To the Esteemed Legates of Ephia's Well,I write to you as a Nadiri of the Astronomers' Tower and a committed engineer in service to the Well's greater future. With the Quarry being a cornerstone of our material supply chain—and a site of regular injury, exhaustion, and delay—I would like to formally propose a focused endeavor I am calling:
The Quarry InitiativeThis initiative seeks to improve the safety, efficiency, and morale of the workers who risk themselves daily to keep Ephia's construction efforts alive. To this end, I humbly offer three implementable proposals:
1. Counterweighted Lift Rigs (Drop-Cranes)- Mechanical cranes designed to lift stone from lower tiers to processing platforms using a simple lever-weight system.
- Can be operated by two quarrymen.
- Reduces strain injuries and broken cargo.
- Estimated cost per rig: 7,000–8,000 dinars
2. Minecart Track Systems- Fixed rail systems to move stone, tools, and equipment across quarry levels.
- Greatly reduces the need for physical hauling by laborers.
- Can be sloped or winch-aided depending on terrain.
- Particularly effective for bulk movement between excavation and sorting zones.
- Estimated cost per segment (track, cart, fittings): 4,000–5,000 dinars
3. Reflective Cooling Shade Arrays- Mirrored rigging positioned above resting or sorting zones to lower ambient temperature.
- Reduces risk of heatstroke and increases worker endurance on long shifts.
- Foldable for easy relocation.
- Estimated cost per array: 1,500–2,000 dinars
These designs are ready for prototype development pending modest funding. With your approval, I would oversee construction, labor coordination, and iterative refinement based on worker feedback.
In time, the Initiative may lead to the integration of golem laborers for hazardous roles—requiring greater investment, but a safer, more efficient Well.
I remain at your disposal for demonstration or consultation.
