Title: Diabl0658's inane questions for the DMs
Post by: Diabl0658 on June 14, 2021, 05:51:29 PM
Ive decided from now on all my stupid questions will be asked here, instead of on discord. That way I dont end up pinging DMs who have notifications turned on for #ask-efu-dms.

I dont have a question right now, but later I probably will?

If you were a druid and a member of the Bone Collector's Guild, would it be okay for you to set druid plants inside the Bone Collector's Guild? What leaving undead in the druid faction HQ?

If you have rogue levels, could you also stack traps with the druid plants that function as traps, or does that violate the trap rules?

How many undead can you free and leave inside of druid-grown plants before it's "too much"?

Is it always evil to use children in your bombs?
What about their souls? Is it evil to use their souls?

Question 1: Are we allowed to dye clothes/helmet/cloak in order to make them look exactly like a well known existing uniform? For example, making a custom tailored suit that looks like a Royal Puzzlers Outfit, with a matching dyed cloak and helmet?

Post by: Diabl0658 on June 24, 2021, 09:06:25 PM
Question 2: Would it be against the rules to have an alt PC named "Steve the Tailor" who I only use to hold custom tailored suits, and then talks to the NPC tailors and uses the "model the clothing dummy after what im wearing" option, then logs off. I would then login with my main PC and purchase the custom tailored suit from the NPC.

Its really just to save me clicks on the tailoring menu.

Question 1:

No, that's not ideal if it gets into faction gear. Unless you have express permission on a case by case basis, I wouldn't. If you have supervision we can have NPCs of said Organization react to your guy being a fake.  With stuff like the puzzler outfit, which is more a set design, you could probably wear something of similar colour just fine, but it's better if people can spot it's a fake with minor differences.

Question 2:

I think that would be redundant because you would still have to make the suit to begin with, unless you plan on wearing the same outfit each pc you make, which is not something you should do. It's still a weird and unnecessary Alt PC regardless.

Ha, no. Yeah, people could walk in at any time and then you would need a DM for when you try to run away into NPCs.

Question 5: Are the names of city golems known? Some have very interesting name plates, such as the one inside the old archives, or the others in other places that I wont spoil. Is this IC info or are PCs not supposed to know their names?

This is actually a very good question, in that perhaps there ought to be some leeway here regarding these names. The problem is they tend not to verbalise anything (the Ordo Arcanum attempted to communicate with one and it was a rather amusing and its own way IC educational affair) but their name is usually in reference to whatever task they are bound to almost always with singular focus.

Regardless, the way I approached it personally was to not know their names unless it was explicitly made known somehow. In this way I was able to learn a few names IC such as the golem who used to guard the Courthouse being named 'Though-The-Heavens-Fall', I think that name was first referenced to by the very original NPC Court Inquisitor in an announcement when the role became available for PCs as well as a certain golem in the Wizard Warrens who verbalised a warning that was the same as its name. I agree that they have very interesting names that would be something nice to inquire about and discuss more in-game!

Is it againt the naming rules to have a PC named something like "John the Bandit"? I know titles in names must be properly earned, but does "Bandit" count as a title and can I use it in the name of a PC meant to be an actual bandit?

No, they should have a normal name. They could go by Bandit Jim, but their real name should be like Jim Davidson.

Question 8: can DMs see alarm spells? They are invisible to players, but if a DM for example spawns a bunch of NPCs in an area a PC has cast alarm, would they be able to see it and notify the PC their alarm was tripped several times?
Title: Re: Diabl0658's inane questions for the DMs
Post by: Dredi on August 25, 2021, 08:03:59 AM
My understanding of this is almost certainly not. If you're putting down an alarm spell specifically to interact or detect DM NPC's during an event then you're best telling the DM where you put it and what you're after so they can let you know manually if it pings.

Question 9: Would I need DM oversight to teleport someone into a locked burgage room (and then teleport just myself out) in order to keep them there trapped? Would a DM just possess the landlady to let them out, thus making this a futile way of keeping someone trapped?

What happens during a full damage PvP if an npc kills someone, and no DM was there to witness? Should it be treated as permadeath? Should they be allowed to respawn back in 100?

What if the player intending to kill the one who falls to an npc hasn't actually dealt any damage yet (say they cast a hold person and then a hasted ogre bandit runs over and kills the victim in a single round)?

If two pcs were fighting and one ran into their death by some monster, they could respawn, but ideally should respawn to their body. Otherwise, it's technically fair game to fight around monsters or otherwise.

If it's in service to some kind of legitimate IC plot purpose / rivalry, then sure. If it's just random bored griefing, then no.

Question 13: Is it okay to ask a player OOC for permission to sneak into their quest without notifying them IC, as opposed to getting a DM to facilitate such? For example, a stalker sorcerer sneaking into a ring challenge or even just an every day orcs run.

There is a rule against placing traps on transitions, but im not sure how this ruling applies here:

If someone is teleporting towards me can I place a short duration damaging spell or trap on the spot of their arrival? (and setting hostile all of course)
Title: Re: Diabl0658's inane questions for the DMs
Post by: Bearic on June 09, 2022, 12:56:11 AM
I would say no. The ruling against traps on transitions is to prevent players from being damaged before they load in. If they teleport in, that would also be loading in.

I am sneaking invisibly around a public area with blue name npcs and get noticed by another PC, but I am not looking to start any PvP. I drink a retreat and run out of there, they drink seeing/retreat and chase after me. This PC has previously expressed an intent to kill me or one of my known associates in the past.

I am not aware of any DM oversight, but for all I know the DM may have given the other player a go ahead to engage via PM (this has happened before).

At what point can I (as an example) use my Power Word Stun scroll to escape pursuit? Before they close the distance to melee? After they knock me down on the first hit (this is typically what happens to me)? Should I assume PvP has started when they begin chasing me or only when they roll to hit?

As a spellcaster the difference of a single round is often the difference between life and death, so its helpful to know ahead of time rather than being left to guess right in the moment.
