Title: Evards
Post by: Relinquish on May 05, 2009, 08:54:18 PM
The spell seems to be bugged. I cast the spell and the creatures made the save, took damage, next round there was no save, infact there was not another save until the spell ended, which did no damage all together.

Its based around the targets AB higher ab targets are almost uneffected by it. The exact mechanics can be found in nwn wiki

The spell has absolutely nothing to do with a targets AB.

It was cast on harpies and charmed sailors, nothing with great AB.

Harpies count as small don't they?

I don' think evards has been modified at all in efu, in fact I've seen it used to great effect, so I'm going to say you just got really unlucky and it's not bugged at all! But maybe I'm wrong!

I'll use it some more and see how the results are, but on this instance it seemed to be like grease, it has 1 save when you first cast it and when it goes to end it has a second save, not one every round as it normally does.

They only make a save if the tentacles "hit" I believe

Edit: Here are the exact mechanics

QuoteA field of thick, 10 foot long rubbery tentacles rises from the ground.  Each is capable of grappling a target doing 1d6 (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/D6%22)+4 points bludgeoning damage (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Bludgeoning_damage%22). If successful, the target must then make a fortitude saving throw (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Saving_throw%22) or become paralyzed (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Paralyze%22) by the grappling tentacle. The tentacles are randomly spread out over the area of effect (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Area_of_effect%22) allowing no more than half of the tentacles to reach a single target in any given round. The inability of the tentacles to target small creatures (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Small_stature%22) makes all small creatures completely immune to the spell's effects.
Also the hidden mechanic (not sure how hidden it is!)

QuoteThe grapple check used to determine whether or not a tentacle hits a target is as follows:
1d20 + caster level (to a maximum of 20) + 4(tentacle's strength modifier) + 4(tentacle's size modifier) versus

1d20 + base attack bonus (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Base_attack_bonus%22) + strength (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Strength%22) modifier (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Modifier%22) + size modifier (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Size_modifier%22).

Forgot the most important info!

QuoteArea of effect:   large (5 meter (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Meter%22) radius), 1d4 (//%22http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/D4%22) tentacles + 1 / caster level (maximum 20)

So ye theres a good chance you just had hideous luck.

It suffers from the same drawback as every round-based AoE spells!

So, the spell is a complete worthless joke?

It means that it only triggers when the target is originally hit.  After that, it will only trigger again if the target LEAVES the AoE and then REENTERS it again.  Other creatures that enter the AoE will be affected once, and then not affected until leaving and reentering again.  This bug affects every spell with a duration area of effect on PW servers.

Why is this a bug for PW servers only? The spell works perfectly fine on non-PW servers, there's got to be a fix for this garbage.
