Title: Holding Territories Giving Pay Wages
Post by: Sandstorm on March 06, 2009, 01:57:02 AM
It would be sort of neat if holding a territory gave everyone in that banner a small pay wage. Something like 5 gold for 10 minutes per territory or such, after you've controlled it for a certain amount of time! It would give much more of an incentive to capture and hold on to territories than an unknown boost to reputation of certain groups, and presumably, as you controlled the resource, you could find a way to make some small profit from it.

I can see the good side, with people who are high level but not in a paying faction having an incentive to explore, claim stuff and run expeditions, but also that paid DM factions could use this and their numbers/coordination to generate massive amounts of money for sitting on their butts. If it could be scripted to ignore the Guard and Stygians (Guarding colony resources is one of the things they get paid for) it could work.

This seems too much like an MMO style system, rather than anything related to roleplay. While I get that it would provide an incentive for conflict and roleplay, I don't see how you could explain where the gold comes from, or how the territory and gold changes hands.

The NPC's that work the territory sell the produce/product at a fee, and give a portion to the Banner faction.

Simple, I think.

But then how is the first person to take it over not the owner forever?

Owner via occupation.

A player has to stay in the area of the territory keeping it safe in order to receive payment.

if all the players of the facion leave, it is up for grabs then.

Just thinking aloud.

I'd prefer just having a more transparent system. When Faction A starts having cartload after cartload of precious ore brought into the city, I'm sure it'll turn a few heads from Factions B-Z!

two cents:
1. to take the territory: like a quest lvls 4-8, group 4-8;
2. when territory "clear" and safe: unlock  packs of goods of 500 lbs or more each;
3. to transport to Zigg: rent pack-mules to carry  (need a ranger to guide)
4. to protect goods: hire some armsman from Stygians or Leviathan (companions that no fight against pcs)
5. keep till reset.

IMO this is getting dangerously close to a mass Capture the Flag/PvP system, with folk running around and killing those who are protecting a certain area.

I've seen it done during my short play on .. Stormnexus? Or something like that. A grand idea at first, turned into a fatal drop of RP and constant PvPing.

And we don't want that.

I personally find the unrewarding EFUFRS (or whatever it's called) system very good for variety, a nice way to find something palpable to do while RP'ing, without it being a powerquesting train.

I'd suggest instead an expansion of the "ore caravan" quest you can get in the mines, with every holdable area having an associated fedex quest that opens up once you are controlling it.
