Kot, Eddie, NGLD - thank you.

I found the file, made the changes and will try things out later today.

Really appreciate you guys taking some time to help me out on this.

Kot,

I'm wondering if messed up my ini file somehow trying to add the new spells, or change my windowed mode or something?

I vaguely remember trying to do something that changed my ini file and wonder if that is why I can't find it now?

Quote from: NetherGonnaLetYouDown;292224Wireless is 100% part of your lag problem. Fact is, wireless is never fully solid and constant stream, it will lose packages and nwn does not like losing them one bit. It will freeze and wait until it can catch up with packages, as it has that 30 second timeout window, before it even attempts to disconnect you.

NAT doesn't really cause lag, it just usually either works or causes a block in connection, for example for IPTV boxes. If your connection works, don't think about that.

Easiest fix, play through wired connection when you play games. Wireless can never reach 100% package stream, it always has it's up's and downs and will jump in speed and connection. In normal programs it does not matter, but games are constant stream of package back and forth, and if something lacks, the game has to wait and catch up as it has the missed package re-sent.

So there is NO way to correct this for my son who plays XBox360 on the wireless?

You have to directly connect a cable for every game device?

Quote from: Kotenku;292222Open nwnplayer.ini and find the line Client CPU Affinity=

Set it to read Client CPU Affinity=1

Report back afterward

All right.  I did a search and can't even find that file.

I tried looking manually through the C: -->  Neverwinter Nights --> NWN folder, then I'm not seeing it.  Is it in a subfolder?

I see an ini.bif in the data subfolder, but I can't open it.

Can go to IRC if you prefer...

I've changed the visual options from the entire range of "Best Quality" to "Fastest" without any change in these issues.

Surprisingly, Spiff is taking the contrarian POV.

What's your definition of fine?  Do you regularly run those quests with your PCs?    Or do they jump at the chance to kill harpies or werewolves?

In my opinion, I'm never going to do those quests again unless there is a really good IC reason to do them AND I'm with a shit-hot party that is nails on everything.

Which again, IMO is a shame - because they are both a challenge and are fun.

Easy quest, rarely die = low payout.  Fine.

Tough quest, occasional death = great payout.  Fine.

Tough quest, several deaths = low payout, why would anyone do it?

I suggest that these either be toned down in some way, or the payout is increased.  People don't mind the risk of the lizard quest or Kants because the payout is worth it.

If a quest like Muskroot's or the Dreadmistress is so close, and people aren't doing them - there's a reason for it.

I appreciate the considerate responses of the DMs in this thread to a legit sentiment that I'm sure some of us have once in a while.  Kudos for not being defensive and taking a patronizing or annoyed tone.

Being more active and visible might lead to a DM "getting sucked in" as they said, and prolly asking via Tell, PM or IRC about the little things.

Making sure you make note of the personal goals and what you are doing in the Personal Character Notes prolly helps too.  Not saying you aren't doing this, but keep at it and it MIGHT pay off.

But - just like life - sometimes you do everything right and it doesn't work out the way you like.  And that's just the way it is.  We feel you though, bro.

Plum, holler at me IG and we'll go rock some junk.   :D

PS...

There's a REALLY good chance this company might end up learning about a dragon cult and join up to restore their ranks...

Quote from: Talir;279544If you are really rocking out on a concept that keeps you in one place a lot, and really provide that additional charm and contribution to the gameworld - it's entirely possible to receive CAB xp beyond level 6. We are not going to implement anything for remaining in an inn though.

I just think its a shame that there is almost never anyone inside the Inn, and I also have zero interest in playing a PC that tries to get people into the Inn for more business - before someone makes that suggestion.

If there is a negligible XP bump that makes being in one place slightly more attractive than another, I just thought it would add to the atmosphere of the server in general and stimulate some RP.  Definately not trying to get more XP for my PC for RPing in the Inn.

This would seem to be preferable than everyone hanging out at the Square or Muskroot's tower to try jump onto a quest-train, but it also seems I'm in the minority and that the DMs have spoken, so I'll quit banging my head on the wall.

Quote from: putrid_plum;279511Will I get free xp for hanging in the Eyrie?  If so I'm all for it!  But seems silly to gain free xp for hanging out in a place.

We get free XP until L6 no matter what you are doing.  So the precedence is already there.

Guessing so that characters don't have to grind quests to advance to a survivable level?

I just think if you make a small benefit to being inside, then you'll see a bunch of characters inside the Inn instead of standing in the Market Square at noontime in a tropical environment in full armor, or during a driving rain.

More PCs is an area, then more RP.

Also endorse!

The RP is well developed with some effort by Staring Death to research or create the dogma of Mystra, which IMO gives the concept nice depth and a believable character.

Off-topic Discussion / Tech help please!
June 20, 2012, 01:49:54 PM
I have two very annoying tech problems that are almost making me feel  like quitting EFU:M.   I'll try to put as much of my hardware/software  as I can in the next post for clarity's sake.

PROBLEM ONE:

At  various times, my drive keys (Q, W, E) don't operate correctly, or seem  stuck.  This causes my character to turn around in circles indefinitely  until I click on the dialogue box which usually seems to end this  "seizure" state.

Unfortunately, I am unable to access my  character or inventory screens, use a hotkey, or even use the Shift or  Ctrl keys until I click on the dialogue box.   As there is no visual cue  this is happening - in combat this can be deadly to my poor little PC.

Also, I can't tell if I can't use my keyboard because of this issue, or whether its...

PROBLEM TWO:

Lag.  But it's on my end.

During  game play, there will be sporadic periods where everything freezes from  3-5 seconds.  Last night it was when my PC was running across a poison  gas vented corridor that required good timing to navigate.

Needless to say - FUGUE.

I have what I think is a fairly decent computer purchased a year ago.

My  somewhat tech-savvy (but only 12 year old) son thinks its due to a  problem with our wireless router.  He experiences the same issues in  online gaming such as Halo and all of the Call of Duty series.

He  thinks its related to something called NAT, which I don't have a  fucking clue about.  I know that it stands for Network Address Transfer,  but that's about it.  We also don't know the password (bear with my  ignorance) to reset it, because I don't even remember setting one or how  the hell to enter it.

Could BOTH problems be due to this NAT issue?

I  just bought a new keyboard AND mouse, and the problem hasn't been  corrected.  I'll buy whatever I need short of a new computer to address  this.

In short - HELP!

Suggestions / Muskroot's Tower Quest
June 18, 2012, 04:39:01 AM
Played the Muskroot tower quest for the first time today.   It's a lot of fun, but it seemed REALLY tough to me and I'm not sure the payout justifies the cost of massive supply usage and the high likelihood of character death.  And my PC was the only one that didn't die, so this isn't sour grapes.  One pretty good player of a good PC perma'd, and I think we all hated to see that.

The AC of the one of the common spawns and the final boss seem really high.

In addition - Whatever that quest is in the Old Stones where thugs are barricaded in is pretty reasonable, until the final fight.   A powerful boss is cool, but it seemed to spawn WAY too many grunts for a party of 3 and what I thought was a decent party got wiped fairly quickly.

I know there are some players and DMs that probably disagree, but personally its hard not to avoide these quests until they are either toned down a bit OR the rewards are jacked way up.

Don't know if there is any way to track what quests do or don't get done very often, but it seems players rarely do these two quests and for good reason.

Which is a shame, because both of them are pretty cool.
