In the fires of purgatory, a new, monstrous beast was almost born from the smoldering remains of a mad little Halfling criminal sentenced to die by fire - fortunately, at the very last moment before it was unleashed on the unsuspecting condemners, it was turned to stone by the very same magicks that brought it into being.
