Title: What is your favorite event on EfU
Post by: Kinslayer988 on March 17, 2013, 09:43:26 AM
There have been many events over the years, DM and PC hosted. I am curious as to what other players and DMs thought as their favorites.

Try to include what it was, who it was hosted by, and why it was your favorite.

I think I liked the death of Mystra event the most.  Not for what happened really, but for the fact that there were so many DMs online, that it wasn't just one group being catered to through the chaos, but many were available for all different things.

Unsurprisingly the end of Sanctuary...

Many DM's over a week or so. Chaos, excitement, truely not knowing what was happening, and just staying alive being the goal... Almost unrepeatable I imagine.

Cornelius Hercule's quest for the Ensemble, devised by Elmo.
We found a relic which bound us all into a single mind and hurled us back to the age of netheril where we got to witness Razul as a child, and fight encroaching demons in our psyche. Even though I died in the midst of it, I found it amazing.

A small PvP encounter I had within the old Docks of the Dominion, where a DM possessed some of the local NPCs and we had a great time roleplaying paranoia towards the Conclave, Order and the unknown in general.

That is just to mention something off the top of my head, but sometimes events that transpire in EfU can just manage to be that greatly immersive, entertaining and outright stylish.

Edit: Sorry Eq. I shouldn't forget to mention.

BRIDGE FIGHT

My favorite event....though there are many right up with there for me....goes back to original EFU.

The Golden Doubloons squaring off against the Tigereyes in lower, getting a bit rowdy. I threw a choking powder at them, and suddenly it aggroed tons of NPC's from all over Lower randomly running around attacking everyone.

So I just started yelling about it being a riot...and within a few minutes some DM's had taken the reigns and made it into a REAL riot, not just one caused by an NPC factional quirk. It was bloody, it was brutal, it was tasteful, and it was awesome.

I doubt Howland even remembers it because it was such a simple thing, but...

The Mithralsouls, being barraged with goblin arrows from a cliff, breaking through a barricade at the bottom they charged up the ramp at the goblins. One of the goblins at the top of the ramp, [Throws himself off the cliff in despair!](and vanished). I lmao for the rest of the quest.

#1. Song of Orpheus event - Giant Dungeon Crawl of Doom.

I entered the event playing a fat, corrupt Watch faction PC that was secretly devoted to Cyric with the intention of killing everyone in the crypt and stealing all the treasure.

After a manic session of PvP, I nearly succeeded, and was brutally crushed by a righteous Tormite played by Wiggyboy.

It never felt better to fail.

#2 The Rise of Sewertown.

This was a multi day event that was absolutely chaotic, and full of great memories. Another great time to fail.

Dueling Remery Crallet on top of the Dominion with my Stygian

Capturing the governor Sharboneth and / or leading a raid to capture the Count's uncle in Old Port itself.

The sequence of events at the end of the Conclave which lead to capturing all the necessary ingredients for Razul's ritual (including some that could have destroyed the entire enclave if a PC so chose to) and watching the ritual first hand

Either the failed march into H'balas tower which ended up releasing her, the Nightriser invasions when the Conclave moved away from Nebezzdos (including the mini-events where we recovered pieces of Sanq's missing memories), or the event where Marcail sacrificed herself to give life to what would in time grow into a fearsome treant.

Also my very first event on EFU: searching for the lost eggs of the Fey Dragon for the elven flower group whose name I cannot recall. A seriously great way for a new player and an elven paladin of Bahamut to get involved in the server right off the bat.

The last days of the Dominion, with Camille de Ferbourg struggling to maintain a semblance of law and order as everything was falling apart. Managing to rally at least some of the Loyalist Militia to stay and defend after the Stygians left. And helping to break the siege of Blackhearth. Also, Trenada's attack on H'bala's tower, recovering pieces of Lotheri Sanq's memories (oh the irony)... this was a fantastic time.

Of player run events, very nearly anything done by Marionette in her puppet plays, participating in Abigail's theatre practices (Rook was possibly the world's worst actress), many a duel in the Wardens and the supply runs to create the new dwarfhold in the mountains.

And last but not least, arriving in Mistlocke with my wide-eyed fire sorceress Ashley, with great plans for burning swathes of undead to ash and creating an era of FIRE, and then promptly winning the Lottery and learning... [edited]...Shortest career ever, but with a high concentration of awesome!

So many great ones it's hard to name them all, but ones that stick out in my personal memory...

The quest Derfo ran for me to confront my arch nemesis villain NPC ontop of his waterfall lair in order to earn knight, still remains one of my favourite epic moments.

Concluding a plot of many months with a small event in which my wizard at last accomplished his goal and Escaped from Undeath.

And definitely the Marcail Tree event with 25 odd pc's holding that spur of rock in the Wyldwater against everything H'bala had to throw at us.

Black Pins assult on Old Port to try and save our leader, only to be captured and killed by the Duke.

The Marcail event.  (come on you had to know it.  I *was* Marcail after all.  :P )  Seeing all the faction get together if only for a brief time and work together.  There were Aberdeen, Cameryn, Stargazer, Stewards and of course Watchers there.  (I don't remember any conclave oddly)

Every interaction with Khavenko as Claxton ever. Especially the fall. Caerseil's moments discussing life and such things with Herostrat. Critting Caddies' Umberlant in EFU:A for 72 damage in round two and ending that story (before getting horribly subdued seconds later).

I loved the Marcail event with Caerseil and the rest of team nature. And who could possibly forget the charge on H'bala and the end of EFU:A?

Claxton's quest for redemption with AKMatt was really just phenomenal, though. I haven't had a lot of experiences on EFU, but this one took the cake. It was the first DM run quest that was ever geared specifically towards one of my characters, and I very much enjoyed how it helped her story progress forward while simultaneously feeling incredibly special and personal to the character. There was a great sense of personal accomplishment, both IC and for myself OOCly.

I am an insanely emotional person who puts a little too much of themselves into fiction, be it music, movie or videogame.

My favorite moments of EfU all share a common theme- they rouse emotion, usually a bittersweet melancholy that is hard to bear, but without which there could be no joy.

0) Doing the "Seer" quest for the first time. The music that was chosen once you enter the QA was perfect. Silence... silence and dread.
1) Escaping the Underdark through The Way, when EfU 1 ended. The despair in the air was palpable... everyone huddle together, ascending into an uncertain, grim future, death behind them.
2) The first days of EfU:A - a brave new world, ripe with danger and the unknown.
2.1) Hearing the Arrival at the Docks music in the gates of Nebezzdos. How appropriate.
3) The last days of EfU:A - all huddled together. The final, solemn march, past hundreds of Nightrisers, into the Mist. Beaten and betrayed...
4) The first time I saw EfU:M, wandering through the Mist into an uncertain future.
5) Every moment I spent with the Scholar- curse my folly that led to it being cut short. I am still saddened by that.
6) Exploring the Forgotten Forest
7) Basically every Mist vision.
8 ) Every area where Deionarra's theme is used

EfU is so strange... a place of despair and of impossible odds. The End is coming and there's no hope, yet everyone keeps on going. Everyone is boldly either speeding its arrival or working against. Yet it ever looms, and nothing anyone can do can possibly halt it.

This great calamity, this dark future, looming over Mistlocke, interwoven into most NPCs and areas shadowing everything in its gloom. That hopelessness and despair, these impossible odds, the knowledge of certain death- and the human will to fight anyway, even against such odds - that is what makes for so many inspiring, unforgettable EfU moments.

I wonder, how will it all end?

It almost bothers me how much thought they put into EfU. Every NPC, every prophecy, every text of atmosphere - and every piece of music from the Mort override. They were all placed with such a horrible precision, with such deliberation that it makes me wish all commercial games had that much thought put into them. There's very, very few games as atmospherically rich and dense as EfU at its best. And I've played far too many...

Listening to Elder Otoroo retell the tale of 'How the Tiger Lost His Balls'. Sat in the Starwood among wonderful friends and amazing characters. It was a time that will always remain magical. It felt better than any Loot reward, it felt alive and the starwood felt silent with only Otoroo's words. A hilarious and insightful story. It really defined an entire era of playing EFU for me.

And this - Enter the QA, you sons of bitches (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg116/ace65_photo/umad.jpg). Exploring the Underdark with some wonderful companions, and sadly never returning. Words cannot describe.

Heading into the Underdark with the Pissing Crone gang and making contact with the Nancies, before the gangs really settled into Lower proper-like.

Rolling with the crew of the Leviathan's Lament and a trio of Stygians (plus one Sahuagin) on the high seas and battling with a Kraken (or its tentacles, really.)

Of course, the string of events leading up to the release of the Maiden, and the march on the Tower. Made me very glad I had stuck with my stargazer despite some initial misgivings.

Wish I knew to take more screenshots of all of that!

The beginning. I have always been able to romanticize the stories told in the underdark better then anything that came after it. The events all come together now, and I was never a huge part of any of those stories, but as witness, they made every minute worth it.

Also both transitions, from Efu to Efua and Efua to Efum have been incredible. I'm glad I got to see them both. Exploring a new world is certainly one of my favorite parts of the server.

The end of Sanctuary and the release of H'bala are up on top.

Good times, good times.

Playing one of the rebels in the end days of Sanctuary, hiding out in an abandoned Pissing Crone with everything in the server out to kill you. Really epitomized the hopelessness and the bitterness, and made me forget I was playing a game at all.

One time one of Howland's friends from another server rolled up a new druid. I just happened to be the first PC to make friends with that character, not knowing what kind of a ride I was in for. Howland, I have learned, is very good at running small encounters and this was my first chance to experience it.

We had quite a good time that dark. Our adventures began with a trip around Sanctuary, which ended in Lower near the old docks. From there we went through the tunnels to the Dark Lake, where I got my first introduction to the sea monster that lived there. We wound up somewhere I had never been before, where we got chased back toward Sanctuary by a huge umber hulk and some ettercaps. On the way back to safety, we encountered a goblin who had been experimented on by (as I later learned) Phantiades; the poor soul had been made intelligent and was living out a life of intellectual misery. After that, we ran into a really nasty red cap and some other Unseelie, by which time my PC was pretty much in love with the other character and I was pretty much in love with the server.

Second place would have to go to a rivalry one of my characters had with DeputyCool, who ended up killing my PC. Man, I was so effing pissed off when I lost that character. I actually ragequit the server over it, and probably earned at least an honorable mention for myself on the "players who might give you a miserable time" list. Looking back, though, I wouldn't have been so upset if I hadn't already been having the thrill of my gaming life right up to that point.

That druid, by the way, ended up as one of the great DMs of this server.

Entering Sewer Town for the first time, following the rascal employée and rebelling would-be-assassin Montgomery Ubel Criler the III as my Councilor Andrik Krown. Another huge is a NPC watchman coming over to ask how it goes, interrupting a discussion with lieutenant Lothor. This was after Rodon Brinson had gotten demoted down to private. It was just a small thing that meant so much, both IC and OOCly.

* Being given a player-made map of the UD Sand Caverns by the mysterious PC elf Sorell Greyn (Germain), which took my first character 18 months to explore, and totally drew me in...

* Exploring the strange passageways of the Dunwarren Machine with Somniis Szul...with a little kick from Nahalopet Ymph; not realising Sanctuary was on its last legs.

* Watching Wiggyboy turn Dan's Paladin PC (Geraint Redpath) inside out during a Temple of Hoar extravanganza.

* Last Days of Sanctuary.

* Being immersed in the many events that lead to the End of EFU:A, for sure. Watching the Aftermath on the server... Mindblowing... Reading Ivan the Faithless's (SC) poem recording the event.

After having been crushed a few times by our archrival Genteel Jim, the Stygians were in bad shape and bad spirits. Master Tau Masemba makes note of this and swaggers up, saying that he'll join us for a bit in whatever we do. So of course we decide to do orcs. What followed was a low-supply high octane quest of unforgettable fun. One of those moments where the game world comes completely alive.

Seeing the assembly and evolution of the Black Parish, spearheaded by Bishop Coolidge and Morthel Seregeth. After the end of the Parish, watching Margulis Baldassare assemble the pieces for his undead creation, turning Bishop Coolidge's corpse into a single-minded animatronic zombie..."Must exterminate!"

A huge fight where the Stygians brought fire and steel to the wildlings and Stargazers, only to be soundly defeated. Even though I was on he losing side, I immensely enjoyed that pvp and still remember it to this day.

Bridge fight; never forget. No more words need said.

Fighting a low-lvl halfling Stygian as a flayer of the rat tribe. We both couldn't have been more than lvl 5, but we fought for ages.

Comital War. Playing a mostly useless bard who ran around healing others and being sorrowful, only to be stomped by ruby horseman. So many cool events in this war.

Blood Hovel. All of the awesome stuff that Germain would do in there. Visions, champions, sacrifices. So many memorable happenings in there with the Blood Legion. One that comes to mind was allowing the Elven Warband into our temple, and greeting them with ritual bloodshed.

And many more...

Having the gimpiest rogue vs rogue battle in history as Baklak Trollspike against ShadowCharlatan's Coppercoat in the sewers.  We were using the ambient rats, acid flasks, scrolls of ray of frost, and just about every other piece of pathetic weaponry you can imagine.

Even after Trollspiking him in the end, I still had to just flee from humiliation.

I really enjoyed the Transcendent Conclave events, especially the first major one I was a part of, when the floating enclave left Nebezzdos to destroy H'bala at her very power base.

Aside from that, I found myself really immersed in a fey event that was run by Mort in the later part of Amadeus's life. The confusion of events, being teleported away and separated into groups of 2-3, fighting for your life then when you meet each other again being unsure if your former party members are even the real ones, all culminating in a very intense and utterly sadistic game of musical chairs... marvelous.

There are just so many other smaller events as well, some of a more personal nature too. Truly EFU is full of wonders, which each of us makes possible with our creativity and imagination. Keep rockin' on, as we say. I am certain there'll be a new experience to add here in the future.

Omigod, I forgot this one. A truly amazing moment during which Camille de Ferbourg got captured and used as sacrifice material in a ritual in the Temple of Targus, during which an aspiring palemaster tried to animate a dead PC militiaman as his undead servant. Something went badly wrong and the reanimated militiaman went totally batshit, whacked the palemaster down and chased his accomplice all over the Wardens District. We could tell this from DM shouts about an undead Militiaman rampaging around out there demanding tolls from everyone it met and screaming about Docksmen traitors.

Camille, still lying helpless in a pool of her own blood, croaked, "Is... this sort of thing... a normal risk... in this kind of ritual?"

And the palemaster, who was similarly lying flattened, replied, "There is... unavoidably... always a certain amount... of unpredictability involved."

I laughed so hard. Greatest blood sacrifice ritual ever. Camille somehow survived, but honestly, on top of that experience I really wouldn't have minded it if she had been killed. It would have been an epic way to go.

Being a main part in a Bloodmage Ritual, then being turned to stone on random chance, changing back to fight beholders, driders, umber hulks and other beasts just to get out of the underdark with the Shrouded Legion.

That and most of the other running around and finding awesome trouble, like undead petrodyactals and a couple quests were fighting the original threat of the quest is later over shadowed by H'balan monsters.

As well, being mowed down by Coral Raiders in the docks in a last defence to save the lives of children, and just lasting long enough to stop orcs from over running the farmlands.

The event sternhund ran for us recently where we were all stargazers and learning the stories of the flayers, I loved the new mechanic he was working on and the story.

Marching against H'bala and freeing her, never have I been more proud to get killed.

Everything SC did with the diluvians, from the mythkeepers to the veneroida. Spectacular, immerse, awesome.

A quest I did on anotropos, and his faithful bard friend who joined him in everything he did, we entered the sunken enclave to find out the secerts behind a portrait one pc had, and from that we ended up going into a painting and having an epic journey to free its inhabitant and find our way out, from poisoned fountains to insane masterminds. It was a wild ride.

A targus turny ran by Mort where my paladin fought a angel to free it and the entire time they were exchanging witty remarks and their sorrows for having to fight, was a great encounter.

A event ran by Jayde moon where we went to the isle of blight, faught a lich, and barely got out alive.

A Sternhund event, where we killed a lich with the power of love.

Dueling Agneo in the conclave, while not an event was one of my more enjoyable moments, as we all gathered in the dueling chambers and were fighting each other to kill time and practice for future combat.

A small a event, my first one ever was on my paladin anotropos in the old jergalite quest, when LPFF spiced us with some jergalite scribes and it was very cenimatic, and I got my first piece of dm loot ever a "Lesser, cape of light" which was by far my most valued item even if it wasn't the strongest, but it was the brightest.

Big Orc Man had a spiced run of gnolls.. where there was atleast 40 netherese towers infront of our party of 6, and they were all looking arond for a way past and they were in this staggered formation, so I just told them "Were running it" and it was awesome, we just sprinted through and it felt like D-day lighting shooting everywhere and we were just trying to haul through it. And when we got to the other side, we found a secret door we totally just ignored that would have bypassed all of it. Lol it was great.

Countless other times, that I could rant and rave about how great they were, my time on efu has been pretty solid and I enjoy every time I get on.

Dms +1
Player base +1
Efu +1

Great times on this server and many more to be had I am sure.
