Title: Perry Melody - Bard of the People
Post by: AirCanada on January 07, 2016, 10:40:37 PM
Well, Perry's dead. The circumstances were less-than-pleasurable, but such is life in EFU I suppose.

I created Perry with a loose vision as my first PC back after a long time away from EFU - and saw it mold into something pretty awesome. I wanted to create a PC that was legitimately happy, good, and selfless to try to break through the overwhelming cynicism of both the IC and OOC population! It was tough at times since almost no one he met IC liked to smile with him, but it was fun to try to be the solo shining light in a sea of darkness!

I focused very heavily on non-combat skills and didn't really quest very often with him. His perform skill was flirting with 40, with Lore, Persuade and Appraise in the 20s. I tried to make multiple facets for Perry to share his happiness - writing songs/ballads about beauty and hope, preaching about it everywhere he went, smiling 24/7, etc. It was a lot of work, but I did enjoy it quite a bit.

I spent just about his entire PC life working towards a single goal, with a few smaller goals, and while it's likely that it would never have actually been successful for multitude of reasons, it was still something really fun to try to chase after. I guess it's not spoilerish now - Perry was going to try to buy back all of Sanctuary's children from Mutulakt. Who knows what would have happened! He had -many- things going on IC just before he died, so sadly he won't be around to see all of that through.

Thanks to those who got involved, especially in the last week or so - lots of fun! Wish we could have seen it through a bit further.

I tracked every single transaction for all of Perry's businesses since day 1 - here is a summary of his financials as of his death:

I'm not usually one for screenies either, but here is one I took long ago for just this reason:

A delightful (and a bit naive) merchant, a  hero whose tale's was cut short. A great player.

It's a shame to see Mr. Melody to go like that.

Take a breath, AirCanada. And return to us when ready.

Damn it!  I had planned to swindle you of all that coin! Such plans!  I really enjoyed Perry, especially the last week or so!

Oh dear :( Amber really liked Perry. And had just become one of his pawns in accumulating even more gold for him. Ah well.

A very good character! Looking forward to seeing the next one.

I admire your dedication to accounting for the purposes of in-character merchantry. Looks like quite the enterprise but I do expect the borrowing services would have kept the downward trend, due to the high character morbidity rate and general untrustworthiness of borrowers. To capitalise on such things, you need to claim insurance or some other benefit from the borrower, I'd say.

Really liked Perry. Would have loved to see him get the kids bought free :( But sadly, things don't always go as we want.
Looking forward to the next one!

Great character who helped flesh out Sanctuary. Always a ready smile but also happy to turn the screws to collect his debts. Sad to see him go but 800 coin richer because of it :-)
