Title: Nublet needs a big brother/big sister!
Post by: Ananda on November 25, 2012, 02:55:22 AM
So, er. I'm new. A complete nubcakes to the server, to NWN, and (practically) to the Forgotten Realms in general. I quite literally purchased a copy of NWN2 just because I google-stumbled my way onto this website and went "Ooh! This looks like boatloads of fun!"

The only thing I'm not a nubcakes about is roleplaying. I've done my share of forum-based and MMO-based roleplay for years, so I can at least hold my own when it comes to writing and improvisation. My character creation skills ain't too shabby, neither.

What I'd love to find for my first character is someone willing to let me attach my character to theirs in some way (crazy aunt, naive sibling, spurned lover, crotchety grandparent, clingy childhood friend, good-natured stalker, you know... the usual tropes). I know some about your basic sword-and-sorcery worlds, having a) played various homebrew D&D games with friends, b) begun to read the Icewind Dale series of books, and c) played too much World of Warcraft to really be healthy... and yes, I've played around in the actual NWN game some, although the GOG copy I own tends to crash every hour or so.

If someone has the inkling to help me into the RP community around here, has it somewhere deep in the soft squishy bits of their hearts, and would like to hold my hand while I try to remember that not ALL Drow are like Drizzt Do'Urden, I am super super super eager to make some fun!

My specialty is Dwarven women, because nobody loves them except me.

PS - have I mentioned I'm terrified? Because I'm totally terrified. Also excited. Terrixcited. Excitified. That.

Welcome to your new family, complete with black sheep, annoying kin, and even a few red-headed step children thrown in for flavor. You'll find a great community, plenty of RP, and a server that can be a bit tough on survivability if you wander off solo - all in all a satisfying mix.

And don't be terrified, if you can RP a dwarf woman you'll fit right in.

Welcome to EfU.  What Time Zone would you normally play?  I bet that information would help folks to know if they will be a match!

Oh! Crudcakes, that's a good point.

I live in the time zone UTC/GMT -5 hours - USA east coast. I tend to play late nights (after 10pm) or morning (between 8am and 1pm) depending on my work schedule. This unfortunate soul has to sling coffee at ever-changing hours, but I will be communicative to my partner(s) about when I'm available!

Great to see an eagre new soul ripe for the archive. By which I mean to say, welcome and I hope you stay around!

If you're interested in exploring the very unique situation with magic taking place in the setting, I'm sure we could find an appropriate concept to get you involved right away and on the path to learning the ropes as it were.

Take a look over this post for an idea of what that might entail:

The Convocation of Mystery (//%22http://www.escapefromundeath.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73072%22)

Let me know what you think via PM or a reply to this post.

Hi. Welcome to EFU, hope you enjoy the server.

It can be a teeny weeny bit unforgiving at first, but persistence is key, get in touch with other players and you'll flourish here.

The community are immensely helpful and a great bunch.

Take a goosy gander at the new player guide and try to familiarize yourself with the changes.

Hope you have fun!

Welcome to our little slice of the internet.  I noticed you said:
QuoteI quite literally purchased a copy of NWN2 just because I google-stumbled my way onto this website and went "Ooh! This looks like boatloads of fun!"

Do you have NwN 1 as well?  We are a NwN 1 server not 2.

You will find that most here are more than willing to help ya out.  There is a decent set of Dwarfs running about now, I'm sure you can hook up with them easily enough. (I don't know their timezones though)

Jump on into our IRC channel, you can find a link to it on the "Homepage".  Don't mind the trolls, they are generally harmless.

If you have any questions I'm more than willing to talk ya through them, I'm Sylvyr on IRC, send a PM.

Looking forward to seeing you in action soon.

If you're looking to learn the world safely while learning some of the lore and mechanics of EFU, I could certainly help you out and make use of a large variety of concepts with my current character.

It was heavily political and good aligned if that makes much difference to you, and I can certainly help you with the mechanics of NWN and, more specifically, EFU. Feel free to PM me here or on IRC (VanillaPudding) if you want to discuss it further! :)

Prepare the tongs for loot extraction fellow bandit scum.

The best way to get used to EFU is probably to roll some nice, relaxing characters. Some nice relaxing characters you would not be too terribly upset if they died horribly.

Hey, welcome! You enter our server with it being in alot of flux. It Will perhaps be more chaotic than ususl, harder to learn the ropes perhaps but much more interesting!

I found the Muster to be a good crash course in EFU, if you're up for... potentially dying every day.

Erhamgerd! Thank you, everyone, for such a warm welcome! <3

Firstly let me reinforce my nubbishness by saying that I do, in fact, have NWN and not NWN2 and I'm not entirely sure why I said I have NWN2. Probably because I wasn't paying attention, as per usual.

Second, I'm in the process of finding a way to chat on IRC without shelling out 20 bucks to mIRC for the license, as I'm in a bit of a financial bind at the moment... so I'll be seeing you all in the IRC chat... later. When I find a client I can use without money and without massive confusion. I'm normally not this godawful at internet things, I promise!

Third! Dying! I'm good at dying. I'm also good at letting go of my characters, just in case. In a game where death is at least semi-permanent, I've learned how to just... you know. Love my character, but not be a whiny child if and when they die.

Fourth, I will spend my time waiting for a CD key from GOG wisely -- thanks for the suggestions to read the wiki and the new player guide! I shall prance to both pages and devour their information accordingly.

Y'all rock my socks. <3 Thanks to all you lovely peoples, again!

EFU is hard. There are some things that are going to frustrate you. There are very large penalties and great risks. Stick through it though. Don't feel disheartened from death or if you lose something. Don't give up- just stick through it, grit your teeth and keep going. You will be glad you did.

And here you go! You can connect to irc for free. Just type your nickname in the appropriate field and #efu in the channel. As said though don't give up on deaths! Just keep going. EFU is very rewarding if you stick it out.

Be mindful though that the FR Wiki is 4th Ed now and we are definitely 'non-canon' 3d edition, so some information in the wiki is... well, 'outdated' isn't the right word!

My priestess of Loviatar could use use a male plaything, desperately in love with her, who would patiently endure all the mistreatments she would certainly inflict upon him (because, well, he is desperately in love with her) at the same time she would still care for him in a completely sick kind of relationship. Yes, I will understand if you decline my offer.

Seriously tough, I would be pleased to hook your character in any way you deem appropiate!

e-hey, Ananda!
if you like the "exotic" types, you'll love Biterips (//%22http://www.escapefromundeath.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72147%22) and her stinky allies ^^

if you're into dwarf women, I'd suggest for you to look for Yanamar, who is currently rolling an amazing one.

Welcome to the mess! We are most of the time pretty nice ones, sometimes we get grumpy, oui... but it's all fine.  ^^

If you want to meet up with another new arrival (if GMT evenings coincide with your times) then my character Ruby is ferreting around exploring, and would no doubt welcome some help. I'm new to Mistlocke too, so would be the partially sighted leading the blind!

I will make sure to start off by rolling simple characters that I'm not too badly attached to, then.

And, Granny! I stumbled across your post about Biterips the other day and was definitely fascinated... I'll be contacting you later about the possibility. She reminds me of a character I used to play on a private RP WoW server (funnily enough, the character was named "Granny"). Mucho excitement!

Thanks for the offer, Sleeper!

Jayde Moon - I'll keep that in mind in terms of lore. If it comes to that, I can always ask my fiancee or one of my housemates for help... they're all old-school D&D nerds who definitely loved 3rd edition better than 4th.

Incorrigible and deflaro - thanks for pointing me to Mibbit! I'll be futzing with that shortly. Very kind of you (:

The word you want to use is anachronistic I think?
