To the esteemed Legates,

As we discussed, a breach in the outer structure of the Tampt Crypt, worn by time, has rendered our holy burial vulnerable to those who would seek to enter and desecrate our dead. Already signs of trespass, tampering, and disturbance among the tombs are evident. These are not yet desecrations, but they are wounds in the bones of the earth, and I fear worse will follow if no watch is set.

I therefore propose the following:

  • That two guards be stationed at the breach at all hours, their presence to deter the villainous and opportunistic, and to give warning of any threat to the tombs within.
  • That the position of Cryptguard be raised, to oversee the well being, provisioning, and rotation of these guards, and to serve as the vigilant eye and hand of the faithful at the crypt. This post shall be filled by one both seasoned in combat and in service to the Gods, appointed by a Preparator and both Legates.
  • That the Cryptguard be granted right of intervention, including the use of force, against any who enter the crypt unlawfully, or who remain within without sanction. Such intrusions are to be treated not as missteps but as violations of sacred ground and affronts to the Brothers both Living and Dead. The guards shall be trained in the Grace of sacred service, but firm in their Judgement of the unworthy.
  • That the Cryptguardian maintain record of all incidents, repairs, and expenditures relating to the breach, and report monthly to the Scribes.

Let it be understood that this is not merely a defense of stone, but of the very memory and dignity owed to those that have made their final journey down the Edutu. The placing of these two guards and the rise of a Cryptguard shall serve not to mend stone but to reinforce trust in the protection of sacred death.

A neatly folded parchment sealed with the mark of the Brothers upon it, finds its way to the offices of the Legates.

To the Esteemed Legates of Ephia's Well,

In my duty and under the order of Zatchlas Haffam, appointed mouth of the Sultan and voice within the Sepulchre of Themselves, I, Preparator Tariq Salah, do bring to your attention a matter of great concern and sacred urgency.

The Tampt Crypt within the Maqbara, long held in reverence by the faithful of the Wheel and the Twindari alike, has been compromised. A crack within its wall now serves as a breach through which both foul creatures and men of ill intent may enter. The sanctity of the dead lies at risk.

In only days past, a dear friend of mine gave his life defending that very threshold from some unknown horror. I fear what he stopped may yet return, and enter the Tampt Crypt.

By the will of the Sultan and in the name of the Brothers both Living and Dead, I ask that you see the wall restored, that no more spirits be disturbed or bones stolen for wicked means.

May Kalim see your deeds, and Gamil know the weight of your spirit.

A great character, the only Janissary I ever trusted, I think he lived through me playing three different characters.  Awesome job!

Correspondence / [A letter to Jazar Bazan]
June 05, 2024, 08:31:37 PM

Jazar,
Included in this letter is a copy of the contract we went over the other day in the Maqam.  Please look it over and send back any issues you have with it.  I do not think there are any surprises, but I am always willing to work with you in making this a productive agreement for both of us.

The terms of your employment are as follows:

  • The Protector is tasked with ensuring the safety and security of the Twindari, the local Maqbara, and any other local gravesites. This includes defending against any threats or disturbances that may arise.
  • The Protector shall assist in retrieving and transporting bodies to the Maqam with minimal damage. Care and respect must be maintained throughout the process, in accordance with the sacred practices of the Brothers.
  • This contract will remain in effect from the date of signing until terminated by either party with a notice period of one week.
  • The Protector will receive a weekly payment of 250 dinar for services rendered, to be paid on the first day of each week, unless paid in advance.  The Protector will receive a bonus of 100 dinar for helping recover or inter bodies.
  • The Protector is expected to conduct themselves with honor and respect, upholding the values and traditions of the Twindari. Any behavior deemed inappropriate or disrespectful may result in immediate termination of this contract.
  • The Protector agrees to maintain the confidentiality of any sensitive information related to the Twindari, the Crypts, and the deceased.

Again, if you find anything you have an issue with, please let me know.  Otherwise we can schedule a time to meet in person and have it signed.

Fruit, bear your works,

Preparator Tariq Salah

To the Torchbearers,

I am writing to request your services as explorers and cartographers. I wish to undergo a sacred pilgrimage to the waters of the Edutu and require the expertise and protection of your adventuring group.  In this, I would ask that you take part in providing all necessary travel provisions. As a servant of the Twindari, my skills lie in spiritual and ceremonial practices, not in the logistics of travel and survival in the wilds. Therefore, I rely on your expertise to ensure our safe passage.

At this time I would wish to bring along two additional members.  I have not made certain who they will be, though I would like to take one other faithful of the Wheel, and one scholar.  This is up for discussion however.

The current terms of our agreement, companions or not, are as follows:

1. We require your protection throughout the journey, ensuring our safety against any threats we may encounter.

2. All food, travel supplies, and necessities must be provided by your group, as I do not possess the knowledge or means to properly prepare for such a journey.

3. Upon reaching the River Edutu, we must stay at the water's edge long enough for me to perform a crucial offering. Your protection during this time is essential.

4. You will be compensated a sum of 10,000 dinar for your services. This amount reflects the importance and sanctity of our mission, and is of such an amount to cover any expenses outlined in the second provision.

Your reputation as skilled adventurers precedes you, and I am confident that with your guidance and protection, we will be able to reach the Edutu.  Please send a letter back with any questions you might have.

Fruit, bear your works,

Preparator Tariq Salah

Dear Aunt Umil,

I'm thrilled to share that the Legates have formally endorsed the agreement.  It is, in full, what you requested in your first letter.  Additionally, I've included a provision for the placement of Gamil and Kalim upon the Stele at the war's conclusion, as per your suggestion. I've contacted several locals who are eager to contribute, and I'm excited to see the expansion of the Maqam take place. Please write back when the Geomancers can be expected.  The scales righten as this plan comes to fruition!

Fruit, bear your works,

A letter is send this time to the Adliye of the Martyrs, addressed to Avukat Umil Salah.

Aunt Umil,
I am sorry to report I have hit a snag. The Legates (the two of them serve as Ephia's leaders together) are unable to sign this document as you have provided it. It is a tight time for the budget of the Well, and with the main focus of their coffers supporting the oncoming war, I am told this arrangement will 'incur various bureaucratic and other costs for the state.' They have requested they receive a suitable contribution of dinari to the state's treasury, the exact number being ten thousand. Though the next bank is far, I am loath to deny their request without first sending word to the Adliye. I will receive any letter sent to the maqam here, or a direct delivery by terracotta will not be unwelcome.

Fruit, bear your works,

Reverend Wulouq,

I'm adjusting smoothly to Ephian life, though it's quite the departure from the mausoleum. The people have treated me fairly, and I've already made a few friends in my brief time here. It's apparent that my work is needed, given the rumors swirling about mistreated bodies, primarily attributed to a specific group. I intend to look deeper into this matter.

Today, I had a discussion with a Legate and conveyed Hakim Haffam's directives. It seems they are open to establishing an office in the hall of jurisprudence, though I framed it as a place for "oversight" rather than "compliance."

The Legate I talked with cautioned that bodies might be arriving by the hundred. If you could provide assistance, it would be greatly appreciated. If not, I'll manage with the resources at hand. Specifically, I believe a geomancer would be valuable in expanding the maqam to make room for the deceased. Additionally, any legal texts that could support my role would be welcomed. I suggest extending this request to my aunt as well, if possible. Reverend Bekele is kind and capable, unlike the local Preparator.  Far is the next bank.

I trust you're faring well. Please send my regards to Fdiz, assuming he hasn't been thrown out...

Fruit, bear your works,

Tariq Salah, Preparator of The Twindari

Legends of the Hunt:
An Illustrated Collection

Before you sits a collection of papers on various large game in the area.  Though the descriptions seem accurate, the handwriting is poor, and the pictures might have been done by a toddler.  Aren't some of these creatures already named as well?

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Ahma Urzhad: The Mama Bear
December 14, 2021, 05:21:12 AM
Ahma was a bear stuck in a dwarfs body, or at least that is what she believed.  Ringrunning with a group of druids in her past, and more recently with a few groups, Ahma traveled the rings for most of her life in the city.  Wielding a fish in combat, Ahma sported armor that drew the attention of both pondsfolk and Peers alike.  Beautiful, dangerous, dumb, Ahma was a blast to be.

Thanks for playing with me.  All of the druids who played with Ahma, old and new.  My ringrunning pals in the Blazing Hearts.  The Pondsfolk who hunted with Ahma and Fish.   Ahma's best friends, Tiktika who has been her companion through countless adventures, and  Marleigh and croc who chased unicorns through 36 rings.
