Title: Game Crashing on certain screens
Post by: WellRespectedMan on April 24, 2014, 04:00:57 PM
I'm really not sure if this should be a bug report, because it's possible it's only on my side, but I've been playing NWN without this problem for about two months on this machine and it only ever happens on EfU.

The first instance was in the War on the Dark Lake canal district war; I logged on after the reset,  was fine in the Crone, but both me and UnknownEnderman crashed immediately upon entering Lower. This happened quite a few times, and I was only able to stand around for a minute or so before it crashed again.

Now, after the most recent hak update, it seems to be happening again and more commonly. Both at the Gates and in the Kobold quest I crash once every couple of minutes, and quite often crash immediately on loading the area. This has only been seen a couple of minutes ago so I'm not sure if it's a permanent problem or not.

There's no time-out or anything, just immediately comes up with an error, close program box. If there's anything the DMs or anyone can suggest I do on my side, I'd be really grateful!

Do you have any strange overrides? Are you sure that you're using the correct launcher and have all of the EFU haks?

I'm reluctant to suggest it, but re-installing NWN may be an option. It sounds like there's a corrupted file somewhere!

The only override I have is Arc's reskin, and I deleted all .haks and redownloaded the launcher after the War on the Dark Lake problem; I'll try reinstalling NWN and the loader and will report back here if I still have problems.

Although it has just occurred to me UnknownEnderman had the same issue the first time and he has only EfU .haks and no overrides. Potentially the two issues are unrelated though, we were both also getting some weird time-out stuff during the event.

Thought the problem may be related to my crude manual movement of NWN from C to E drive, have reinstalled it and the EfULauncher, I am now simply unable to connect to the server at all; it either times out or crashes without exception. This has been tested on two computers although one of them was running through wine so that may be the problem.

Has nobody else had issues similar to these?

What you could try is to turn all graphics and special effects to a minimum. "Shiny water" has been known to cause crashes in the past. See if that helps first before doing anything more drastic and work from there buddy.

Sound options.
Graphic drivers.
Make sure your game is not installed in windows folders, as they can be protected.
Moving games around from drives, yeah, that will cause issues, because registry and other stuff does not update.

Could you elaborate on sound options? Completely fresh install, graphics on the bare minimum (no shiny water), was fine spending 2 or so hours in Sanctuary but  I went to the gate and within 30 seconds crashed; now every time I try logging in again at the gate I crash.

miles 2d audio or what not is the most safest option.

Make sure you got all haks / what not required if you have ever enabled them.

Please marry me; hopefully that's the end of it.
