Title: Change scroll prices
Post by: scribjellydonut on April 30, 2009, 12:39:37 PM
I haven't researched 100% on this but just have seen a lot of it IG.  I know the stargazers, for one, sell a scroll of neutralize poison for ~800 GP while at the same time selling a potion of antidote for ~400.  What's the purpose of this?  The only advantage of the scroll is that it can be used on others, but thanks to the barter window this point is moot.  On top of that only a select few classes can even use that scroll, so shouldn't the scroll be cheaper than the potion, not the other way around?  The same goes for remove disease.  You can buy a potion of health for far less than you would spend on a scroll of remove disease(~550 GP).  For that matter anyone with a decent heal can remove diseases with salutory tonics for ridiculously low price of 10-15 GP spent on a tonic.

So can these scroll prices be changed to at least be equivalent - if not less - than their equivalent potion(or other usable by any-class items)?

Yeah, I agree these are out of whack, considering how trivial it is to acquire restore-type loot. It's not like say the Tattoo Shop, where you can buy (in some cases for reasonable prices) a few spells that can fill a gap in a wizard spellbook. They are just expensive consumables.

On a related note, could we see scrolls for uncommonly-used spells like Remove Curse, remove blind/deaf and Ultravision, sold or dropping? These aren't ones are worth wizards learning on levels, but are the sort of thing it's nice to have as an option.

Unfortunetly the prices of this kind of things are fixed by the toolset, and an only be raised, not lowered. However, if the stargazers sold a custom item with a unique ability that would destroy the item and make the caster adquire another item (the scroll) it is doable, and the price can be fixable to anything a DM considers best. I also think the cost for this two potions should lower a bit, or the salutary tonics/ anti toxins should increse.

Well.. you are the cleric. I've never played a healer. But the gap in between the two is a bit large isn't it?

Is it really impossible to do this?  If so I'll just leave it alone...
