Dear friends,
This thread is a way for us to get some feedback about what you think about switching to NWN EE (when it is ready). For some of you paying an additional 20$ may be a deal breaker, there may also be technical considerations. Feel free to comment and tell us your thoughts.

I am totally neutral on this.
For me, it depends on the availability of the game to players. If we're /all/ willing and able to switch, /and/ EE brings new players in? Then yes, totally.
If, on the other hand, EE locks old players/players who don't have excess cash lying around out? Er, no thank you.
I'm switching for sure.
For the uninitiated whats the benefits/downsides of this move? For example I presume would it require loads of re-modelling and thus a huge effort of time from the DM's? ON the upside do we have a good view on what the improvements will be?
Honestly, I would totally switch, just depends on what changes, how much of a hassle it would be on haks and overrides, (will it be a fresh remake essentially or just an uplift/coat of pain)... as said, if we can get new players and its feasable, absolutely!... we need way more players lol
And also if people literally cant pay 20$ for EE, I will personally buy a few copys and steam gift them! Even if I only buy 4... thats basically the price of a new game and worth it.
Paying 20 bucks is totally worth the chance to have an influx of new players. I also extend Starmonger's invitation: given the kind of close-knit community we are, I would totally be willing to help those that may struggle with financially affording the switch to EE.
Right just pre-ordered and probably going with the head start (if I can), see whats what.
I did some reading and it looks like most fears when it comes to technical stuff is unfounded, supposedly everything is backwards compatable(haks, modules, saves etc) so yay! I'm actually hyped for (technically) a 14 year old game lol
I want to see some new players in here. It'd totally be worth the 20 bucks plus all the griefing and metagaming that comes with new players. I'm in.
Just for everyone's benefit, see the below:

My two cents, players are the lifeblood of a online game. This gives us the opportunity to attract new players with what seems like relatively minor costs. I am all for it.
Edit: To be clear I am talking about the financial cost of the new edition. Defer to the DMs & Builders on the time cost of transitioning EfU to the new edition.
I think that EE is going to be amazing for NWN communities. It's important to keep in mind it's not just some improved graphics options, the new version has a lot of fixes and stability improvements, some of which I'm very happy about (such as a fix to containers being stuck open, and the ability to outrun an aura effect such as magic circle against alignment). The game will also be more open to modding and hopefully will have far less issues with some things being "hard coded." The game will be released on Steam as well, so we'll likely see a pretty large influx of new players, with more coming in every time there's a sale.
Agreed. I think the transition is going to be an amazing thing. Obviously, it is going to take a lot of work and some extra cash. But, the gaming experience would be enhanced greatly. Count me in.
Truth be told, with a newborn son, I can't afford to drop $20 on NWN :\
When it comes out, I got you
Remind me later.
Also happy to chime in and sponsor those for who budget is tight. Just drop me a PM when the time is near.
I would be happy to pitch in to make the transition smoother. After reading so many questions about the future of the chapter and EFU in general, I feel like this could be our best scenario for growth.
You guys are awesome for offering to pitch in :)
As for EE: I'm down for it. Getting the server browser back would help visibility. Not to mention that a lot of old NWN players might get back into things once they see it's gotten an EE
I"m one of those people on a budget! If Pent or Starmonger desire to pitch in send me a PM! I think the server should consider doing an influx of people can't hurt.
Might be a bit early for steam gift keys( I think its just wishlist and pre-order) but as it gets closer shoot me a pm
I am happy to make the move over to Enhanced Edition, and help in any way I can with whatever is needed for it. I think NWN:EE could be amazingly huge, if they do it right. We all need to advertise for it though, and spread the word. I HOPE that Beamdog advertises the huge amount of Multiplayer content, but they may focus on SP as everyone else always does.
I think it's a cool idea and I'd be happy to pitch in to help with any changes needed. The more tech savvy of the playerbase could help with some of the more rote, repeatable scripting changes or something if it could be written up to be done.
Also, as others have offered, I'll absolutely sponsor some of our existing compatriots with a gift of the game upgrade. I'll even volunteer to coordinate the effort if the DM team wants me too. Take names to nickname mappings and share them one per offer of a gift, etc.
Think the only things that'll need adjusting are probably .tlk and overrides like the spells.2da and stuff if they've added new spells / class-appropriate feats or changed spell names to accommodate.
Everything else should be fine. Can't wait to see what kind of new content like prestige classes, level caps, feats, spells and spell-like abilities they introduce.
I wonder how many hackers will start playing this game again for the trolling lols when this comes out?
"This one time, at Band Camp" a headless half-orc with butterfly wings riding an invisible horse showed up...
I would be down to gift some keys to those strapped for cash. Would love to see everyone playing! :)
Sadly I am on a very strict budget for the next year and buying any game would be almost impossible.
Think it's the right move myself. I just hope it doesn't bring a lot of stress moving over the server to the new platform, or cause conflicts with what EFU's got going on server-wise at the moment.
A bunch of other players have reached out to me privately also to say that they would be happy to buy a couple of copies for other members of the community. It's so nice to see this community come together.
So I guess we're going to do this?
If the DMs are willing/able to do the legwork on seeing things carry over smoothy no complaint from me.
If EE helps the server overall I'm more than happy to make the switch, and would be willing to do a +1 for someone who is unable to get it themselves.
Hellllll yes. I'm thrilled for this.
That said, since they're fixing mounts, will Paladins be getting mounts again? Or still no-go on that? I am all about that Paladin jousting life.
I totally support this, this is a NWN fans dream come true, this could potentially revive the game in ways we haven't seen in forever, more players, better systems, better graphics. I'm all for it, and will happily scrape together the cash to pay for the CD key- and if one of you can't afford it, and no one else can get you for a copy, I swear, by all that i am capable of, no matter what I have to do, I will find the funds to get you a key, I'll sell some old games if I have to, I'd love to see us all together in this, and I don't want to see a single player lost due to being unable to afford it. This community is great, and i'm sure we all have eachother's backs. I'm pre-ordering it myself.
And as mentioned, if this alleviates the amount of things hardcoded in the original game, then this is possibly one of the best things to happen to the ability to create custom content. Ever. Let's do this
Also people! They are taking suggestions on almost any kind of improvement in the new EE of NwN, if there's any functions, things you'd like to see, don't hesitate to make an account and leave your suggestions here: https://forums.beamdog.com/categories/nwn-general-discussions
As has been said before, as long as the DMs don't mind, it's cool with me.
I think this could really reinvigorate the community / server. You would likely see many retuning players alongside the new ones.
I'm also willing to pitch in a buy a few copies for anyone who wants to switch but can't afford to. I also would like to throw out the idea that the switch might be a good opportunity to start a new chapter.
I concur with the new chapter for a multitude of reasons.
A. New players might get completely confused and lost when it comes to this setting and all that has gone on.
B. With a nea version, no matter how easy it is to cooy paste, having a brand new setting would put everyone on a clean slate and even playing field.
C. I think I’m not the only one to say this setting is getting... if not stale, then at least getting repetitive.
Just my 2 cents

Being a penniless student, I'd be really grateful if I could take you up on that offer my man.
I just tried to trade with somebody IG and inventory window kept closing then I had an epiphany and actually screamed with joy at the prospect that EE might fix that bug.
Ill support it if everyone else is doing it.
This is a great opportunity to bolster the community, and I think we'd be silly not to embrace this blessing in disguise.
It seems to me like the server kind of fell off lately. Being a Novice player at best, its been sad to see the distinct lack of random adventuring parties, random sending stone's calling for random people to join up and cruise the server. I think many veteran players of the server get caught in the repetitiveness of the scripted questing and put RPing said mundane quests to the side burner. I think starting a new chapter /and/ incorporating this EE would breathe fresh air into this beautiful setting. The 20$ is a big deal on my part personally, but for most I think its a small price to pay for the bug fixes and enhancements EE offers. My 2 cents.
I can't say I'll come back, but if there's a few of us willing to make a pool to help current players get the EE, I can pitch in a few copies.
I have seen some players taking the heroic offer of offering to purchase for players, I recently lost my door to door salesmen job selling Solar Panels, I even had to move back in with my father and his family while I find another job, I will be an active player again and if anyone could make the purchase for me I would be really appreciative and grateful.
Thanks
and long live EFU!
Can someone explain this (or point to an existing explanation) to someone who is not computer savvy?
I am probably the dumbest person here when it comes to computers, so I don't know what I need to do to continue playing. Someone please break this down for us (surely, I'm not the only one) technically handicapped players.
Thanks.
Beamdog has basically been working their way through Bioware's old library of games and refurbishing them with new graphics and other improvements. They just released their version of NWN today. We are planning to move the server over for both the improvements as well as the chance for increased server traffic. You can purchase the new version on Steam, or Beamdog's own service. If you need more help I can walk you through it.
