Screen Shots & Obituaries / The Thread of ZODEN
November 01, 2016, 05:54:17 AM
The mighty and terrible villain Zoden has been vanquished by the returning heroes of Sanctuary!

It was one hell of a ride. I'd never tried the necromancy system before and I fell in love, and in the process gained a new appreciation for the wilderness and villainous PCs who never enter Sanctuary. It's a real struggle out there. Thanks to everyone who made playing Zoden so much fun on both sides of the law, I enjoyed every minute of the interactions we all had. Stay strong out there all you openly evil PC's, wildlings, and exiles!

The Core Concept:
I had been wanting to play a weirdo that thinks he's a god since I came to EfU, but back in EfU:A I ran into a character who said he was the god of mud so I decided to wait, and with the introduction of the Relic Guardian I thought it was the perfect time. I wanted an entertaining PC who could have a dogma that really grabbed the attention and made him stand out, and so Zoden was born.

He was a gnomish priest of Gond on Lantan who brought his family to Amn during a gnomish burst of midlife crisis. Almost immediately upon arriving the dread attacked and conquered Athkatla. With his family enslaved he escaped and fled into the countryside surviving on his faith until Gond's death. Forlorn and heartbroken he found shelter in a house which had once been the meeting place for a cult of Cyric. and accidentally glimpsed the pages of a Relic of Cyric made in homage to the Cyrinishad he found himself afflicted with a spell of insanity, but his divine magic restored! He took to the world believing he was destined to follow the path detained in the few pages he glimpsed, and become humanity's one true god. Fortunately he found Sanctuary, and the rest is history.

Screenies:
I never remember to take screenshots with any of my PCs but knowing Zoden's life expectancy was short I nabbed a few!

Zoden drinking with his Bonework Legions in Thomas' bar. While he never managed to get himself many allies his undead armies were always there to listen to his insane ramblings and help capture adventurers to steal their shoes, bedrolls, and other assorted garbage. He was the classic gnomish villain with zany nonsensical schemes, delusions of grandeur, and a powerful urge to prove himself as the greatest threat to Sanctuary.

Zoden's first defeat of many because he'd attack pretty much everyone to spread his infamy and gain the legends he thought he deserved. From the moment he could animate dead he'd spend most of his time wandering looking for people against who he could commit evil in his own name. A proud moment in my time here playing on EfU as Zoden's suicidal charges against massive groups of questing adventurers gets him some praise.

Zoden's unholy and magnificent stats for you all. Not too many people willing to tolerate his antics, but on occasion he found some people willing to ignore (or support!) his quest to conquer Sanctuary with an army of skeletons and turn it into Murdertown 2.0. I decided early on that Zoden's craziness meant he could only ever take levels in Cleric of Zoden for better or for worse. I highly recommend trying out a Relic Guardian some time, it's a unique experience unlike anything I've seen in EfU to date and it can make for some amazingly different concepts and hours of fun.

Obligatory loot screenie that got cut off before seeing the minuses. He had a few other kick ass bits of gnomish DM loot but I forgot to nab any screenies. For the most part it was all usable by good aligned characters only in typical ironic gnomish fashion. Big thanks to the DM's who supported Zoden's goofy adventures as he struggled to rise as the Skeleton King of Sanctuary.

His death tossed into a chasm like Darth Maul by the forces of law and justice, which couldn't have been more fitting. An epic struggle between good and evil like I'd always wanted for the cartoonishly black and white character. I've blacked out those present for spoilers and stuff, but it was great getting the chance to be your antagonist for a bit, and I hope you enjoyed our interactions as much as I did.

Zoden, without his helmet, waving goodbye with his fleshless legions as they set off on their next adventure. A little post mortem Zoden pic I whipped up. I know I'm no Ixion or BTH but I had a lot of fun making Zoden's insane little doodles of the epic conflicts he had with Sanctuary.

Thank you to everyone who made Zoden such an entertaining character to play. From the characters who tolerated his crazy preaching to the good aligned heroes he battled with your interactions made this one of my favorite, if brief, concepts to date. I'm glad I got a chance to rock out with you all and I hope to see you on my next PC.
