It just seems to me that there are so many folks who dip into that 1 bard level simply for custom bard songs that it is just to power build their pc. Making bard song books only able to be activated by a lvl 3 bard would lend to a little more rarity and appreciation for the ability rather than the single level dip every barb/bard fighter/bard is.
Thoughts?
I agree. I think the flexibility and perks of the custom bard songs are the sort of advantages that those who invest heavily in the class should reap.
Pure Bard only.

Aren't most bard powerbuilds mostly bard levels at any rate?
lol this thread. The songs, customer or default, already scale with bard levels at 3, 5, and 8 depending upon the song. In a raw mechanical term excluding any RP reasonings, they pick Bards for the utility, not their songs. Just like people pick Rogue often for multiclasses, or ranger even.
Yea, as VP said. Most people who multiclass bards for song take 3 levels at /least/. If anyone has less then it isn't for the songs most likely. I know I'm only going to be taking 2 levels of bard, and I am mechanically weaker because of it. With such low bard level and only 1-2 uses a day the song is crap but thematically appropriate, and I'd be much stronger if pure classed using War Champion or Tribal Guardian's 3/day self and group buffs.
You can take extra music with a bard level on 1,3,6 or 9
If you are non evil and use one of the disabling curse songs it can be extremely devastating. That's 2 feats, but it is really strong.
That said, I think they are fine as they are.

Two feats is a gigantic investment as a lot of characters only receive four or five(human bonus)feats total. I can confirm that taking just 3~4 bard levels is the ideal target in most cases.
On the subject of alignment. Not sure why that was mentioned. Only certain songs have alignment restrictions. Curse Song is a song type that encompasses all harmful songs. Alignment values are only assigned to specific songs. E.g a song that curses good aligned characters exclusively and severely might be considered evil only.
Bards still need some pure perks to them tbh, I'd rather see more pure overpowered bards than these scummy bard/fighters
Not that I don't enjoy watching all these noblemen sing.
Bard fighter
Not Bard-Barbarian
Do you even sing the song of Tempos, weak-kneed Ten-Towner?
