Title: Ranger Duel Wield In Chain
Post by: Gippy on February 01, 2009, 04:40:53 AM
At level six give rangers the ability to duel wield while wearing chain. This would be a boon to pure rangers and probably not useful to any multiclasses. Reason? Duel wielding is sweet and rangers are hardly overpowering in combat as it is.

Not possible. Hardcoded.

Assuming you mean the Dual-wield feat and how it is hardcoded to work only with light or no armor. But it would be possible to give Ambidexterity and Two-weapon fighting feats through skins/scripts/whatever at specific level, right?

(got no opinion on validity of suggestion itself)

Yes.

But that would apply it globally. I don't think this is argument enough to allow it for full plate wearing rangers.

Surely with all the fancy things you folks can do, you can make it only applicable to Chain shirts! You're pretty clever like that.

No, actually, we can't.

If you want 4AC while dual-wielding, Mage Armor is the way forward. Surprisingly, a lot of wizards don't seem to use it much on leather-wearers. They should. It is brilliant.

Mage armor only alllows a maximum of 4 ac.

so if your leathers have 2 AC, you only get 2 ac from mage armor.

By that he means; Yes we can, it's just opening up the gates to exploit city, though.

@Cruzel:
I know, it's just a tip, and pushing your leathers to 4AC total is handy. I'd love my ranger to be able to dual wield in his chainshirt though.

I assume that Snoteye means "We can make it work for a CLASS of armor (medium), not a type (chainshirt)". I mean, the new barb dmg immunity is custom and disabled in Heavy armor.
Then, on the other hand, why not? It would make melee rangers better against non-FE stuff without multiclassing.

EDIT:
That was a silly idea. Even one level up ranger would let you use a chainshirt with +feat Ambidexterity and Two Weapon Fighting.

Yeah, and multiclass rangers could use that chain which is the complete opposite to what the creator of this thread had in mind with his original suggestion.

You can get the armor's appearance and check for specific ones (chain shirts have 2 or something)?

Ranger loot ambidex./2h fighting chain for PCs with characters that are only pure rangers (as in an OOC description, no UMD allowed, etc)?  Sounds like the only way.

You guys are all forgetting something of great importance:

For this to have any bearing on anything, one has to be physically able to reach level six with a ranger. *cracks up* Ridiculous!

It's not any harder than any other class, I assure you. :D

Cruzel sort of mistated the fact. Yes, you only get +2 from Mage Armor, but you also get +2 from the armor...

So it's +2+2=+4 or +4 naked. You're not getting your bang for your buck, but it's still a bang (only one AC less than Barkskin, mind you!)

It stacks with Bark-skin.
