Earth Alchemy : Critical Failure result produces an Earth Elemental + An Earthquake.
The reflex save for the earthquake is bugged and knocks you down + does (What I assume to be) full damage, It averages around 40 damage with a successful save
This, combined with the fact the elemental has around 30 damage a hit and +16 ab means this is almost always death, regardless of your setup or whoever you have around since the knockdown
rarely, if ever, effects the elemental itself.

As an aside, can I point out that this is an exceptionally cruel critical fail which is way higher in danger in comparison to all of the other ones I've encountered so far. - An elemental on its own is extreamely dangerous, but knockdown + damage as well (even with a save) is very much overkill.
This isn't a bug and you can survive it easily enough, just prepare better. There's much crueller alchemy fails out there.
Some critical failures on alchemy will instantly kill your character without any counter, apart from a saving throw.
Alchemy is intended dangerous. If you wish to make a suggestion that it become safer, the Suggestion sub-forum is available to you, but I do not hold high expectations of you persuading the server staff to reduce the mortal peril in their crafting system.
Stoneskin would've let you survive that.
Well for what it's worth guys I'd rather wait for a dm response on what is and is not a bug.

In my opinion the reflex save should prevent the KD...
Though because it doesn't, you can use this to your advantage as well.
The earth elemental *is also affected by the knockdown* however if you remain in melee range during its appearance & earthquake hit it will attack anyway due to some weird game mechanic.Best way to survive this to be queued to run away immediately after the craft and hope the elemental didn't spawn in the path you want to escape. You may still get knocked down but both you and the earth elemental will be stationary for the same period of time.
Small lag shouldn't be that much an issue, the earth elemental is actually always hit by the spell because of the sequence of events, and if you
queue the run (such as clicking on an object in the distance) your character is set to move out of the way when it is possible to do so on the server-side.
The Earth elemental is only effected by the knockdown if it is summoned BEFORE the EQ effect takes place - and even then, it can get attacks off.
Lag is fun, in this regard.

Making the save with Evasion still causes knockdown and full damage.
The reflex save is definately bugged and not functioning.
I can confirm the save has no effect on the damage done, I was standing near by with my monk when it occurred and this is the result
I can confirm that saving, even with evasion, has no effect. I was standing near by with my monk when the earthquake aoe occurred, even with evasion and having saved I still took the usual full damage of 40+.
I was standing near by with my monk, managed to save, with evasion and yet still took full damage so I can confirm there is no effect if you save.
