Title: 2 Step Crash
Post by: Ladocicea on August 17, 2013, 07:10:13 AM
Client crashes if I take 2 steps in the OOC welcome area, in any direction. Even if I take 1 step forward, then 1 step back to my original starting position.

Otherwise standing still enables me to enjoy the OOC welcome area indefinitely.

Do you have any overrides, haks, changes / what not, when was the last time you played nwn and it has not crashed?

Need some sort of details that could give any leads. Have you updated anything recently on your PC?

Sorry, right. I just this second installed the haks and it's all gravy. Although that's probably a different type of bug if the haks make the game unplayable as it is my understanding that you guys intended to keep it playable with only loss of content.

Yes, but we haven't had wide spread cases of folks crashing about without them, yet atleast. It's hard to determine when it's not widely happening.

I seem to have stability issues with areas with hak content in them. I managed to make it to Sanctuary but I end up crashing once every ten minutes or every few seconds depending on where I am. It's a shame but it's basically unplayable. :(

Is there anything I can do to improve stability? (already running on minimum settings)

Sanctuary does not have hak content. It's something else that is causing your issues. Do you have shiny water turned on perhaps?

None of the common areas have hak content in them. It is something else, indeed.

Turn off shiny water, run NWN via administrator mode. Do you crash when loading up single player also? Maybe quickly make a mod with an area with the steamworks tileset and see if that causes these problems single player?

Ah, right, sorry, I think I'm just incapable of differentiating between new patch content/clever use of placeables and hak content. Shiny water is off (don't think my laptop is even capable of running the game with it on). And to complicate matters a little further I don't seem to be able to make modules (they are openable in the toolset but don't appear as files in my /modules folder or in the modules list in the nwn client). Annoying and peculiar. Changed to run as administrator though: I'll just try playing a little today and see what happens.

For future reference if anyone else experiences this problem, I've found a highly impractical, annoying and nonsensical solution for it: It seems like you gain client stability after you make a few area transitions, so you might crash 5 times walking toward one when you initially log in but when you get there you can go backwards and forwards through it until you're stable enough to play.

Madness.
