I wanted to leave a post somewhere so here's  a good place as any.

A lot of you know me from other servers over the years bla bla.
The journey to RPing in NwN was a fun one with its ups and downs and really helped me get through a hard time in my life when i lost my father due to a car accident.

But i think now like most people of my age (36 now) have to move on from the game. I have met people and made friends here who have married and now have kids, families etc. Moved on but i still keep in touch.
So why the goodbye now... after so many years?

Nowadays i don't have the time i had back when i was in college of course. RPing requires a vast amount of time.
I even think of my characters and their plots even when im not playing because im a creative mind that like to create stuff.
The time i rather spend doing other things. because NwN takes up all my free time.

EFU has been for me the last bastion of good RP and the only remaining server i even wanted to play and the low level / perma server that im used to play but despite the initial appearances EFU seems to require just much of your time.
You need to grind for gold and potions to ever hope to be relevant in a very fast paced storyline that when you dont play for 2 weeks everything is different and you have no idea what is going on.

I can't find a niche of playing something laid back that will give me fun. I am an evil character player exclusively and evil here requires a ton of time investment to be PVP-ready all the time.
I can't find my niche and fun every time i try to play on the server i am forced to go all out on grinding  and its been a long while i was able to do any open evil RP.

I want to highlight my most favourite and best moments from EFU v5 and v4.
The best fun i had on v5 was when i played with Thomas Demon Cult wizard. One because i could play an unhinged Chaotic Evil Changeling Necromancer and be openly evil with a reliable group.
The best fun i had on v4 was with KreShar necromancer cults.  My friend. I hope you see this message sometime and im glad we got to meet each other ingame one last time before i quit.

The golden era of NwN is no more, but i wish EFU as my second favourite server ever, after CoA good luck and hope it still has a lot of years ahead of it.

Goodbye my friends and i wish you all the best of luck with your lives first and foremost.

(Also fuck i got tearful., fuck sake)

General Discussion / Re: PvP Ethics and EFU v5
July 28, 2020, 07:21:30 PM
I just checked all the replies and i now read them after all this time even though i'm not actively playing at the moment and the foreseeable future.

I think the problem with the server at the moment is summarized as follows.

People will do /anything/ to win and that includes a lot of exploits and underhanded OOC tactics. I have witnessed it multiple times with people transition ganking, switching hostility to avoid summons then attacking the summoner when in face-to-face range hostiling again, and druids exploiting plants that i saw on Discord. and other things i can't recall now that im sure i will if i start grinding my mind, i had someone steal from me all the time fully invisible time and time again (extra lame when you get PP'ed and you can't react and just lose some gold) because what's the point of stealing if there's no RP involved?

Someone said in a reply "I said hello they said hello and suddenly two people attack and loot me"
~~ This is a consequence of people Win no matter what mentality that is destroying the RP on the server and that is exactly what im talking about.~~

At the end of the day it all depends on the characterization of the characters involved. Sometimes if you're playing a bastard of a PC a more heavy hand incurred. Other times things are more understanding.

One thing to consider and while it isn't the pinnacle of fun RP, is if you get PVP'd to do what I like to call the Hans Gruber Defense.

In the film Die Hard this terrorist mastermind was confronted by a rogue out of jurisdiction police officer on the roof and one of his first responses was to just start shouting "OH, OH GOD ITS YOU, YOURE ONE OF THEM, DONT KILL ME DONT KILL ME" and curling up on the ground fake sobbing. A large amount of more seasoned PvPers tend to take a heavier hand if you run your mouth after getting PvP'd swearing revenge or talking shit. However if you grovel, apologize, weep, debase yourself, feed their ego, etc they are quite content to go lighter.

Ultimately though EFU is about telling a story and everyone can benefit from taking a beat and separating themselves. The best advice I can give is everyone should try to play a Villain type PC at least once.

After experiencing the ups and downs be it necromancy, crime, demon work, a changeling, or what have you it helps broaden your horizon to how hard it can be for villains in the world at large when The Mob on their heels or just how isolating and miserable it can be or a litany of other problems the generic "Ha ha me and the BOYS are MERCENARY ADVENTURERS" type concepts just outright do not run into.

Conversely everyone should try a Paladin at least once as well so they know how hard it can be to push an agenda against the entire typically CN/NE server.

Shifting PCs, trying PvP and losing, trying PvP and winning, finding new and creative ways to get PvP victories beyond "GIMME ALL YOUR GOLD AND SOME OF DEM JUICY HASTE POTS" etc.

I always give this advise to people to keep their cool and play it out IC. If someone beats the crap out of me i RP being beaten and miserable. People usually respect that and we have mutual PvP fun.

But thank you for this post. You worded my woes better than i ever could. Wish i could switch my OP post with yours :P

General Discussion / PvP Ethics and EFU v5

Brief introduction that i never did.

I've played on EFU v4 for a few months before Enhanced Edition hit the shelves but i didn't like the UD setting so i didn't stick around. I was there for the glory days of NwN like i don't know 15 years ago? blah blah blah.

On to the point.
I made this thread to gauge other people's opinions on what is  the state of pvp in EFU v5.

My main gripe is that pvp is now feels much more stressful than i remember it on EFU.

I used to run with high risk characters all the time in EFU v4. I joined every necromancer cult there was , i joined the Ooze Cultists etc.
I also did a character of Ibrandul's cult

Shoutout to Kreshar for making all those necro cults for me to join because i love necromancy :P

Point is i did a lot of pvp and i don't remember any particular instance that made me stressed out or worried. I was havng /fun/.

Why you may ask?
Even when i was the victim of banditry people just took me some gold maybe a potion or two and in the rare case an item that i had in my inventory.
A lot of the time people would be content to just gloat and i would emote bring hurt properly and limp away. Things would usually resolve for the time being.
I had fun even when i was losing.

I remember two particular instances. I was a necro with undead out. I stumbled into a 4 man party and they chased me. Subdued me and they didn't even take a thing from me. But gave me a stern lecture.
Another one out of the top of my head. Came to a disagreement with a guy and we fought. Beat me and dragged me to the Spellguard to have a trial and i was exiled because i was a necro. They took an amount of gold as a fine but otherwise it was fun.

They didn't cripple my character and i had a meainngful IC consequence and i was also allowed to keep playing before i get FD'ed at some point.

Now i've seen quite some bad karma pvp going around and it just makes me concerned that if i initiate PvP for character reasons the opposing side will just dry loot me or get all my gold just to spite me OOCly to cripple my potential to play my character or just force me to sink meaningless time re-farming all my items / gold.

I've seen even people threaten out in Whispers to Dry Loot and FD people and it just makes me wonder.
I've also noticed a turn at people using optimal spell combos and invisible ganks to try and win no matter what.

I don't know. I don't remember being the victim of invisiblity ganks before. Maybe i didn't play much? Though to each their own. I suppose i don't have a right to complain about builds.

Generally, i want to engage in more pvp for storytelling purposes but the potential of dry looting and OOC spite targeting kind of dampens my mood for it.

These are my thoughts.

General Discussion / ARedRose Small Gods Thread
May 03, 2020, 01:49:26 PM
I had a few ideas for custom Gods and wanted to share it, i want to keep a megathread here with all my ideas and any feedback. I will be updating as i flesh out my thoughts.

For now it's mostly a write up without too much thought of domains etc.
Also expect a lot of evilness here.
Hope you like them!

The Coven (small goddess of witchcraft, alchemy and herbalism)

Titles:  The Witch, The Coven
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Domains: Spells, Chaos, Magic
Favoured Weapon: Sickle

It is said that once there was a coven of witches that unlocked such esoteric knowledge that were elevated beyond physical form and became an immortal entity, a council of voices that all try to speak and commune as one. Those that dabble in alchemy and arcane secrets often try to seek out The Coven or offer a prayer when they mix their herbs and components hoping for some intervention or divine guidance in their efforts, or to simply avoid the whimsical Coven to make their work blow in their faces.

The Coven lurks around every cauldron, alchemical table and herb, watching. Sometimes only one voice is heard from the Coven, reaching out sometimes many, sometimes it's twisted and evil and sometimes appears benging and good.

-------------------------------------------------------

Note: I had a very similar idea to Loops but this i think is a more Arthurian twist.

Nythis (small Goddess of Oaths and Conviction)

Titles:  Lady of the Pond
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Domains: Water, Law, Retribution
Favoured Weapon: Greatsword

In the waters of ponds and lakes, there is a story about a lady lurking in the deeps listening to the oaths and conviction spoken. The Lady of the Pond favours those with true and powerful convictions and oaths. People are led to Ponds and lakes for the Lady of the Pond to hear their convictions. Potential liars and oathbreakers often are left there tied and immobilized and theres rumours they are pulled into the waters and drowned, often times reappearing as hungry undead, trying to atone for their lies and false conviction or simply that they Lady of the Pond revealed their true sinful self.

Sometimes these undead are put out of their misery, but sometimes from the more twisted and vile devouts are kept as slaves to force them attone for their lies and sin forever.

Clerics and devouts often speak their conviction when the lakes and ponds are calm and serene so that the lady can clearly hear them. Legend has it that when the Lady of the Lake truely favours you, a sword will submerge from the sea offered to you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Zisdia (small Goddess of vain beauty and self-serving narcissism)

Titles:  The Mirror Goddess
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Domains: Charm, Nobility (thinking on the domains)
Favoured Weapon: Mace (Scepter)

Behind every young maiden's mirror and reflection are the watchful eyes of the Goddess. The Goddess watches the beauty of the world behind each mirror and reflection. It is said that the origin of the Goddess is the vanity and pettiness taking a form and will of it's own. The most beautiful (As she believes) and most petty of all she detests all things ugly. Only through beauty people can achieve success and happiness and have what they want. Ugliness should be eradicated or enslaved. Troglodytes, trolls, ugly kith they should serve their betters, be eradicated or kept away from sight.

The devouts and clerics often wear their best and cleanest attires, when addressing The Mirror Goddess and ask for her boons lest they draw her ire.

Shrines to her have mirrors so the Goddess can admire the beauty of the place devoted to her name by most devout.

Couples and young maidens and beguilers seek out her favour, as well as Knights who want to impress their Lords and court ladies and become majestic.

There are a lot of RP forms a changeling can utilize to avoid danger available. As a witch for example you can reliably turn into a girl.

But the fact that your name shows predisposes people.

I think it would be a huge boon for people that can shapeshift to have a random or even static name assigned to them temporarily while shifted so that people don't know "Oh look it's a little girl but it's actually Mary Doe, the changeling witch".

If people want to murder a little girl or an animal that looks like an NPC named "Falcon" its all fine. That are the risks of being poly'ed into a chicken or bird.
