So after owning these songs for many weeks and five levels, I have come to the tentative conclusion they are bugged. Three separate players have confirmed they do nothing different from the default curse song, except prevent one from also singing a non-curse song.
If these songs actually do have special effects, but they are so obscure that experimentation in different places on different PCs does not work, perhaps some sort of in game clue is in order?
Are you using bard song or curse song to activate them? Only the former will utilize the custom curse song.
Ahh, I was using curse song to activate a custom curse song because that seemed the obvious thing to do. This is a very common misconception, several bards have refused my curse songs since they dont have the curse song feat etc etc. When you sing the two curse songs I have with normal bard song, there is no "playing song" notes coming out from the top of your head graphic, so I assumed nothing was happening. Ill now test them with the normal song.
