I feel like the Energy Blast spell is unpopular. I could be wrong, but it feels that way to me.
[hide=Energy Blast]Spell level: sorcerer/wizard 3
Innate level: 3
School: evocation
Components: verbal, somatic
Range: long (40 meters)
Area of effect: single
Duration: instant
Save: reflex 1/2
Spell Resistance: yes
The caster launches a blast of elemental energy, dealing 1d4 damage to the target for each of the caster's levels. The blast's energy is chosen by the caster and can be fire, electricity, cold or acid.[/hide]
Its primary advantage is that it is a container spell for 4 lesser spells, so maybe it's intended to only be comparable to a level 2 spell effect, but at level 2, evocation offers some pretty impressive spells like Combust.
Some changes that might make Energy Blast more appealing could include one of the following:
- Making it a small radius aoe or close-ranged cone ("blast" makes me think a cone, like a shotgun)
- Removing the whole elemental options part of the spell and just making it a flat "force" damage type, a blast of pure raw magical energy
- Keeping everything the same but allowing it to bypass Spell Resistance
- Switching the reflex save for half to a ranged touch
Just some thoughts I had, nothing particularly vital or important, but I'd be curious how others feel about this spell too.
I can confirm this spell is incredibly weak and I have never seen it cast once.
