The New Delving: An Equal Opportunity Employer
The BeginningThe Delving, a stout, fortified stronghold of dwarf and gnome kin and cousins. At least until one fateful night on Marponeth 24th, 1382 DR. On this night, a force of trolls lead by a duo of immensely powerful giants, sometimes referred to as the Noor, sieged the Delving. The FallThe Delving might have stood firm, fortified in their mountain home against attack, if not for the staggered betrayals of two once trusted members of the Delving. Two powerful relics, stolen and delivered to the Noor by Morduin Kazark began their downfall. Then on the night of Marponeth 24th during the siege, again they were betrayed by Morduin Kazark and his new ally within the Delving; Efrain Aberforth Widdlytink, a shifty, duplicitous Caermyn Master Merchant. Together they kidnapped the thane for the giants during the fighting, forcing a surrender or risk the death of their beloved and rightful ruler of the Delving, thane Thronûr Longbeard. The AftermathThe Delving today has become a cruel mockery of what it once was. Now ruled over by the two giants, Zohlrunde and Hrigonna, aided by a small force of trolls. The giants are said to be mysterious, powerful creatures, sometimes referred to as "the Noor" or "of the Noor".
The giants now seek to hear oaths of fealty from those who wish to serve the Delving's new kings. The giant-kings of the Delving eagerly accept the fealty of any race or person so long as they kneel, and serve loyally. The massive combined wealth of what was once the dwarven Delving's treasure, and the already impressive treasures of the giant-kings is a powerful lure to the power hungry and greedy. The rumored veins of ore around the Delving not-withstanding. It is difficult to predict what shape this new Delving will take, as it's numbers begin to fill with an eclectic menagerie of races.
OOC Information:- Alignment: Any Evil*
- Other alignments may be possible if you wish to play a concept that only serves the Delving out of fear for the Thane, or someone who seeks the liberation of the Delving through deceit in swearing a false oath of fealty to the giant-kings.
- Race: Any*
- Non-human and monster concepts are strongly encouraged to represent the new Delving. You can of course play human, but I would ideally like to see as many non-humans of various races as possible.
- Class: Any*
- Some class combinations may only be permissible as a forced servant to the giant-kings.
- Special: Must swear loyalty and fealty to the giant-kings Zohlrunde and Hrigonna.
- Note: The faction is still effectively an association. Just one with a special requirement of swearing loyalty to the new giant-kings of the Delving. There is no application required (except for possibly special concepts, in which case ask a DM).
- Help: If you're interested in playing a character that takes the oath of fealty to the giant-kings, come by #NewDelving in IRC for any questions you might have.
OOC Summation
Effectively the Delving has been forcefully conquered by the giants Zohlrunde and Hrigonna. Those few dwarves and gnomes who survived the assault are now faced with a terrible choice while their thane, Thronûr Longbeard, is held captive. Either swear fealty to the giant-kings or flee in search of a new dwarf-home, begin a new line of kings and abandon their rightful ruler to the imprisonment of this new "Delving".
Chamberlain Efrain Aberforth Widdlytink, has declared the Delving a sanctuary for the outcast, reaching out to those who have had difficulty finding even a small measure of tolerance from the xenophobic villagers and their various vying human factions. In explanation of his bizarre recruiting practices he is often heard saying: "I have a soft spot for the underdog.".Sample Concepts
- Half-Orc(Outcast): Seen as a scar, a reminder of war with orc kind by humans, and weak spawn by orcs, you are welcomed by neither. At best, you have been "quietly put up with" by neighbors and locals. Now as an adult you have gone in search of this new "Delving" that welcomes any race as long as they swear loyalty to the giant kings.
- Halfling(Orphan): Raised under unusual circumstances away from your own people, you do not share the same values and beliefs as them. As a result, you have struggled to find your way in life, living from one adventure to the next, you have found a strange "family" of allies in the Delving that somehow seems to suit you.
- Dwarf (Freedom Fighter): The deep stubbornness and strength of the Stout Folk runs strong. You and perhaps others, have flatly refused to submit to the giant kings rule. If the thane must die for freedom, so be it. Perhaps as spy who has made a false oath of loyalty to the giant kings to overthrow their rule, or scout seeking a new home for the still free dwarves to wage their war against the Delving to reclaim their home. Maybe a noble dwarf who makes a claim to the beginning of a new line of thanes.
- Rock Gnome (The Undecided): In the wake of the betrayal by the now highly influential rock gnome, Chamberlain Efrain Widdlytink, it is still unclear where the loyalties of the surviving rock gnomes lay. It is not their thane that is held prisoner, but perhaps some have developed a closer kinship with their dwarven cousins over these last months. On the other hand, this is also a great opportunity for the often merely "tolerated" rock gnomes of the Delving to rise to greater prominence, wealth, and power...
- Dwarf (Giant Loyalist): Perhaps not willingly, but given the circumstances you can't help but serve the giant rulers. Out of fear and respect for the thane, you serve. Such a life might make for a very grim, interesting character outlook. Perhaps Seeking to aid Magnus Twin-Axe in stomping out any resistance movements that might endanger the thane's life.
- Monsters(Any): The combined might and wealth of the Delving has created a powerful lure and unifying force to the normally greedy, selfish monsters of many types. Maybe you are simply looking for a powerful clan to be part of for protection, or to use the Delving to establish your own power, or maybe you have even bigger desires in joining the Delving. Most monster concepts would likely be able to join the Delving as long as they swear loyalty to the giant kings.
Finally worth playing a dwarf now...
Sounds simply swell.
Updated the OP with some missing information on race expectations and other misc information.
Giant Kings? Check.
Smeagle Gnome? Check.
Budding evil outpost? Check.
#Yoloswag.
All this needs now is RwG to OP this change
So cool.
I support this.
As we've lost many players in the transition of power within the Delving, I'd like to again draw some attention to this budding faction. Based on the very big change that has taken place, I'd really like to see some new faces representing the Delving's more eclectic selection of races!
There is nearly limitless potential within the Delving at the moment. The shape the faction will take will be heavily influenced by what kind of PC's join and what kind of initiatives they back or oppose as the Delving moves forward.
Please stop by #NewDelving (just a channel for recruiting chats, #Delving is still the official channel) if you are interested in joining the giant ruled Delving, have any questions, or would like some help working on a concept for the faction!
NOTE: Updated the OOC Summation and added some sample concepts.
cheaper tolls, merry trolls. 10/10 ironside seal of approval.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a monster lover either! Just someone who might not fit in around the normal hubs, or someone hungry for a piece of that power/wealth.
Just as long as you realize you'll be around monsters fairly often! Not getting along with your monster roommates is perfectly fine! <3

Exactly, my bad!
There's also the opportunity to join the amazing "Kozh Elite Squad", the Noor Giant's Military, LE tendencies, formed by monsters, humans, slaves and whoever joins willingly, lead by a Hobgoblin.

With the new SUPER WITHERING plot to hit the isle, the Delving may be taking on an even more vital role as the scummy side of the island's defenders in the coming days.
We have a few PC's in the faction but we could definitely use some more PC's to flesh out the Delving and bring it to life as things get ready to heat up with the war against H'bala.
I'd like to clarify some of what you can expect from getting involved in the Delving for those who haven't had a chance to see what it's like.
The "faction" is quite loosely constructed. It's a melting pot of scoundrels, monsters and thugs each with their own motivation; they are only barely unified by the collective power and threat of the giants and the promise of personal gain that comes with being a subject of the Noor kings.
You are welcome to operate your own faction out of the Delving, to use the Delving as little more than a watering hole for scum, or to just treat it as a physical home and little more. Just try to remember you are still expected to have some base loyalty to the current rulership or risk consequences.
Also PLEASE don't feel that you need to play a monster to be part of the Delving. There is a quite diverse selection of races that make up their home in the Delving. I would most like to see the demi-humans represented with the odd monstrous PC. At it's core, the current Delving is styled as little more than a collective of outcasts, scumbags and thugs who have banded together against their perceived enemies of the island.
So get concepting, hit up #Delving and start coloring this place in your own way! :D
P.S. Because the faction doesn't demand any kind of uniform or public displays of servitude (except specific events ect) it is quite easy to be a secretive supporter of the Delving. There's more PC's involved here than you may realize =)
