Off-topic Discussion / Retirement of UnholyWon

EFU:A DMs and Players,

Greetings, I first begin playing NWN on the CoA server, and created one of my favorite character named Tiver Neehigh back in 2002. I was dragged into playing NWN PWs by a great friend of mine SevereMeltdown, who I lived with also in Oklahoma. The very moment I hit play and created Tiver Neehigh I was hooked. When I wasn't going to school, work,or playing a PnP D&D game with friends, I was playing NWN.

It wasn't long before Howland had created EFU and started the Alpha and Beta testing. SevereMeltdown told me of Howland's creation, and I fell in love with EFU instantly. I still think on the moments past the first loading screen and spawning into the deep underdark, and then sprinting to the city known as Sanctuary. All characters started as ex-slaves running for their lives to survive the dangers of the underdark. It was a thrilling experience.

I was infatuated with the underdark ever since a good friend of mine, now just a memory, introduced me to Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and R.A. Salvatore. I was 16 years old then and now one year from calling myself 30. I recall my imagination was struck by a spark that sent my world aflame with possibilities.

My first character on EFU was a Mindi Davis who was a monk of Shar seeking entrance into the local order in the underdark. Mindi's friend was... the player was PanamaLane, I don't think I recall that perfectly right. He played a slaver, and cleric I think. Him and Mindi had a disagreement outside the Order of the Dark Moon. Mindi ran crying for Sanctuary, the DM gave Mindi a chance to kill her friend and potions. The underdark is a dangerous place and that was my very first PvP, I lost.

Since Mindi I've had many supporting characters that helped plots move further. I've assisted handfuls of new players, and have enjoyed watching their plots develop and even taking part as support, or helped iron out the rough parts of plots or applications.

I have made many great friends here on EFU and EFU:A, and I have very fond memories of the stories, characters, and areas we've discovered together.

It is with great sadness and best wishes when I say I must retire from EFU:A and NWN. I have to focus on my family, work, and Masters program now.

To Howland thank you and the DM staff that have participated in producing such amazing and unforgetable stories over the years. I take my hat off to you.

To my friends and players, thank you for including me and joining in on my wild, insane, and mostly unsuccesful ideas. I've enjoyed a lot of laughs, tons of frustration, and tearful happiness.

To EFU, a simple thank you.

To the future new players, remember you make the world. Also its just a game, an amazing and sometimes life enriching game.

Love you all, and you can still reach me on the forums, and I will pop onto IRC when I can. It is with hope that I leave now only to return in the future. If athletes can come out retirement so can NWN players.

Peace out,

Will Womack - UnholyWon

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Mr. Johnny Pander
May 13, 2010, 09:17:37 AM
This character was created on Monday, April 5th, 2010 at 03:49:46 AM.
Since creation, this character has logged on and off 113 times.
The character has spent 3 days, 20 hours, 11 minutes, and 31 seconds online.

Here is ends for Pander. The lovable baby eater, but never did so IG. He had a lot of things in motion but never got to finish it all out. So is the way for evil planed-touched. With all the demons floating around the place I was surprised he lasted as long as he did.

Thanks to everyone that made him special! Wcsherry for helping me create him and being there at the end, which is sorta weird. Calculor for helping me run those amazing tournaments, for a short time the Hanged Goblin was a rockin place. To Diz-e for being around to quest with, to Ramn's player thanks for helping a brother out, DRD you helped so much with getting the Hanged Goblin rockin again, thank you, everyone in the Black Parish it was a blast, and also Alyssara and Capricious thanks for the awesomeness!

The Hanged Goblin is a blast, I had a great time bringing people to Gobsquat. Now screen shots.

Meeting 2 Even more plans

Meeting 3 Monsters United Plans

The funniest conversation Pander ever had.

Shortly after the conversation Graves gave Pander a taste of his whips. It stopped once they figured out Pander was enjoying it way to much.

Before the end Pander, his hunter found him earlier, then Buttercup found us, and then Pander's hunter found him again. Ouch!

Pander's character portrait.

Thanks again to everyone.

Currently, Gobsquat and the Hanged Goblin Inn has been a jumping place as of late. Plenty of tournaments, plenty of plotting, plenty of evil and nefarious acts being committed in and outside.

Sadly there is only one employee, and no one else to share the secret inner workings of the Hanged Goblin Inn with. There are tons of plots currently moving slowly in the Hanged Goblin Inn and Gobsquat.

Also I am not able to hold tournaments during prime gaming times for everyone during the weekends. It sucks that I can't bring in more players and spread the awesome Valara loot that she has brought out to the players who had the chance to participate. Hopefully some one can send in their application and start putting together weekend tournaments.

All the DMs have been extremely supportive in watching Gobsquat thrive once again. Thanks especially to Calculor, who has done an amazing job in watching the show.

I'm asking people to put in their applications! Join the Hanged Goblin Inn faction and evil.

My character, Johnny Pander completed the quest with a score of two, but did not recieve anything into his inventory even when it stated that I recieved an item into my inventory.

Bilby didn't give the character anything.

Update:

Nevermind, in reviewing my inventory I did find a new. There is no bug here.

Bug Reports / Tiefling Subrace no Darkness
April 05, 2010, 10:28:36 AM
When I created the character wcsherry approved the race, had me log out then log in. The tiefling stats took effect on my characters sheet as well as the skills, but I'm missing the token to use the Darkness spell. Relogging and logging in did not solve the problem.

When I use the wand of ooze, Dragon Breath acid, it is pixelled to hell. I have no idea what is causing this or how to fix it.

Also I've been having strange lag that literally freezes me 15 to 30 seconds, making it incredibly hard to quest or be anywhere near effective.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Here's the basics of the machine I'm running.

Guardian of the Stewards of the Ark and Windrider of Shaundakul Nikolai "Niko" Dhaminar is sadly no more.

A bit of History, Niko grew up in the Cormyr Kingdom outside the town of Tyrluk in a small farming village. Niko had a mother and father, his father was a hunter, tracker, and scout of the wilds and devote follower of Shaundakul. Niko also had 2 brothers and 3 sisters, a rather large family, he was the 2nd oldest.

Niko fought in the Goblin Wars briefly, as the town of Tyrluk was sacked and everyone retreated to Eveningstar. Niko became seperated from his family, but made it to Eveningstar where the war followed him. Niko was almost slain if not for the unusual compassion of a goblin warrior. The goblin warrior did take Niko's eye in their fight, but decided not to kill the warrior. Instead the goblin warrior hid Niko away, and knocking him unconcious. Niko was later taken as a slave.

A few nights later a team of scouts snuck into the camp Niko and many others were being held. Niko, although thankful to the Goblin for not taking his life, did not return the favor in kind. Niko instead stole the opportunity of surpise to savage plug blade into the goblin warrior's back several times.

In Niko's escape the Mythallar picked him and transported him to the Ziggarut. He believed himself cursed for his actions of betrayal that he holed up and became a drunk in Gobsquat. Some time later, he picked up the blade again and joined the Stewards.

Thanks to everyone that made this character a blast to play. MindMaster, Ommadawn, Caster, Gwydion, Twelve, especially CrazyNut (FleetingHeart), Ix, and absolutely everyone I interacted with. It was awesome.

This character was created on Friday, August 28th, 2009 at 09:35:39 PM.
Since creation, this character has logged on and off 228 times.
The character has spent 8 days, 12 hours, 18 minutes, and 33 seconds online.

In the beginning just lounging in the Stargazer Village.

Crazy wizard and his summons, one of the many looks of Niko.

Experimenting with screenies.

Niko and Kitty, found it out of its cage. So I took it out for a night on the town.

Niko and Vifur, fun interactions.

One of Niko's goals was to gain the trust and fly on the back of the Great Eagle. When Niko accomplished this I cried, a little.

Niko killed tons of Rats and never took damage. :D

Niko could lay out some nasty crits, so he was on fire, he was on fire!

Leged helped Niko out a lot, and I mean a lot.

This glitch landed me a really nice screen shot.

The Feather of the Great Eagle. Best piece of DM loot ever, for me.

I intended for Niko to use this blade as a gift to Shaundakul by making it into dust and giving it to the winds. Bummer.

This is likely my favorite screen shot, although CrazyNut snuck in and the out before the screenie could catch'em.

Suggestions / Rogues and Trackless Step
January 07, 2010, 01:10:06 PM
I'm unsure if this is hardcoded, or if it can be scripted, or whatever. I've been thinking that it would only be right if rogues recieved trackless step in city areas, because they have studied moving thru these ares without ever being seen.

Such areas are there natural grounds, and thus the +4 competence bonus would make sense. I wouldn't recommend it being granted at level one but perhaps at level six, especially for the purest rogues.

Any thoughts?

So late into my graveyard shift, it has come to me how does one play a transvestite character?

Does one solely base the character on the ability score of charisma? A high charisma allows for the character to be far more believable, allowing for higher bluff and persuade skills.

Does a person build the character and invest in Skill Focus feats of bluff or persuade?

Even more puzzling, what character model does a player use? Does a player use the male model, showing masculine features while using the discription to explain the character's choice in lifestyle? Or does a player use the female character model to show the feminity of the character, while describing the tale, tale signs of the characters actual masculine nature?

Also should such a character require an application before creation?

I understand that I may not be applying all likely variables, but these are just my initial inquires.

I bring this to the community of EFU:A, your thoughts?

General Discussion / Scripting Newbie
December 12, 2009, 01:27:50 PM
Help! I'm a newbie when it comes to scripting for NWN. I've played with the toolset and I'm now venturing into scripting. So far I have been unable to effectly get any script I've made to work.

What I'm looking for is trouble shooting resource links, or just some insight.

Thanks

Bug Reports / Missing domain
April 28, 2009, 12:11:08 AM
I checked EFUSL, my EFUSL character sheet for Gaffer Griffinburp has the Travel domain, but my IG character sheet displays that I have both the Travel domain and Trickery domain.

Every time I try to cast a spell I get the [Divine Spell Failure] etc...

Shield Fox bites the dust. He's been around for just a bit and it was a blast to play him. Sadly I'll never finish mapping the whole server with him. Thanks to everyone I got to play next too Sandstorm, Caddies, AfroMullet, Winston Martin, and many many more! XD

This character was created on Thursday, February 26th at 10:32:53 PM.
Since creation, this character has logged on and off 141 times.
The character has spent 4 days, 16 hours, 36 minutes, and 29 seconds online.

Fox vs Fifth Level, it was a pain in the arse to get past it and actually him past it.

Fox vs the Evil Plan, this is where Fox plotted and stored his many maps.

Fox vs Easy Prey, actually that little bugger was a pain in the arse. Still easy prey though.

Fox vs Proverson, Fox was very loyal and protective of his employer. Then again, he had to be... >.>

Fox vs The Neat Screenies

This has to be one of my favorite screenies. This was during my first attempts at exploring with him.

Fox vs The Drow, this is absolutely my favorite screenie.

Thanks again to everyone! Fox had mapped 37 areas of the server before his death. He would have had more XD

The Twelve Teachings of the Dawn Warrior

Strive always to aid, to foster new hope, new ideas, and new prosperity for all humankind and its allies. It is a sacred duty to foster new growth, nurture growing things, and work for rebirth and renewal. Perfect yourself, and be fertile in the mind and body. Wherever you go, plant seeds of hope, new ideas, and plans for a rosy future in the minds of all. Watch each sunrise. Consider the consequences of your actions so that your least effort may bring the greatest and best reward. Avoid negativity, for from death comes life, and there is always another morning to turn a setback into a success. Place more importance in activities that help others than on strict adherence to rules, rituals, and the dictates of your seniors.
-Dogma of Lathander, Morninglord

Foreward

In this text I bring to you my experiences, thoughts, insights, and retrospects. I will attempt to assist and guide you through the mediations, ethics, and combat techniques of a Dawn Warrior. I will assist in giving you direction where I had no direction when I first came to the islands of Ymph.
I am no priest, so I will not spend time on the dogma or the semantics of the Morninglord’s faith. I will refer to the dogma of the Morninglord to provide prospective in the text in reference to a Dawn Warrior.
To be a Dawn Warrior, is to see the Dawn even in Darkness.

Lesson One

“The Dawn Warrior exists in all of us. When we strive to perfect our mind and body, we foster the growth of our Soul, here resides the Dawn Warrior.”
-Dawn Warrior Father Ahmere Sha’Duth

I understand now that the Dawn Warrior resides in each person. There are pieces of the Dawn Warrior in the actions of every day people. The farmer that tends to his crop, his knowledge of the plant grows with each year, his strength grows with the caretaking of his crop, and his soul grows with the harvest of his crop. The farmer’s mind, body, and soul show growth in his accomplishment. This is a simple understanding, and just a piece of the Dawn Warrior.
In my early years of training, Father Ahmere Sha’Duth was assigned to be my educator. Each morning before dawn I was awoken. Father Sha’Duth would shush me, hand me a pail, and have me fetch water from the lake nearby. I would take up the pail and rush out of the monastery quickly and as silently as possible.
The way to the lake was through the courtyard, out the gate, and down a long staircase. You may want to picture the trail from the top of the Mountains of Mist to the Great Falls. I bound down the steps as quickly as my feet would take me. I experienced a few tumbles in my youth, but would arrive at the waters’ edge just as the Morninglord would arrive. I did not notice the glorious sun’s rays bathing the world in a most picturesque scene of light. My pail was in the water, filled to the brim, and I was rushing back up the stairs as quickly as my feet would carry me. The water in the pail sloshed out and over me, then to ground. I would arrive at the top of the staircase with the greetings of Father Sha’Duth, he would smile peek into my bucket and chuckle.
â€œMy son, did you give praise to the Morninglord?” Father Sha’Duth would grin knowing the answer.
â€œNo Father Sha’Duth.” saying as my shoulders sank and head drooped.
Father Sha’Duth only would smile and lift my chin and speak quietly to me. “My son let this not be seen as a failure. You were concentrating and determined to finish your task quickly. You did only what you knew to do. I am proud that you followed my directions, and I am proud of you. In your task you became enveloped, and became only distracted from seeing the larger picture. In your rush to receive praise, you missed giving praise to the Morninglord. In your rush see the joy you would give me, you missed receiving the joy the Morninglord wished to give you. In your rush to bring water to the brothers, you return with no water. I am proud of you my son, because you allow me to teach you.”
I wasn’t actually sure at all what Father Sha’Duth was talking about, but his next lesson was for me to return to the lake, praise the Morninglord, fill the pail, and repeat the Dawn Greet Prayer as I returned.

Lesson Two

“The essence of the Dawn Warrior is transformation. What was then now will be reborn before the Morninglord.
-Dawn Warrior Father Gregor Matthews

Lesson Three

“Who am I? This is a question we all must ask, and learn this question shall never be answered. I suggest having a sense of humor, and not taking one’s self to serious.”
-Dawn Warrior Father Mychus Sharpburr

Lesson Four

“The Dawn Warrior does not believe in death. The Dawn Warrior believes only in rebirth. Giving power to the negative of darkness drains the power of the positive of light, the light is within you.”
-Sunrise Lord Isaiah Hythorn

Lesson Five

“A Dawn Warrior’s consciousness is a universe that exists everywhere. In mediation we learn we are just ripples of energy in a vast ocean of energy. When a Dawn Warrior is attuned to this energy, then he reaches enlightenment and is aware of both ripples coming and going.”
-Dawn Warrior Father Samuel Pinker

Lesson Six

“The door to perception is ritual cleansing. Purge yourself of the toxins of the world, devote yourself to the purification of the mind, body, and soul. Prepare for the transformation.”
-Old Father Nissic

Lesson Seven

“Courage my son, the light is within you.”
-Unknown

Lesson Eight

“Witness a new Dawn, witness the Dawn Warrior awakening, and rejoice in the rebirth of a brother.”
-The Greeting of the Dawn Warrior

Lesson Nine

“Protect all against the Darkness, but be ever watchful of the Darkness within yourself. Embrace the Darkness within with the light and warmth of the Morninglord, and know you are protected.”
- Dawn Warrior Father Ahmere Sha’Duth

Lesson Ten

“Explore the world and the knowledge the world offers, but always remain devoted to the teachings of the Morninglord. We are his children, we serve his will.”
-Dawn Warrior Father Mychus Sharpburr

Lesson Eleven

“My Son, trust your heart and soul, there the Morninglord resides.”
- Dawn Warrior Father Ahmere Sha’Duth

Lesson Twelve

“From death, life. There is always another morning. In the dawn, beauty reigns, and the way is clearer.”
-Old Father Nissic

For those who knew of Mutt, he died doing what he did best, killing vermin. I only have one screenie of him, strangely enough something told me I should take a screenie.

Here is Mutt, along with the others who may or may not of survived.

Bug Reports / Bat Quest
September 25, 2008, 05:27:09 PM
In the bat quest, in the second area of the tower, the two transitions are switched backwards.

The transition leading to upstairs to the 3rd level actually leads back down to the entrance area, and the downstairs transition actually leads upstairs.

It was a little confusing, and really funny once I figured it out.

I hope this makes sense.
