The recent raids have been... difficult to understand. I mean, maybe it is the DMs way of deleveling and desupplying all the super high levels on the servers, I've been seeing a drop in magic items, and a drop in exp in exploration areas. Maybe this is another result of high levels.
But I don't think having 30+ hero monsters in one raid, is very fair. Especially if you don't give any exp or rewards.. It feels.. cheap and painful when you get obliterated by "Random Mc'Iownyourface of THE SWAMPS(WHO IS RED)" and there is no way to live other than being high level, or being the lucky one who isn't targeted. I understand a few of those throughout the raid make it interesting, but this is excessive and unfun for me specifically.
This may sound like ranting, but really, I think that the DMs could have made these recent raids more fun, or at least more rewarding if you keep it at the impossible level it is at now.
Hope this won't upset too many people.
If you don't want to the risk it all don't log in, and don't try to participate. Plain and simple, but seriously don't whine when the DMs take time out of their day or night to spice up the server and actually make it challenging.
There was loot and xp.
Well I was exempt from any of the two.
I don't think DMs actively try to delevel people by hard situations. Really it sounds like something that was going got bigger and things got really challengingl. The important thing to remember as a PC is that DMs are doing many things at once to try and bring you the most pleasure.
Spawning NPCs, orchestrating them, collaborating, monitoring, shifting, etc. It can be immensely hard to balance out a situation in such a circumstance, and sometimes it gets burned.
If you didn't get any XP or recompense then I would suggest chatting up the DM who ran the event privately. DMs often ask for anyone who missed out on such things so it could just be an oversight.
Don't like an invasion? Throw your hands in the air and run in circles and flee screaming.

Weren't you just commenting about the exact same topic?

Chill frandos, we should just take a step back and understand that when we die and things get lost, its only pixels in a game.
I took the loot and gave it to the people who did the most and offered small bits to those who didn't. Sorry if you didn't hear it and come get some, but that is generally how it works. If you do all the work you can control what people get...especially if certain people would be surrounded by Lizardfolk if I hadn't went in and killed them all.
/c efuss add whining 10
It is true that you don't really have to fight, but I get your point, and I'm not going to taunt you for it.
I died. Leveled. And died again. All in that fight. I got a blur and a few crits from a PC. It was immense fun. I say, do it again, but with Frost Giants this time! Or..those wonderful Death Cult orcs! They would set the bar high for what is challenging!
Tough invasions can be fun :) I've been avoiding them to try and lower my characters death rate down to one death a day (until recently it averaged 2/day) but they can either be very entertaining or just leave you disappointed. Don't be afraid to run away!
It was tough. I can appreciate a challenge, but just prior to that I killed the ghula and used everything I had, to get nearly nothing out of it. Then I was part of this orc invasion, where Chosen of Gaathmar and Shargaas Disciples were being spawned in waves. Still something I was able to handle, until a red-glowing one appeared, which I and another person managed to just barely kill. Then a few minutes later the very same orc re-appears, says "I'M BACK!" and crits me to death. I wait a few minutes, and am told to respawn. At the end of it, there is no loot or XP, or if there was then I was forgotten or some random asshole stole all the loot as often happens in invasions.
I like a challenge, but it has come off as DM's trying to kill me. They succeeded.
Dms have much easier ways to kill you. Saying these things is counterproductive for you.
Its rather simple, if it is too hard in your honest opinion talk to the dm that ran it privately and voice your concern. Do it in a non-hostile way, and simply try to figure out what was going on. If you have a big invasion and lots of characters of various level skill are playing, you will have casualties if it is meant to be tough.
There is no shame in dropping back from a fight you oocly think is too hard to RP catching your breath. However, when you have high powerful characters fighting with you, expect things to get rough if you are not their equal.

I apologize, I was referring to the Lizardfolk/kobold invasion from last night.
Indeed, I feel that when several players die, it is only fair if the DMs assign these individuals an increased xp value to make up for loosing quest xp with this new delicious DM xp!
Not all challenges are ones you can win. Sometimes to run away, or to hide is the better option.

Why would a DM put up /that/ much effort to set something up, only to drive home a point saying 'you can't win this'?
They do expect you to beat it, and I'm pretty sure if the challenge wasn't meant to be beat, you'd know it off the bat.
Actually not. Some fights aren't meant to be won. Sometimes it is meant to quench the ''If its there, It means it's meant to be won'' It acts a reminder that this isn't one of those games where all challenges are beatable.
Fate can be cruel. This is EFU.
This isn't to mean that there isn't a way out. Their is always one, but this could mean retreating, hiding - Things you don't usually do instinctively. Sometimes its a test of wisdom, to see if your IC wisdom can circumvent the IC/OOC urge to ''try it''
I'm pretty sure a random army of orcs attacking at the Mistlocke bridge out of the blue isn't one of these situations where you're not meant to win. Otherwise there would be no more Mistlocke, and that's a pretty sudden and anticlimactic end.
Nonsense, an immortal NPC would kill them.
Not every thing is meant to be won by you rushing in and thinking you are tough enough to take monsters down. Sometimes it takes a group of people and combined effort, and still be dangerous. That is what it means.
I myself have created things with background, that warrants some level of power. If folks are not strong enough to deal with it, then they are not and have to figure a way around it to get to the point where they can.
Some reasons why that which might seem impossible might not be...
A) You're rushing headlong into a suicidal plunge of melee instead of holding a nearby obvious choke or using other tactics.
B) Your best warriors are busy looting things.
C) Your best warriors are being supply misers and trying to "save" them for PvP.
D) You face a threat that is insurmountable in straight-up combat, but there are other, more creative ways to handle it.
E) A key unlucky critical or two levels your front line, and you get crushed.
E) is always funny!
