*spank*  I'm not really around, but here's one solution to your mac woes, which I've been posting on all the servers I've played on, since I just discovered this over the weekend:

1. I downloaded a copy of nwn diamond edition from gog.com -- it's just under $10

2. installed Crossover Games from Codeweavers.  Ran all the installation stuff for nwn using Crossover (just follow the instructions).

3. Located the new C: drive that Crossover created in my Library directory to find all the nwn directories.  It's under Library > Application Support > Crossover Games > Bottles > setup_nwn_diamond.exe > drive_c > Program Files > Gog.com

(Seriously, why is it buried THAT deep?  And Bottles?  What is that? )

4. Dragged and dropped all the haks, erfs, tlks, portraits, and overrides I cared about.

5. Edited the nwnplayer.ini and nwn.ini file  (you want to disable the entry movies, as they will not work).  Dropped my old CD keys into the nwncdkey.ini files.

6. Hoped I did everything right...

7.  Started up nwn with a smile.

Hope that helps!  Good gaming, and I might drop by again.  (See, forum trolls aren't always a bad thing!)

Loved the little rp tidbits we had.  Hope to see the next one soon!

I'm not sure of the frequency of this, but I've been here since September, and this has happened to me two, possibly three times (one incident might have been a disarming AI, the other two were clearly looters).

I haven't been in many large-scale DM events, but I still remember the first time it happened, when I was pretty new, and I raged in private until a veteran player took matters into his own hands and spoke to a DM.  The DM did locate my gear and grabbed the stuff from whoever took it, but it took a lot of his/her time and mine to sort it all out.  I think if it hadn't been resolved fairly well and quickly, as a new player, I probably would have raged and either made a new PC or moved on to someplace easier, because I hadn't been hooked by EfU at that point.

While I find this last incident pretty annoying (my gold, buff pots, bow, ALL my scrolls and gems, and various other items not in bags), there are other things that make me rage more than this.  I'm actually somewhat amused the thief didn't take the bag of healing wands and potions or my bag of once per day items.

Back to topic though, I think even adding an extra description to the loot message akin to "X_PC acquires Y_object from Z_PC's belongings" would lend some more IC consequences for this happening in large scale battles.  Otherwise, you can't always tell if someone is looting from a dead NPC or a PC, if they're being selective in what they take.   Just a thought.

Edit: The above change would also help DMs find who does this sort of stuff by sifting through the server logs... which may be more effort than you care to expend, but you'd at least know who the culprits are.

My barbarian doesn't run because she's always encumbered... and she's lazy.  I love just strolling up to things in battle or hanging back and throwing axes or goblin dung or whatever random thing she's carrying.

Seriously though... this topic made me lol.

While I think that Ivor's death at the seige of Blackhearth would have certainly been more dramatic than a quiet death elsewhere, I'm a bit disturbed that people are being called out for what they did in an IC fashion.  (No, I was not part of that group.)  Would there have been an issue if an assassin was hired to kill Ivor and/or his men, one by one?  What if he died to a horde of stargazers cannibalizing him?  Why are none of these suitable endings to an interesting story?

While I commend players who create interesting events and pull others into those events, I think we're treading in a dangerous area when you assume those players / PCs should be immune to the hazards everyone else has to face (death by wild animals, assassinations, etc) for the sake of a building story.

I actually find the charisma deficiency rather amusing, on top of the flies animation.  They're sewers!  If you want to go down there, you should protect yourself from getting nasty diseases.

Oh, points to the PC who I've seen walking around town trying to contaminate others.  Too, too funny.

Good luck, Germain.  It was a pleasure -- you really brought some things to life for a number of us.

I avoid Gobsquat like the plague.  I encourage all other gobbo-haters to do so as well.  Maybe if we boycott the place, their trade-based economy will shrivel up and they'll all die to the pestilence that surrounds them.  Yes.

Good times.  Shame Viktus didn't send Zayhan on more crushing the infidel type errands!

Having played a crossdresser on my last server for something fun and frivolous, I'd say go with the model of the original sex and then use the descriptor field, voice set, and clothing choices on top of descriptive emotes to let people know what's going on.  Be ready to have people roll eyes at you for being over the top or different, but that's just the way it goes.

As far as skills, I'm not sure what to recommend since there's no disguise skill here.  If you think you're a different sex, even if you're not, it's not quite bluffing.  Persuade, maybe, if you care about having others believe you.  Or don't dump any points in either and simply appear delusional to everyone around you.

Enjoy!  I know I had lots of fun with mine, though few took her seriously until they found out why she was crossdressing.

And yes, the whole male / female elf ambiguity was precisely what I played off of. :D

You get a free snuggle from a Shargass disciple, I think, but you'd have to talk to a DM to claim your prize.

Welcome, welcome!

I'm interested, though as stated in IRC, I'd rather we not limit ourselves to one language.... though we might want to use a standard compiler for certain languages.

I have to say though that I'm starting up classes again this semester (after having been on leave last semester), so my time might be fairly limited...

I'm mechanically challenged, I'll admit that, so my poor PC dies a lot. I don't mind it (that much), but I would love to see more difficult quests that will accommodate smaller groups without having a barbarian tank. Playing in the late hours (and I'm sure the Euros playing during American mornings can sympathize) and scrambling to get a third for your party who makes IC sense and then having to do the same easy quests again and again is getting rather boring, and although I try to come up with different excuses to do things, eventually I'll run out.

I'd love to see more quests, harder ones, that groups of 3 or 4 can do in the lvl 5-7 range. From what I've seen, there's a lack of diverse lvl 6/7 quests that don't require a large group or a massive tank. Maybe I just don't know the server well enough, after having been here a few months, but I'd like to do other things than Jergals, gnolls, harpies, and oozes when I hit my lvl 6 ceiling.

Raising the xp rewards would be helpful to encouraging us to quest-train less and rp more, of course, but additional content is also a viable option! Also, in case I haven't said it before, kudos to the builders. I find the dungeons well-designed -- I'm just greedy and want more of them.
