In the future we may open the option to start in Lower for everyone, but for now the setting is not in a place where we desire it. Though as LiAlH4 says, if you have a concept that you feel is pertinent to starting in Lower, or anywhere else for that matter, feel free to try to apply for it.

Anyone is welcome to add information they believe useful to new players buried in the history of the forum to the Player Compendium. (it may be there already)

We don't always get a chance to thank people for their contributions, but the DM team is sincerely appreciative of efforts that help new folks.

This topic has served the purpose of explaining why DMs often do not bother with alignment changes pretty well. Just a mess.

Alignment changes are usually among the most unimportant numbers in EFU, regarding mechanics and story both. Unless it's an actual shift, which generally only matters in the case of falling from a character class, or losing the ability to wield an item, or something along those lines. This would give you a unique path to pursue... atonement, despair, whatever. This might already obligate a DM to observe you, without the need for a caustic response. It will be what you make of it, but again, they're just mostly pretty worthless numbers to us.

Of course, those who claim to enjoy alignment changes, or have a character who is pursuing a story in which they feel their alignment really has an impact somehow, are welcome to note such in a Personal Character Notes thread, and I'm sure that interested DMs will consider it. =)

It goes without saying that DMs can do some special things and so forth in noticing/aiding new players. Though, I would probably argue when thinking about it, that in many instances I could be in a better position to mingle and help new players get involved as a player myself.

That said, we could make a system, scripted or otherwise, etc. to reward players who took on apprentices, but in reality it is very easy for us to both notice when a player is taking their time to help a newbie, and reward them appropriately, if not already rewarding enough in itself to help someone in need and possibly gain an ally/friend in the process, or even simply helping the server as a whole in welcoming new players.

A DM has put very considerable effort in fine tuning the balance of this quest already. In its current form it can be somewhat challenging, but certainly not overly so, as those above have pointed out.

As for the lore, I can definitely agree, and wouldn't mind seeing it be more accessible. I wonder who can do this in a reasonable and flavorful manner? There might even be a reward, maybe.
