OH, well, I have been thinking of it for a while, and I guess I have delayed it enough. It is about time to tell you a bit of Madama Milagres.
... for it I am telling you what are those RrRrRRrs:
They are the better way I found to give a representation of her thrilling of the phoneme when speaking words with Rs. It's exaggerated on purpose. It might be a real accent, something created by her or an anomaly of her voice.
Putting aside the inferences, the idea came from watching a movie "Like Water for Chocolate" (//%22http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9CLWa40wdM%22) where a minor character named Paquita Lobo used to speak like that. I enjoyed the special touch of her speaking and concepted Matilda's accent around it.
No, I am not changing it so far. I got a lot of criticism upon it, but I am sure it is due to the oddity it represents and in time everyone will get used to the way I got to represent it. Matilda is a character that I enjoy a lot and she has grown too strong as an idea for me to go and change anything. I hope for everyone to see this choice as part of her personality and understand the preference.
I strongly suggest you to watch the movie, as the story is pretty amazing. For those not going that far, I would also suggest to jump the scenes and find Paquita (I didn't find any youtube video where she would be tagged, so there is little way of making it easier), so to understand from where Matilda's speech came from.
