For quests with randomised enemies/abilities, allow PCs to roll a skill check to ask into the details of the group you're facing. On a critical failure, reveal false information about the enemy type and their abilties, on a failure, no information, on a success reveal information.
You could tie it to multiple skills depending on the foe. Lore to know details about the creature type, persuade to gather information about the bandit group and its tactics from people that have encountered them in the Krak, search to read tracks near the enemy encampment to know their unit composition. Consecration to know a ritual to weaken an undead foe etc.
