It's my birthday today. And one of my most favorite characters to RP has died. So here's his story.
Raph Mede was originally intended to be a cultist of shadows, a person who would live in the Peerage and slowly convince people work for him, conspire murder plots, and engage in plenty of intrigue. That was on 12/28/2019.
As you can see, this is an older PC that I've had a lot of back and forth on. Mostly, I couldn't find the right identity, and the Peerage was mostly dead every time I'd log in. So I threw him on the back burner and figured, 'Eh, grind it out every now and then.' Turns out, you can make a lot of gold doing lowbies. I think I died on a quest about a week in, and quit out of frustration. Two months ago, gave him another shot, and realized I had about 4500 gold in his purse.

This is when Mede started merchanting, deciding that maybe honor and prestige isn't enough for him. Some times, you can find a better living making a lot of groat. He met a certain rogue figure, who'd he consider his first friend, Geoffery Manse..

Mede was also present when the Orzans and Groatcloaks first marched conjoined together in Ticker Square. As you can see detailed here, Mede was quite the coward in his early days...

Merchanting wasn't something I ever thought I'd like. In fact, it was painful, carrying around two to three hundred pounds on a 10 strength sorcerer. I don't know what, but it just kind of clicked with me on Mede. I enjoyed it, but I couldn't stand doing nothing BUT merchanting. It made me lose a lot of motivation on this character, and to anyone who was engaged with him in any conflict around this period, I am really sorry for bailing. I just couldn't find motiviation to just sit in the Square and do nothing.
For the next few months, Mede would log on for a brief time, while I tried to figure out what to do with the character, but I couldn't give him a clear mindset. At this point, I'd made well over forty thousand gold. Ten thousand on wand crafting, ten thousand on a particular set of robes, and another ten thousand gambling, with random expenses in between. So after I had died on my irrelevant Orzan whose name I can't remember, I figured 'Let's get real this time with this bastard.' And that's how we get to the Mede we know today.
So, in the midst of Mede's on and off cycle, there was a plot that dealt with particular shards. Mede had taken one, and figured nothing would come of it. But once I returned on this PC, an auction formed, and the shards were being sold... So Mede took his chance for infamy; to buy all the shards. And he did. He bought them all, and struck a bargain with Ib'javi. Interrupted by a band of adventurers, he desired all their gold along with more, for a sum of ten thousand for his shards. He knew that another shard had slipped his grasp, and hired Vesh and Brigs to find Ashervan the Thief, an elf that argued he could get far more for his shard than what I offered him.
That elf paid for it with his life, because as we all know now, Brigs and Vesh Mock were Tchunites. Mede had made friends with them, somewhat aware of their identity, as he had sold a Tchunite amulet to Vesh. Things were good...

And it seemed Mede would only continue to go up, in his height of infamy and power.

Mede at this point became full infernalist. I didn't expect devils to be strong, but they worked, and it was fun to make them say ridiculous things while questing.

Mean Mede's Mighty Meads.
So now we're reaching the final days. I'm not going to point out everything, only the highlights of the character. Mede's contract with Damian was beneficial to both of them; Mede would get a strong armed captain, and Damian would get a supplier of vials, groat, and more.... But Mede originally offered him a serious deal...

And, as demanded by his contract, Mede had found a potential wife to be...

Things were good. Got nearly killed a few things, but I kept surviving. But some plots and schemes tend to get away from you, when you've only just considered them in passing, and decided against them later. But I suppose, not everyone believes what you have to say, even with your life on the line.
It's not a good death. In fact, this is easily one of my top three worst deaths, because of how immediate and disgusting it was. I had a lot of schemes, a lot of plots, a lot of ideas. Ruined, because of a stupid, silly rumor.
I'm not going to rant at the person who killed me; probably if I was in their shoes, I might've done the same. And it's probably not a good idea, given my current irritation and anger over this death, to continue commenting on what happened. I would only suggest that in the future, maybe grant a rival a moment to explain, or let them monologue a bit. EFU's a RP server. I know that excuse is weak, as I've been guilty of too quick to FD myself, but, damn. I'm just really tired of the lameness. After how much time I've spent this week, to only watch it go to waste, I'm just mostly disappointed.
Anyway, here's some meme screenshots and loot pics. I might not play EFU for a while. I might be on tomorrow on a new PC after sleeping this frustration off. All I know is, you guys keep doing you.

A really good and terrifying maniacal evil character well done.
Aw, seeing Geoffrey Manse mentioned here ...
... makes me a bit sad about losing him to the, at the time absolutely overpowered, barbarian fear scream. Oh well.
Mede was an evil guy who was very open about being evil and still survived for that long. I think that's a nice kick to the teeth for anyone who'd say that you can't play an open infernalist on EfU. Good job!
Great PC and well done.
Very bold with the power plays summoning devils mid square etc.
Taking an FD after investing so much in a character is always brutal, especially the days just after being near unbearable. But it might change future interactions for the better as you've been on the receiving end.
Admittedly I had little interaction with Mede. On the three characters I've played spanning his lifetime. Though each interaction was mostly mercantile in nature and he will be missed.
Well done. I recall a fun little moment in Ticker.
Mede: *CASTS ALL THE BUFFS AND SEE INVIS* Maybe I'm being paranoid.
Brogan: No, I don't think so. Lots of people really ARE out to get you.
I liked the character, he was a great concept of the Affably Evil trope. I mean, it's all just business, right? You win Faust Prize :P
Honestly, from having met him I figured that a sudden gank or pitched showdown with some paladins was probably the way he was going to go, on account of being a fairly terrifying master of a small devil army and having some powerful mates he hung out with. It sucks that it's frustrating, and whoever got you was basically too intimidated to give some good judgement or gloating. I hope your next PC is just as cool. You wore that metaphorical HUGE BLACK HAT with pride.
MUH DOWRY!
I really enjoyed our moments of conversation. My character was never evil, but I found myself wondering whether she should be. Assuming of course that Mede spoke true, it felt like they were of similar mind on matters.
Anyway! I am sorely disappointed that we didn't get the chance to see how that marriage would have done. I was pretty sure I was going to either get killed, or being harassed. But I also looked forward to that. I wanted to see whether Lucretia had the strength she seems to think she has when it comes to public perception and grief. But that's just how it goes sometimes.
Great job! I look forward to seeing what else you bring.
Mede's rise really seemed to coincide with Ticker's 'fall from grace', between the scheming and plotting to collect the shards of Ulm to cowing people into submission with writs of murder to open infernalism. He was a great PC and it sucks that your ending wasn't what you would've wanted.
Too soon.
Mede was definitely the scary bigman of Tickertown for a while, kudos to you man.
I am proud of you. This has the scumlord stamp of approval.
great job
Mede was very casual and aloof in his villainous ways, it made him likeable as a character.
Arek only got to know him during his rapid rise and fall in Ticker Square. They shared a few good moments and I'll remember the PC fondly.
Kudos and I look forward to your next.
