Aubrey of the Rose,

don't pursue the argument against the Fourth Legion in regards to prosecuting Vaskr.
Because you will embarrass yourself.

This isn't an enemy's threat, but a friend's warning.

Duly noted.

I nonetheless believe it is a grievous miscarriage of justice to see this man sent into the maw of a lion for this "offense."

Dear Lyrist Aubrey,

It's Knud again. Hello.

This is a letter and a preventive measure! I am becoming more politically aware during my time in Ephia's Well, or what I like to call "A den of vipers".

Recently there's been some commotion surrounding my actions. Oops.
You see, I'd slain this Necromancer-Brooker-Wyrmist fellow called Qadir ibn Salam.
By accident, it happened during the fight, you know, sometimes you swing an axe and it turns out you hacked someone's head off when you just tried to hack an arm or something less permanent.

But as it turns out, 'some' people (read: morons) think I did it on purpose and furthermore think "The Fourth" are butchers because of it, rather than pursuers of Justice.

Now... I would really, really, really, appreciate it, if you didn't take this opportunity to bash the Fourth Legion because it would make /me/ look bad in their eyes.

In return, well, in six days, I might be doing something to your benefit, and the Fourth's detriment, hehe.
Although there's also a chance I won't make it- if that's the case, well I'll figure out something other.

And don't do it by proxy either!!! Please?

Candidly, Knud, I haven't a clue what you're talking about.

The affairs of ashfolk hours are achingly far away from my influence. Qadir ibn Salam isn't even a name that I recognize.

My concerns revolve around the ambivalence of the legates, the unruliness and disdain of my own flock,  the objective corruption of Hanson's green-cloaked coterie, and the encroaching threat of this djinn that I am incapable of impacting save through unheard wisdoms laid before my subordinates.

You would have made a capable Balladeer. I am disappointed. Disappointed both at the farness of your actions and that you have chosen to commit them whilst being among the Legion.

Nonetheless, I shall afford you some measure of advice. In part, as thanks for the warnings you issued on Hanson's betrayal. In part, because we march in a similar direction and I sincerely believe that your success has the capacity to make our citadel better.

You are reviled amongst your superiors and your comrades. This does not bother you, but it obstructs you more than you fathom. And until you strive above and beyond the expectations of your peers and superiors -- until you reach milestones that they are not expected to achieve, but demonstrably could not achieve -- you will continue to be a misplaced raider. Irrelevant in spite of your proposed destiny.

You must provide a public and vociferous contrast to Hanson's depravities, brooking insubordinate and balancing upon the line of being too boisterous and inconvenient not to fire whilst being too competent and capable to wrench a cloak from.

You must commit deeds in the public forum of the Hall of Jurisprudence. The dictates and actions of a single man are forgettable after he is silenced and removed. But the Chorus of the People is a song that cannot be so easily snuffed by the powers that be. Killing a nascent necromancer in the Gutters is an irrelevant notch on a belt of glories. Being the person who captures, prosecutes, and executes a necromancer in a justified manner, with a roar of approval from the People? It is a thing most sublime.

You aspire to legend. A man does not become legendary through his own insistence. He becomes a legend because the People speak of him in the hushed, reverent tones of Myth.

As for mine critique over the bellows? It is reserved for the cowards and the corrupt; those who would exploit the People and lend them no succor.

'Lo Aubrey,

Man died to my axe as I tried to capture them, what can I do?

That said yeah dragging him infront of a Magistrate and seeing justice done is superior to this anti-climax.

But it isn't murder committed by some kinda senseless killer, all I'm trying to say.

You haven't full visibility of my other actions within the Legion, but I've worked to prevent some corruption of which you'd be proud.

It is funny what you've said about balancing my role within the Legion because those are precisely my tactics.

Anyway, let me get to the point, I'll be at the March, if time allows ((irl)).

And I never planned to be Janissary for long. I was to come in, capture Valeria, shout loudly and then leave.

But that bitch just hides in shadow and behind locked doors. What's an axe wielding brute to do? Don't see it happening alas.

So now I'll just have to find some other method of attaining glory and leaving honorably. I can't just randomly quit, what kinda tale would that be? Hehe.

Having said that, I just ask you not to burn me to the ground or discard potential you see too early.

Who knows what cloak flutters behind my back in the future?

Insistence really helps by the way don't underestimate it.

No burning or discarding on my end. I'm sure we will have ample opportunity to collaborate in the future.

No promises for Enmur, though.
