I feel like people forget this command exists.

I think originally this would check if someone was currently poisoned or diseased, and that was all.

Since we have so many more addictive substances in the module now, how about expanding the tool to detect if someone is suffering from withdrawal or under the influence of drugs? Maybe based on heal + spot.

Then add an option to do a more thorough and invasive check that could be resisted unless subdued or unconscious to determine what the substance is, based on heal, lore and herbalism ranks.

Detection of supernatural or outsider influences should still be handled through RP.

Physician rogues could also get a bonus to the check.

QuoteFive measly dinars? I'm done with digging. There has to be a better way.

They're probably laughing at me at the college.

Quote from: a memoryLaughter. Mocking. Oh, little knife-ear learned himself to read? Oh, little broom-pusher stole a scroll? Oh, little halfbreed thinks he can wiggle his fingers?

I showed them. When the scroll crumbled and I felt the energy flow out, they never laughed again.

Such power.

Strange they didn't kill me for that. It weren't any nonsense like self-defense or justice. For a slave to disrespect a magus, or channel magic himself, that was scandal. Instead I got hard labor, loss of access. That was brutal, but not deadly. They didn't starve or torture me. Politics. Who am I?

I need a crew. Henry's been a good partner. Kid follows me everywhere, and I feel like I ought to keep him on the right path.
We need a third though, a mage, maybe. I could entice one with the scrolls I've found. I've got some real doozies too, by the looks of them. Gotta find someone that is both competent and isn't going to run off with the loot. And maybe someone local, someone who knows the desert.

Maybe we should join a banner, get some training before we strike out on our own. Not much we can do without a voice, so let's add ours to the ones already saying what we're thinking.

Gave Henry a reading for fun.

QuoteI carved myself a pair of bones to pass the time. That fella Buster invented his own game, now he's making a name and getting it out there. I should get a deck of cards, maybe work out a gimmick. That could set me up somewhere comfortable.

QuoteI signed up with some folk I'd never met before to go into a den of the lizardfolk - Melek. Started off okay, but then our front line dropped and the rest called it quits. Had to use a scroll out of my go-bag, grabbed whatever we could and ran. Mostly junk.

We ran into an ambush in the canyons, took a bump and they left me for dead. Woke up in the maqbara, Stonefolk preparing me for burial. Apparently they drag people out of the desert all the time.

Saw the mage's body unclaimed and in the crypt the next day. Poor kid deserved better.

You need a proper crew to do board work. To find a crew, first you meet people and do something basic like travel somewhere and back, or hunt some beast. Get used to each others' styles before jumping into their dens.

QuoteWent to try my hand at nines. Almost won that pot. I asked who the local god of luck was, but didn't get a straight answer. The moon? No one? One of the Sages of Il Modi? As the scholars would say, two magi, three opinions.

I'm not getting anywhere with the College. And I think the astronomers want something more than someone with quick hands and some flash. Where else could I go?

Surely there's a power out there that can change my fortune?

QuoteI tried giving some rube a reading. They'll tell you anything if you say it's "for research."

Dear Esteemed Sir,

It was a pleasure to meet you. Do you need an assistant? I would be happy to help you with your research and to work on publishing your newsletter; however, the administration does not recognize true genius and are refusing to accept my entrance exam results. Could you perhaps put in a good word for me?

Sincerely,
Villama Pon Shikar

QuoteI tried going out again. At least I found some places to sleep if my luck or money run out.
I stumbled on a sharpish rock. when I pulled it up, it turned out not to be just any rock. It had a some strange patterns or marks on it, not natural and definitely old. It seems like there might be some interest in it.

I tried going out further. I fell into a hole but I was overwhelmed by spiders. It took much of my supplies just to get out and I had a couple of close calls.

I'm thinking about applying for the college. Maybe I can find shovel or broom work for someone who hates sand. Pushing a broom is honest work, and maybe I can get a first look at whatever we find while 'his smugness' can sit in a tent and get to know the camel or something.

(A crude drawing of a person wearing red robes behind a camel. The human is saying "Take my magic missile!")

QuoteI don't know if I was being brave or foolish but I thought taking a walk along the outside of the walls in daytime might be low risk.

I saw some interesting sights, grognaks fighting something, a beetle, a caravan stop, a granary, a couple of temporary camp sites.

My luck ran out when something threw a boulder at me. It got worse after that - orcs, a tiger, some kind of scorpion man. I managed to leg it back to the walls.

I tried to apply to the college but they all but laughed me out of there. The cost of an archaeologist's license is out of my reach too. Maybe I could try to be an assistant archaeologist? An assistant to an archaeologist? Most of the students there seem allergic to some elbow work.

I wonder, maybe if I find the right scroll or potion I could fake my way through the exam. Then, opportunity!

QuoteI was down by the well's surface when on a whim I decided to dip my cup in and have a sip. As I did, I felt a strange thought, as if something tickled my nose or the back of my eyes. The feeling left as quick as it came. I wonder if I have another drink, I'll get that feeling again and maybe I can get a clearer understanding of the message. But I worry it'll be something like 'dive into the well.'

Maybe I should stick to the water from the fountains or the bottles. Perhaps time away from the source dulls the effects.

The well is deep, but there's no fish in it. Where is the source? There's fountains all over, and where there's water, the living gathers. Where there's no water, you find the dead.

Quote from: A memoryScamp once said, 'shit flows downhill'. He showed me once where the pipes lead and what fed on it. I had to burn those clothes!

Quote from: A memoryThe mages were in fierce competition to find something new. 'Publish or perish' was the way of the Khazark. Working them was easy, empty their trash bins, sweep their broken vials, dispose of the failures, piece together the notes, copy the sigils.

Paranoia made them sloppy and their egos wouldn't let them admit mistakes. Two dozen wards on the top of the box, but none on the bottom. It was so simple, but when you always tie your shoes with a cantrip, you forget how to tie a knot.

I need access to a library. The College and the Astronomers seem to be places of learning. I've been around mages long enough to recognize the trappings, and my blood is elven, or at least most of it is. I wonder if it will be enough.

QuoteMerchants are the ones making the coin, but what do they get the goods? Are they the ones going out and risking their necks for it? Or are they scavenging them off the bodies of the ones that do?

Never a merchant among the runners, that I remember.

QuoteI never needed to be sneaky. Wizards hated being snuck up on, and they had all kinds of wards against it, so it was pointless. It was far easier to hide just by acting like you belonged there. The Waterdhavian was easy to imitate, and the idiot red mages refused to use it. People worked faster if you said it Thayvian, and others would suddenly find somewhere else to be.

Out here though, I wish I had some skill. Seems I can't get out of the city without an escort. Even in the gutters, the worms or worse find me.

QuoteI have arrived in a strange land.

Not sure how I got here. My head hurts and the drink doesn't fix it.

My body is familiar. My ears, my beard, my scars in the same places. Strangely, I have all my teeth again. I have my memories, my dreams. Beshaba provides, or provided. Her last cruel gift.

Strange coin, called dinar. I suppose the coin of flesh and blood are the same.

Some things are familiar. The ground is ground, the air is air, fire burns, water flows. What comes up must come down. The Planar Lab's cleaner, Ford, said the planes followed the same basic rules. Rules of the core, he called them.

Thay does not exist here, or perhaps no longer exists? The first thing I did was shave. It felt good.

QuoteStrange times. This is the 7789th year in their reckoning. The months have new names. Do they have seasons?

A bureacracy. A hierarchy. A system of laws to enforce it. These are familiar. No slaves-an improvement.

An astronomer said 'arcanist'. Finally something halfway familiar. Some kind of moon magic?

Everyone is lost, come to the well. Water is life. A legend of a cup that will fix everything. "Drink and live" live and drink.

Gather at the well. Discuss the day. Find company, make something of this world.

QuoteI found an elf, but she does not seem to speak. It will be hard to get answers from that.

In the place they call the Krak, I found some books describing the adventures of someone called Velan Volandis. He appears to be some kind of Elven hero? I must ask the elves of his deeds.

Met another elf, Arenya. Doesn't speak either, but seemed to gesture there were a handful of other elves in town. If half of them don't talk, what can I learn of my heritage?

QuoteIt seems one ought to be careful what they say. Someone was arguing against the Golds over the speaking stones and then they caught a fine for 'unsanctioned broadcast'. Shows what happens when you speak ill of the powerful.

QuoteI must be hallucinating. I thought I saw a Red Wizard. What might he be up to?

No scrolls yesterday despite resting twice. Is it a chance thing?

Update: just got a scroll. I suppose this is working.

Character: Villama Pon Shikar

I took the Street Magician perk at 4, however I did not get new scrolls upon resting after the update, nor did I get scrolls when logging in today.

Bel was great fun, and kudos to our friend the jazzhammer for finding workarounds to the forums.

Funny thing about Delfina and Degurk being potential lovers, he convinced her to help the Forgotten Circle and she got turned into a beaver. The next time she saw him, he had a badger head. Dealbreaker! :P

Delfina was always suspicious of what Dorje might have been scheming.

You can climb with a player tool. I think it could be done for quietly climbing without having to scratch at the wall with your claw.
