O[/tface]ld forgotten tales now remembered by few would speak of an old lady that used to lurk through the shadows of the dense forests of Toril before the fall of the Night. Many names were given to her, the most known being Matinta Perera.
From time to time, she would turn into an owl, raven or crow, fly away from the woods and clasp her talons upon the fences and roofs of a village. She would start whistling and cawing nonstop until someone came to make an offering for the bird to cease the noise. It could be cigar, coffee, ale or fish... things that would make the Matinta stop and fly away to only return on the next day, demanding the agreed payment from the annoyed villager. If the word is broken and the agreement is not fulfilled, a disgrace would take the house of the person that lied to Matinta.
The tales say that the curse of being a Matinta would go from mother to daughter. Now, if the woman who was bestowed the curse did not give birth to a child, she would hide into the woods and yell at the first passing by woman "Do you want?". If the answer were "I do", a new Matinta would raise on the next night.
Few ways are available to trap such being. One of them enlists the need for scissors, a common key, a sacred set of praying beads and a never used broom. You bury the key, pierce the ground with the scissors and drop the beads upon them. Every Matinta that steps around the area would be trapped there and once the woman is free from the curse, you need to swipe the area with the broom so the Matinta will not spread again.
Another way of defeating a Matinta is to use a spell that holds the chants favored to exorcise curses while she is shifted. That will keep her weak and away for a while.
