Title: How do you want storage to work in EFU?
Post by: Howlando on September 03, 2015, 10:01:27 PM
Prompted by a private suggestion, I'd like to ask the EFU community how you would like persistent storage to work in EFU. I'd be happy to consider changes.

I kind of liked KoP's idea with respect to House of Trade persistent storage:
Quote16:57 < KnightOfPentacles> You should have to make an appraise check
16:58 < KnightOfPentacles> to get storage of any kind lol
Always nice to see social skill checks IG!

IMO, inheriting storage has always been one of the most exciting and awesome things about joining a faction. Pick a bunk, pick through all the cool stuff and memories of  past PC(s)

Any storage should never disappear with a PC IMO, but I think you'd need to Flag items as "DM Plot" so that they couldn't be put into any kind of persistent storage without exception granted by DM. Just to keep everything interesting and all.  But I wouldn't be opposed to rentable rooms having a small 5-10 item box or something. But, something in place to prevent "rental sniping" would be a plus. Someone not logging in for a few days from RL stuff and not being able to pay the rent OOCly only to have someone else swipe their stuff when they come back a day later... would be kind of lame.

I don't think server storage is /that/ intensive performance-wise that it'd be a huge issue to make it more common.  But I do think it should be expensive enough that not every single PC can get storage options. People should want to cause some drama over who has the better rooms, and so on.

Maybe adding to the bank in House of Trade a "private safe" you can rent on a weekly basis, and place there an x number of items? (I guess 5 is a good number). Preferably not a certain number of chests, but every PC with a bank account can have this option for one safe. Of course, I have no idea if something like this can be scripted.

This is already a thing. Talk to a civil servant of to rent space.

What I meant was talking with the Bank NPC lady and add that option there.
Well aware of the renting of the spaces there. From what I understand, this is the issue here.

I think it makes a great deal of sense for persistent storage to exist as a business in Sanctuary. Let people rent storage spaces that will hold  5, 15, 25, or 50 items for a fee.

Let each player use a shovel to dig one (just one!) hole, which will let them persistently store a single item,( or gold, if it's possible.)

Implement bank notes, which can be redeemed by people other than the account owner for gold

Should be faction exclusive or dedicated merchants only.
