Title: Shackles
Post by: Thomas_Not_very_wise on February 26, 2009, 01:10:13 AM
Can we have an option to pick them if they are applied onto you?

Can the person applying the shackles get an option on how they wish to apply them, like on the hands, (Prevents wielding a blade, casting spells)

Or on their feet, (Slow movement rate)

Or one one hand and foot (Slow movement speed, low ab, spell failure..)

Just a thought,

As far as I know, there is a way to break out of shackles, if you know what to buy.

there is

You can always be beaten until they break.

Which gets annoying.

No, I mean there is (I am pretty sure) an item IG to ICly release you from the shackles. I'm not talking about the annoying subdual bugs!

Shackles are applied to both hands and feet, I believe. Hence the arcane spell failure and reduced movement speed, etc.

I know what you are talking about.

It's not worth spending the money when you can just get beaten to break the shackles AND Annoy the person who applied them.

Any smart person would shackle both arms and legs, and when you are shackled you receive proper penalties to reflect this.

Shackles should only be applied if the target has supplicated, been subdued, or held by some other manner - ie. Hold Person, or some other form of parylisation (Not tanglefoot bags).

Also, "shackles" always restrain your hands and feet, and are inter-connected.  That's what they do.

To expound on pups statement, shackle's are around the wrists and ankles, and a chain running from the connecting chains between the feet and hands connect upper and lower extremities. This forces movement to be about a half step per foot, from the normal gait, and keeps the arms in a somewhat bent position at the full extension of the arm, ..., if the length of the connecting chain is appropriately applied.  Picture the esteemed Senator McCain in the town hall debate with now President Obama and add chains, his movement about the hall is roughly the same as a shackled person.

The only thing you can pick is your nose Thomas.

Getting in on this, I'd say shackles should be fairly cheap. 600 odd gold is fairly expensive, considering how much it takes out the potential bounty on bringing someone in alive.

I'd say they should cost maybe 300, less even. Anyone wanting to be a bounty hunter, and any Guard should easily be able to afford them. Possibly also offer Prisoner Rope at 50 and weight 2.5, with Prisoner Rope being easy to bust out of, but impossible to pick.

A final point, picking could be implemented by making a cheap version of that item that opens shackles, that requires an Open Lock roll to use.

Hold-person shackling is a bit in the same bag as hold-person arrest, I think.

The consensus was: You're safer if you apply only shackles (or arrest people) that have *fully* complied or fully been subdued.

* publicly disagrees with Mort for an entirely third reason, plunging the playerbase into confusion and chaos *
