It would be really cool if there was Non lockable, publicly accessible persistent containers riddled around the module in caves, forests, at the camps with spawn points, etc.
Private storage is a big deal, Yes. Your stuff is 100% secure without a DM. But Public storage that can be found/looted by ANYONE without a DM, would be sweet. You could stash stuff in a remote location, not having to worry about a reset eating it, though you still take the risk someone else will come by to claim it while you're gone.
It's called an inventory, and no one else gets the goodies inside.
From a different perspective, I think stashes within the wilds would be a good idea. They'd be like little supply caches where friendly adventurers and travelers could contribute to and take from on long treks. I think it could create a greater sense of community amongst the nature oriented characters.
Stash Camping; The nes Sport of the Archipellago.
Also - Pirates!
Despite the potential for stash camping (re: farming), I like the idea as wel. It's a little like having the various garbage dumps around the ziggurat, except they are persistent.
If the abuse potential is too high, one could:
1. Make them hard to spot
2. Require a certain level of lore/ranger/druid levels to figure out how to open them
3. Create stashes of basic goods that are marked as plot items that are just part of the server and RP that they are maintained by the wilderness folk (a few arrows, some oil, a bedroll, etc.). This is sort of like the little camp on the way to the purple crystal mines quest.
That's not too spoilerish, is it? The thing is right there out in the open!
Make them lockable but only at a medium DC if they are implemented.
I second this, if only so I can plunder them and kill those who would use them! Har!
*hums theme from Pirates of the Caribbean*
To Reiterate, nothing would randomly spawn in them, they would require a PC to 'stash' something in them! So you can't really 'camp' them unless you happen to know for a fact that someone has stashed something away.
There is lots of places these could turn up, some obvious and some not. Maybe some of them hidden/requiring a spot check to uncover.
Definately not lockable, though!
Whats to stop someone from trying to lock a chest in the wild with their valuables in it? Of course the DC would be like 20 to unlock.
They wouldn't be chests, necessarily. How many random chests do you see lying around in the forest? Just places that would be generally secure from the weather/animals enough to explain them still being there when you come back, days later (Unless someone else found them!)
Piles of rocks, small holes, mayhaps little crates (at the camps). You get the idea. But not TREASURE CHESTS.
They wouldn't be chests. That's why.
Rabble cruzel beat me to it.
Omg, i cant believe i'm about to say this but...
I agree with Cruzel, this is an awesome idea.
I am now going to throw up. Repeatedly.

Please do not, as open lock is a CC skill for rangers and druids, who are generally short on skill points as it is
