Well, I know I am either A: Going to suggest something impossible.
Or B: Might get some flak for it.
With the non-existent perma Haste items (Thank god)
I was thinking, perhaps some boots are enchanted to give temporary increases in speed? 5%, 10%?
Perhaps extended to other items as well.
Just a thought.
If you can give an item barbarian speed or monk speed, then this should work.
I meant permanent increases, actually, as long as items are worn.
Charges of Expeditious Retreat is better IMO. I sort of dislike the idea you can take another classes formidable/unique feat just by throwing on an item.
More speed is a -big- deal. Maybe, as unique items.
Speed being a big deal makes me think about pure monk exclusive speed enhancing equipment.
Give them an bit of va va voom, since they're a bit underpowered at the low levels?
(It is possible to make an item that beefs up your speed without adding feats as long as you wear the item. (Speed is an applicable item property, sort of. Even though it doesn't show up on the "Additional properties" when you examine the item.) )
I do not think this is a cool idea, but it is possible. I would be more in favor of the reverse, actually! Boots or other items being 'cursed' to make people slower!
Because then instead of 'Ahahaha VOOM VA VOOM I am really fast, be jealous bitches!" you get "Ohshi ima curst! Need to find a bunch of people to help me now!!!uno!!1"
moar items with properties cursed so they cannot be taken off and stuff
Speed items are very powerful. Stick to hasty retreat/speed charge items, imo.
