Title: The Royal Spaniels

The Royal Spaniels

[hide=Background]The Rat Catcher's Guild has a reputation among the desperate and downtrodden. For those who enjoy the easy coin though there's a jarring moment when the Guildmistress Rosehill says "I can't pay you anymore maybe you should find new work". While some folk take this as a time to move to Prospecting or Ring Running, Zymiar Ghrum took advantage of a situation: The Royal Tournament of The King. After joining the Orzan Team for the Melee he was paid in full to assist for the day competing in every event despite not being of House Orza.

With banner-badges pinned to his chest like campaign medals there's been an increase of work in the Peerage post-tournament. Handling contracts for  Orza, Velstra, The Glitt, Sunpurse, and even the enigmatic House Savary as The Royal Spaniel of the Peerage Ward. As more contracts come in though it's only natural to seek more hands. A proper Company.[/hide]

Since EFU:A (And my legendary failure that was The Coterie of the Gilded Cock) i've always been fascinated with the idea of high society/elite mercenaries. So often "Mercenary" in EFU lends itself to a lot of common tendencies - Some PCs who are friends ICly or OOCly get together and do some questing, find a few more friends, form a company. At this point then it just becomes a booming gauntlet of grinding quests and bringing along other PCs to hit quests, then taking the occasional jobs. Then people either flame out, get bored, or just start joining the company to quest up then betray.

I'd like to try and help change that.

While Ticker has had, and has (Go go Tax Collectors!) more chaotic leaning Mercenaries I love the idea of a more lawful organized effort of mercenary activity. The Peerage presents an interesting twist on things which I've tried to crack in the past without success so thought I'd try another hand in it. Primarily because the way the peerage rolls and shifts based on what PCs are in which house it can entirely alter the entire landscape of the Houses. One minute a House can have a super powered magical influence and the next they're rock-eating headsmashers.

One minute the Houses can be at one another throats and the next, after a certain PC dies in a duel be best friends. So with all the Houses fighting for prestige and nobility and the Spinning Groat sitting at the center of the Ward I think there's some interesting opportunity for mercenaries to "Fill in the Blanks" so to speak.

- A more martial PC needs a subtle business deal done? Operatives for contract.

- A House Wizard without many allies lacking the meat? Soldiers for Hire.

- Your friendly Retainer Taken hostage? Third party Negotiation.

- Your High Society Tea Party needs some flavor? Large, menacing gentlemen.

The Dispensary, Duels, Politics, DM Events, PC Events, the Peerage offers so much potential fun for mercenaries especially if a House or two is currently "Against the Tide" of the ward and looking to hold their own against a larger or more unified House.  Equally though as a way for PCs to have some more leverage in negotiations in joining a House. Maybe a reputable PC who has been around a while given some more incentive and leverage from NPCs to sweeten the pot to finally sign on long term for a House.

If it piques interest hit me up IC or RwG on Discord.

The name alone makes this an A+ tier concept
