CAN YOU SPOT A DOPPLEGANGER?

Dopplegangers, Shapeshifters, Skinstealers, Agents of the Enemy! They could be walking among us even as you read this security advisory! For the safety and stability of our civilized society, read the following so that you can possess the knowledge to identify these insidious threats.

KNOWN DOPPLEGANGER CHARACTERISTICS:

1. They look just like us! Yes, you cant just spot them with your naked eyes, sometimes even magic cannot outright detect them. Only through noticing the subtle differences in behavior between them and their replaced victims can you catch them in the act before they carry out their diabolical mission.

2. Memory Abnormalities and Partial Amnesia. Has an old acquaintance forgotten who you are? Do they have unexplained or poorly explained gaps in their memory? Are they lacking certain bits of common knowledge that anyone else ought to possess? Or even worse, the opposite, perhaps they know of certain things/events they couldn't possibly have knowledge of! It could be a sign that the person has been replaced by a doppleganger!

3. Unexplained Absences or Kidnapping. Have they been gone a long time with no explanation? Perhaps they were kidnapped some time ago, and somehow "managed to escape" and have now returned no worse for wear? Dopplegangers often need time to study and assimilate their victims before they are ready to replace them. Such absences are typical for doppleganger victims.

4. Changes in diet. While on the surface a doppleganger might be able to perfectly mimic the forms of humans, dwarves, elves, hins, and to a certain extent gnomes, underneath the surface they are twisted grotesque monsters! And their diet will often reflect such! Do you know someone who eats far more than their neighbours, who can tolerate eating strange things like raw or undercooked meat, and other dietary abnormalities? It could be the sign of a savage metabolism hidden from view.

5. Heat insensitivity. The demon rages over our heads, lashing out at us with its evil rays of infernal heat. Good folk will shield themselves from the sun as it rages above them, but the doppleganger is made of different stuff. Lizard and orc skinstealers alike are resistant to its cruel gaze. Does your friend seem to be perfectly fine standing unprotected under the terrible sun? Perhaps thats not your friend at all, but an agent of the enemy!

6. Sudden promotion to a Position of Power. While by itself this is nothing to worry about and is the sign of a well functioning society, this is often how the doppleganger infiltrates the higher echelons of power so that it can do the most damage. Pay attention if this coincides with any of the other well known doppleganger signs. It may be a sign of multiple doppleganger infiltrators working in tandem!

Armed with these Doppleganger Facts, you will be able to spot the infiltrator before they are able to do damage. If you see something, say something. Report any suspicious actors to your security officer. Don't wait until its too late!

I hope that you will forgive me for my lack of correspondence until now, but I'm afraid your previous letter was not worthy of any response at all given its lack of any substantive statement of fact. However, I feel I should address a few points with you now.

Firstly, it has come to my attention that you have chosen to direct your recent communications directly to the members of the Sagebrush Scouting Corps, bypassing the legal representation established explicitly for this purpose. I must remind you that as the legal representative of the Sagebrush Scouting Corps, all communications regarding the matters at hand should be addressed through my office in Baz'eel. This protocol is not merely a formality but a crucial part of ensuring that all discussions are conducted within the bounds of legal decorum and jurisprudence. Bypassing this established channel not only undermines the effectiveness of our communications but may also be seen as an attempt to circumvent the legal protections afforded to my clients. To maintain the integrity of our interactions and the legal process, I insist that all future correspondences be directed to my office in Baz'eel. This will ensure that your communications are received and responded to in a timely and appropriate manner, respecting the legal framework within which we are operating. Failure to adhere to this protocol may lead to a formal complaint for improper conduct and interference with jurisprudence. Secondly, as to the success of your "turning the Janissaries eyes", while you may have managed to waste the time of the Sultan's 4th Legion I feel I must highlight that there have been no criminal charges against my clients since the time you have "returned to your duties", as you put it. The absence of any formal accusations or findings of wrongdoing stands in stark contradiction to your assertion of uncovered "dirty laundry". I would also ask that you forward the specifics of this "Tower Artifice" you self-admittedly have aimed at my clients. Given the relatively high mortality rate within your organization as a result of non-murder related causes, the safety of my clients after being exposed surreptitiously to such artifice has now become a chief concern.

Thirdly, as for your claims regarding a Janissary's claim of signage, please forward to my office a copy of the Janissary's report and name, as well as a copy of the exact wording written upon the offending sign. You have my assurances that the matter will be investigated promptly.

It is crucial to contextualize that The Tower, or the Astronomers of Q'tolip, while recognized as an accorded association, does not possess any legal jurisdiction or authority over the citizens of Ephia's Well, particularly those such as my client, Elias, who maintain no affiliations with your organization. The presumption that Elias should submit himself to an association exiled from Baz'eel, and therefore lacking any legal standing recognized by the Sultanate of Baz'eel, is both inappropriate and legally unfounded.

Kroggnought died as he lived, killing the enemies of the Sultan.

He was my first PC here at EFU, I figured I couldn't go wrong playing a big hitter barbarian and he was very much the walking stereotype of one in my eyes. I feel like to all of you he was so much more than that though, so I thank all the players and DMs that helped him come alive. Especially you Karpie for signing me up for the Janissaries, that was so much fun I will definitely be making another in the future!
