FROM THE DESK OF LEGATE LHYRIAN

Hello good Scribe!

This is Legate Lhyrian. I have been informed that some manner of strike is current affecting the workers of the Quarry. A number of other rumors have reached me, too. I wish to determine the truth of things.

Could you look into and report back to me information on the following:

1) The demands of the strikers.
2) The current conditions on effects related to said demands (Living conditions, wages, provisions, workload, etc)
3) Has the Foreman been treating the workers well?
4) Are there other conditions that have caused low output of stone beyond the strike?

With sincere regard,

Lhyrian

FROM THE DESK OF LEGATE LHYRIAN

Hello!

To put it simply, it is the product of miscommunication.

Multiple reports were made of your presence near the fire, as well as near sites of the two prior incidents. I asked for statement to be secured, politely.

I did not ask or approve of a detainment, or a search, but simply a statement.

Let us meet and discuss the matter at length, and chart a path moving forward.

You have my apologies for the inconvenience caused by this overreach of the Legion's.

With sincere regard,

Lhyrian

FROM THE DESK OF LEGATE LHYRIAN

Lothere,

Edmund Lothere
My work was once rebuked by the League of Gold for something so debased and simple as 'punish those whom work harder to earn more.'

Edmund Lothere
Tell me, are those laborers at the Quarry, hauling stone for twelve or more hours a day, to only make twelve dinari going to fall under this criteria? Is it the sign of a more diligent heart to behead a few goblins for five hundred dinari per hired hand, than to strike the earth for your lavish diets?

Edmund Lothere
The day we realize this unfair divide in society's hardest workers, is the day we move forward. Take care for those whose skill falls in labor and the crafts, and not the sword, and we shall prosper. Soon they will have enough, and swords do not feed people.

Revise the above transcript. As well as your prior statements over the Bellows.

You clearly want change. As luck would have it, so do I.

Talk to me. And let us work something out. The near constant sniping at my League is growing tiresome.

Lothere,

Talk. To. Me.

Twice I have bid you to do this, that we may discuss ways to enact real and meaningful change in this ailing city. And twice you have opted to caterwaul over the Bellows in some misguided attempt at playing the populist hero.

This is the third time I make the offer.

Get your fucking act together and reach out for a proper talk. Or write to me. I really do not care, so long as you do something productive, you washed up fop. You have the ear of two Legates. Take advantage of this.

If I have to sit through another bout of your drunken rambling in spite of repeated attempts to help you, I am going to find you and break your bloody hands. Then I am going to flip a coin to decide if I should break your jaw as well.

You are very annoying, and not in the pleasant way.

With waning regard,

Catalina,

As recent events showed, the die for Arslan was cast well before any of this. No sense lamenting what was and what could have been.

Attend to me in my Office, and we will determine a course forward. The sentiments you echo are shared.

With sincere regard,

A long-winded reply is sent, writ formally, but with an unsteady hand.

FROM THE DESK OF LEGATE LHYRIAN

To the Most Exalted Servants of His Sublime Magnificence
Addressed with profound respect to:

Siursum Avak Res, Serene Majordomo of the Ecstatic Terrace
Ghur-Utal Pasha, 'Mekelglim', Fifth Undersecretary of the Extant Adliye
Azmir ibn Kalam, Secretary

Most Distinguished and Illustrious Servants of the Eagle Chair,

May the light of the Mother shine upon your words and deeds, and may the blessings of B'aara flow as freely as the waters of Ephia's Well itself.

We receive your counsel with humility and gratitude, recognising in it the wisdom accumulated through the golden ages of Baz'eel's magnificent civilisation. Though we of Ephia's Well may indeed stand at the periphery of our Sultan's resplendent domain, we aspire to conduct ourselves in a manner befitting those who have been granted the honor of his patronage and protection.

Let it be known that I, Legate Vellyn Lhyrian, having consulted with my fellow Legate in solemn conference, shall indeed summon before our Assembly the representatives of Jaiyan Ibn Sharev, Emir of Kha'esh. Upon the appointed day, with all ceremony and dignity becoming of our station, we shall pronounce our objection to their continued possession of Arslan—that jewel which you have rightly named the Bronze Wadi and the wellspring of the Tutelage. We shall, with clear voice and steady gaze, demand its transference from their keeping into our own.

In this most delicate of matters, we shall follow the conventions you have wisely prescribed. Our words shall carry the weight of our conviction, yet be tempered with the grace of diplomacy. We shall speak of deep sentiments and righteous demands, while maintaining the dignified reserve that befits representatives of His Great Sublimity, Osman the Sixth al-Maribid.

Rest assured that no mention shall be made of the numberless Legions or their stern power. Such unrefined allusions would indeed be both uncivilized and tactically imprudent, as your wisdom has cautioned.

We approach this momentous duty with full awareness of both the glory and the burden of the mantle we have assumed as satraps in service to His Sublime Magnificence. As instructed, we shall make offerings at the Temple of B'aara with uncovered feet, and we shall meditate deeply upon our newly claimed station and its profound responsibilities.

May our actions bring honor to the Sultan's name and further the righteous cause of unification under the benevolent embrace of Mother Baz'eel.

With unwavering devotion and deepest respect,

I remain your obedient servant,

Vellyn Lhyrian
Legate of Ephia's Well
