Title: Second Trade hall in Souk
Post by: Legebril on September 26, 2025, 04:41:02 PM
Open/create second TradeHall in Souk so that interested parties can rent it out.
Why? Because competition is basis of a healthy market economy also this would open opportunities for some cool RP and interactions.

I do not need it IC, had an idea that if there would be a second option for players it could stir things up. Otherwise it is more one-sided commerce with occasional non-standard wares sold by individual players(archeology)

There are very clear guidelines from the staff that "you can ask for (nearly) anything, but if you want anything done that will require dev work, you will need to work with a DM to actually get it implemented". Just acting like it's even technically feasible is a good way to end in disappointment.

I for one think this is a great idea and would be happy to discuss it in character, perhaps getting a petition started would be a good first step.

Before the Trade Hall there were just stalls. This suggestion can be placed safely within the umbrella of expanded properties, which is something Abala has mentioned wanting to do. Albeit more properties of this vein I feel would just be underused or wasted opportunities. So on that note, pursuing it IC I would say is the best way to go about it. I think it's only one sided because most up and comer merchants just concede to whomever holds the Trade Hall at the time, so it has always been a capitalized organization for all traders to make easy money. We just need more Merchants of Venice who will claw tooth and nail to the top, no matter who stands in the way!

It's a larger issue in v6 as a whole though. Player conflict is stifled more often than naught (by other players) in place of the easier and more boring approach, and conflict does not always mean FDing people.

Figured I should chime in since that's me - I don't sell archeology pieces because it's different from the Guildhall, I sell them because it's my character's thing. I could and I have made more money selling regular gear. The Guildhall existing doesn't really hinder anyone's ability to be a regular merchant, just gives a lot of help to one.

Honestly, I do not think there ever will be more than one trade hall.
I remember when it first came out there was a little disappointment over the feeling it was being misused or underused quite a bit.

As stated before, I could be completely wrong if you can get something started IC with a DM. But I don't think a second trade hall will particularly fix the problems of the first one.

I would have to agree with the sentiment, the trade hall only really works if its very consistently open along all time zones which is a very hard feat in itself. So if people aren't consistently making stores either there probably isn't a demand for a second?

The Tradehall gives you a huge amount of storage for a permanent display, safety, and access to storage without needing to drag inventory around. So I do agree it blows any other merchant out of the water.

I kinda get wanting a second one because properties like the tradehall are usually occupied by the same person(s) for very long periods of time. But same goes for other properties, there's some that have been owned by the same person(s) for a year+. Trying to find a property to house a new group is mostly just dependant on luck because PCs rarely die, you'd just have to pray a spot opens up but there's no guarantee.

Tradehall is very well made and does a great job with storage and catalog management. It's also a huge service to PCs to be able to find loot they might miss otherwise. But it also takes a relatively high amount of time and energy IC/OOC to keep it going.

Having a kingpin isn't necessarily a bad thing, either. Toppling the king as an underdog is an excellent goal and is entirely within the realm of possibility. Mileage might vary but EFU loves a good shakeup.
