Title: Make Baublium a usable item
Post by: Blue41 on July 22, 2014, 09:29:57 PM
As there aren't many ways for average joe PC to 'waste' baublium aside from forgetting that it's there in their pack, and it is most valuable to the associations/factions that depend on them, and there isn't a method for Sanctuary to waste Shield-fuel aside from the Great Games, I think it would be interesting if baublium could be 'used-' either on the PC or another target. Perhaps it could be crushed/burned/snorted and provide a random effect from a list of magical spells, harmful or helpful of varying levels.

This way, when PC's find a cache of baublium, they might have another option as opposed to handing it over to one of the groups who need it for gold/consumables. In-game it's described as a valuable commodity to many groups, and it could be cool to have that represented right down to the street level.

Mankind always finds a way to make things into drugs. Awesome suggestion Blue.

Baublium has a good deal of uses rather then just tossing it around to various factions.

Also, you must consider that Baublium is like crude oil or batteries. Its a fuel source.

Perhaps an example to clarify, if the world went apocalyptic then they would be akin to batteries. Highly useful power cells that are needed for a lot of devices, but don't have a lot of conventional uses by themselves.

I think its good where it is now, adding a usable property doesn't really add anything to it. But perhaps adding variants of baublium, such as "powdered" or "refined" which can be used as both the fueling variants and as usables for various purposes makes sense.  So it makes certain types of baublium rare and important that can be thrown away by the ignorant or indulgent. Instead of just conventional baublium being used for that.

Because while humanity can turn everything into drugs, I don't really see this to be rather common.

To a certain extent I could see this being a pretty neat feature, but I would admit that there are plenty of uses for Baublium already. I'm pretty sure certain items are fueled by it.

An idea- perhaps make all snirveblin devices (healing devices, armor, weapons) be able to have their charges recharged with Baubillium

^ I like that idea.  I also like the idea of it being a drug that gives you some kooky effects but maybe makes you experience a percentage of wild magic from spells and potions as well. :)

Baublium as herbalism and alchemy reagent.

You bring up good points, but i think a cooler system would be making almost anything into a drug by burning it with a certain item or something.

Maybe a new sort of cooking system that relates directly to brewing hooch, and making drugs, or an item that breaks down things like animal guts, Baubillium, poisons, or other plants into nice little things like junksnuff, or something new.

Baubillium could always be introduced to alchemy or something too, which would give it more value to mages.

If you give more uses for baulblium, then the ammount of baublium around in the gameworld will be more spread out, and thus, lessened in any particular place. This should be considered when deciding any other possibilities--as the more it becomes an arcane currency, the more places it should be able to be aquired.

Maybe you can buy baublium from a scrapper npc for 100-200 gold per bauble? Maybe it the secret places in the machine that house the stuff isn't set to 1/reset, but more like the autogrow overtime of the fey crystals.

More uses WOULD be pretty damn cool, that being said.
