Title: Polymorphed Forms that Can Hurt Chosen
Post by: cmenden on September 27, 2014, 02:03:28 PM
It's time for a self-serving suggestion!

When I polymorph into big bad monsters like Trolls and Umberhulks, the Chosen(and similar monsters) laugh at my pitiful attempts to harm them.

I'm not sure how easy it'd be to do, but it'd be cool if there was a way to either...

a) make it so SF/GSF Transmutation gave you forms that counted as having +1 weapons.

b) make a tool that you can buffs into that will apply when you transform.

c) make it so you can cast buffs on yourself unarmed, and then when you transform, they continue to apply.

I'll understand if none of these are feasible or would be too much of a PITA to script, but it'd be cool to see!

If I remember correctly, having Blur active provides you with +1 equivalent weapons when polymorphed. For a stop-gap you might just want to cast an extended version of that before polymorphing / stock up on potions of it for fighting monsters with DR.

I always wished there was more forms because it's so limited.  Maybe alternate combat forms as well as roleplay forms could be added instead that could harm things with damage reduction but also has a downside like low hit points, armor class, or some other like damage vulnerability.

This suggestion: Cmenden cannot into mechanics.

Cast blur before you shapeshift and you'll be fine.

I've read http://www.efupw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=346 up and down and it says nothing about Ghostly Visage granting +1 in Polymorph forms.

I mean, I'm glad to know that now, but you can't expect me to know an unwritten secret mechanic!

It only grants it because forms that use natural attacks(NPC or polymorph or shapeshifting of any kind - so long as the form uses natural attacks and not a weapon such as a goblin form with a shortsword or something) pierce DR at the same rate as their own DR (if they have any) needs in order to be pierced.

So a creature 10/+1 gets natural weapons that can pierce as if +1 weapons. This same effect applies to buffs, while in those forms with natural attacks, that grant x/+x DR of any kind.

Okay, so NOW I get it. It's not a secret mechanic at all, but rather some default NWN mechanics that aren't spelled out in the spell descriptions!

I knew that applied to Lycanthropes, but didn't realize it also applied to DR granted by spells.

Good to know!

Keep in mind that "natural attack" is not the same as unarmed.

Umberhulk form can make short work of a chosen, just so you know. They most certainly aren't useless against them.
