I heard about this and things like this actually hurt a little. I've been there and worked so hard and it was so fun, but it's /never/ nice to know someone invis-looted everything and had no challenge doing so.

Can't this be solved by placing a "key" of some sort on the explorable's boss creature in order to open the chests?

It could, but that would require that the item be created and placed on creature loot tables which admittedly isn't too hard but could be time consuming. On top of that DM's shouldn't have to. I believe this was stated in the rules, that looking encounter chests and shit isn't allowed without killing the guard mobs, or something like that.

Please do not post public information so specifically about rarer randoms like this.

Usually looting randoms without killing the monsters is at least frowned upon, in this case I'm more tolerant because the first group that found it did try to fight and ended up taking the *spoiler* items because they were very evil. I will however add a key as well as adjust this random.

T'was a beautiful battle! My Favorite creature I've fought in game since Starting my first PC! Pity my healing supplies got hit the hardest!
