Title: RSD Suggestion: Add a "lesser restore" as a "tier 1" clicky
Post by: CloudyDay on September 24, 2016, 01:52:21 PM
Red Star Defiants are apparently, a lot of fun! I never knew that before now! I am playing a RSD now and enjoying it quite a lot. But I have noticed one issue. On any DM quest, or any sufficiently long scripted quest you are going to have upwards of 50 or 60 or more willpower or fortitude checks which could potentially result in permanent stat loss.

Why so many?

There are many mobs which will hit you with such a save if not every round, then at least once a fight from spells. There are types of mobs with auras which spawn in groups so even if you only fail on a 2, after fighting enough groups you will roll a 2. Added together, unless you have stellar saves that means you will ultimately start to fail at least one and probably several. By the end of long quests you will probably become a drained mess with seriously reduced stats.

So I have a suggestion for a minor adjustment!

What about a "lesser restoration" ability which runs on the same timer as the other /c fighter_perk options? I don't think it would be unbalanced in that you would still have to wait 10 minutes to use it and after that, have any other option unavailable for ten minutes. Most RSDs seem to always use sharpen, unless they have a compelling reason not to. This means that using lesser restoration will lower their attack bonus and damage output as a trade off.  Or giving it an even longer timer, say 15 minutes?

Stat loss is irritating but not particularly difficult to get rid of for others. Most people carry several crystals with lesser restoration, lesser restoration potions etc. Red Star Defiants are effectively stuck with permanent stat loss until they rest. Or hit level 8 which lets them clear it once a quest at the cost of giving up a serious buff. Which is tough to get to when you keep dying due to stat loss!

Or what about adding a lesser restoration ability on its own 30 minute timer? RSDs would still have to deal with the dread of stat loss during quests but would have an opportunity to purge it at some point. On long DM quests they won't be a half dead mess by the time they reach the end, even if they will probably still have some stat loss.

Basically, stat loss and dealing with it is a major part of combat in NWN and the inability of RSDs to deal with stat loss looks like an issue which could use some tweaking.

That is my suggestion. If anyone has any input or thoughts or other ideas on a better mechanic to give RSDs access to lesser restoration, please share.

Too many times I've been hit by poison traps that drops my con to 4 or str down to the point where I can't hit anything and can't move anywhere. Not having any way to remove this at all is really strange. There's anti-toxins etc for secondary damage but I'm already permanently (until rest) crippled for the quest/event.

A lesser restore seems reasonable or at least some sort of natural restoring item that can be used. I don't know anything about scripts, but perhaps if you beat the DC by 10 or something with anti-toxin you can restore the damage?

Hopeful for some change in the future, thanks.

Perhaps if possible script the antitoxin to remove all poison effects for RSD

Well, can't you just use your poison immunity brew?

It's not just poison they want to treat I think, but any drain that is magical/supernatural. Things like a crippling strike drain (extraordinary I think that's categorised as) should remain though if it's just lesser restore.

Maybe 'just another thing for RSDs' could be that they get the 'most' out of Salutary Tonics and Antitoxin useable objects and it applies the ability drain removal as per the spell counterparts of Remove Disease and Neutralise Poison, provided they make the check or an enhanced check to save.
