This is a serious suggestion, really! What if... when you are on fire from combust, burning away and all that, it were to be made as a sort of elemental shield-minor! Like if you are burning, consumed in this giant inferno of fire that fully envelops you (totally more impressive anyway than a ring that sits at your feet), an enemy takes a small bit of damage when they have to reach through it to hit you. Something like 1-2 fire damage, just a representative sorta thing.
Yes. I want to combust an 'ally' and throw them to the frontlines screaming at them to tackle the enemies, or cover myself in oil and set it on fire to bear hug something and set it aflame too.
Serious suggestion! I'm not just posting this as a joke or anything, though I know it is such an awesome idea that it blows your mind trying to even consider.

I believe failing a reflex save in a Grease spell while combusted, or with a Flame Weapon, additional "bonus" effects should also occur.

Interesting, but not what the spell actually does. The VFX is just a representation of a persistent burning effect. This means that a PC's flesh is still burning, but PC's that strike at this character will not.
