Never mind. Turns out NC spiced it and had to go, without any indication it was a spicing. Forget it all, it was just an unusual shower of necromantic orcs :D
Yes. This was much too hard for a normal quest. It was, however, spice! The DM had to run though - so it did come off as very brutal.
