To:
Vice-Chancellor Pakas Oruko of Tlonsiyya
Overseer of Hisar Tlonsiyya
Magus of Izdu
Et cetera, et cetera,
The people of Ephia's Well wish to thank you again for your wonderful visit. We were truly blessed to be afforded your fine company for the unfortunately short hours of your time here.
Furthermore, Ephia's Well is eager to fulfill the promise of sending labourers to Tlonsiyya. Many of our Scribes are in the midst of creating educational and promotional campaigns to present Tlonsiyya as a destination of work and opportunity. While such work is in progress, we would also wish to clarify some things which may further entice the people here to make way to Tlonsiyya.
Firstly, would we be correct in assuring those interested but hesitant to work in Tlonsiyya that they shall not need to relinquish their status as a subject of the Sultanate of Baz'eel and that they will be protected by Tlonsiyya law similar to that of our own when it comes to safeguarding peoples' lives and property?
Second, we would be grateful to know more of the conditions afforded to labourers--especially in the event of misfortune, as can befall even the best-prepared. Many here would be reassured and motivated to know that injuries shall be met with care and return provisions, as fits the Mother's compassion
On a final unrelated note, as per the agreement to purchase seven of your wondrous and inventive ash turbines, the Palatial Pyramid has set aside 112,500 dinari for the first of two payments. This money is ready to be picked up your authorized representative. If you will be sending Me'raz, whom would undoubtedly do an excellent job of protecting the payment during transport, let us know a head of time and we can also prepare a package of Mro Po's falafels and kebabs.
As this letter reaches its end, may it find you in good health and deep insight. We remain at your disposal for further exchange and hope our steps may continue in tandem toward shared prosperity and cooperation.
With the Mother's Mercy,
Legate Faith Kruehtzer
Legate Kruehtzer,
The Vice Chancellor was delighted to receive your missive. I read it to him as he was being tended to an oil bath by his physicians.
He wished to make clear several points:
- Those who choose to relocate to Tlonsiyya will be offered all rights and protections of a citizen of Tlonsiyya.
They are expected to relinquish whatever rights you afforded them as refugees of Ephia's Well.
He assures me they will have a greater chance at life than languishing beyond your walls as 'subjects of the Sultanate of Baz'eel'.
You need not worry, they shall trade the open sky above them for a roof, the rotten bedroll they sleep upon for a warm bed, and the someone inevitable death from starvation, ash storms, or raiders, for a full belly and the myriad protections of Hisar Tlonsiyya.
You will understand that allowing them to retain any manner of citizenship or otherwise would be in direct contradiction to a number of other treaties and promises and would have a number of far reaching consequences best avoided by all of us.
- Misfortune can happen in pursuit of salvage in the Arteries. This has been made abundantly clear throughout every conversation on this topic.
You may be further assured that Tlonsiyya has a great many physicians, under the intruction of Naila Adi, our Chief Physician.
Any injuries are swiftly tended with great skill and care. Many injured can continue to work by the miracles performed by Doctor Adi.
If death should occur, their Will and Testament shall be honoured, as is proper under the eyes of the Martyrs.
- We have received your first payment and are making preparations to begin erection of the first turbines in the Ephian State Quarry. Our Chief Engineer expects a week to two weeks needed to see them fully operational.
On behalf of the Vice Chancellor,
Kur Tarul
P.S. I shall chalk up your use of 'Mother's Mercy' as you being an outlander. You should consider the context in which that phrase is most commonly used in future.
