Torchbearers,

When the time is most appropriate, I would ask for a word.  There is much to discuss.

Suggestions / Witchhunter Level 8 Bonus
December 03, 2022, 02:39:22 AM
Hello!  While the Magic Disrupter level 8 ability for Witchhunters was a fantastic idea, I feel it should be changed until the item is fixed.  Maybe replace it with some combination of the following options:

- Arcane Defense: Abjuration Feat
- Additional Dissipating Potions (Perhaps some Unique Ones?)
- +1 vs Spells
- A player tool that offers a 1/reset lesser dispel option other than disruptors

This feat on this perk just seems a little out of place, and makes an otherwise pretty cool perk underwhelming.  Many of the other components of this perk are flavorful (but enjoyable), but I think a small buff might be warranted.

Some suggestions:
- SF Taunt
- SF Tumble
- "Fearless" feat
- A further bonus to lore, persuade, appraise
- Toughness
- Weapon Prof: Exotic

I'm sure there are other ways to buff this perk in a thematic way, but I figured a one for one feat replacement might be easiest.  Just something to consider.

Hi all,

I thoroughly enjoy playing EFU; however, I've found that with a limited amount of playing time, having a pretty structured group with known playing times allows me to maximize my engagement with EFU's great content.  As such, I'm flagging for other folks who are in a similar situation the beginning of a Ringrunning group out of the Peerage; notably (though certainly not exclusively)  through House Orza.

If you'd like to participate, feel free to shoot me (dan) a message in IRC.

See you then.

The Society of the Ordered Mind

Founded by Rhiannon Kingsley, Armand Waters, Crueak Silverkin and Malark Ambelcrown in 1366 DR the Society of the Ordered Mind has been relentless in its Crusade to eliminate the Aberrant since inception. The members of the Society were a prominent part of Sanctuary life and politics for many years with Rhiannon Kingsley even serving several terms as a Red Guild Director. Despite their public presence, the Chapterhouse of the Society remained a secretive and closed place. However, it would not take long for the rumors of what occurred within the mysterious Chapterhouse to reveal themselves.

On Mirtul 25, 1385 a cascading of unfortunate events saw the Society's greatest secret revealed to masses of the city. A crystal formation of immense power had been hidden away in the upper most level of the Chapterhouse, and had grown to encompass the entirety of the Chapterhouse.  Having been stolen from under the nose of the Dread Empire several years prior, this Crystal proved to be a powerful weapon against the Aberrant. However, it soon became clear that the Crystal was ill understood; and despite it's power, had the potential to be wildly destructive.

Much of Sanctuary felt betrayed by the Society for keeping such an entity secret for so long.  This sense of betrayal was amplified when the trusted Commander of the Society, Idraen Markem, admonished his Brothers  who took to worshiping the Crystal.  To atone for this rising sense of concern in Sanctuary, Director Rhiannon Kinglsey led a raid on the Dread fortress of Traensyr; an attempt to display the might of the Crystal and her control over it. This ill fated decision ultimately saw her captured and enthralled, largely due to the cunning of a Dread spy who had eluded the enthrallment testing of both the Reformed Order and Society, alike. Distraught, Commander Idraen Markem blamed this failure on the "cultists" of the Crystal, and left Sanctuary in search of his former mentor, Malark Amblecrown...

Civil war soon followed. The Ritualists of the Crystal and the Agents of the Reformed Order engaged in one of the most titanic events in the city's history, leaving the Ritualists and their Crystal destroyed and the Reformed Order the dominant power of Sanctuary. Known as the Crystal War, the effects of this struggle are still felt today.

Amidst the chaos of the Crystal War, the Reformed Order fostered a unique and highly strategic alliance with a necessary evil to secure victory against the Ritualists: The Exile Collective. This alliance brought about a resurgence of the Society of the Ordered Mind, albeit evolved. Under the guidance of the twisted and warped Malark Amblecrown, these Dark Brothers of the Society, or Knights of the New Path, weaponized the Aberrant to horrifyingly effective results.  In the years to follow, the presence of Knights of the New Path brought a continued stream of controversy and conflict to the streets of Sanctuary.

It was not until the rescue of Rhiannon Kingsley did the Society of Old begin to show itself in Sanctuary once again. With the sacrifice of Malark Amblecrown and his Knights, Rhiannon Kingsley lifted Sanctuary from the shadow of the Exile Collective through the burning of their presence in the Public Housing Vaults. And among the ashes, rose the Ordinants to once again take up the sword and spear in the name of the Crusade.

After about half a year, I'm going to retire my PC Byran Ayes.  With my current work life, I just don't have the time to commit to this character, or EFU, for the foreseeable future.  I figure it's better to make room for new PCs than to log in once a week to play for the next few months.

Byran was a character I truly enjoyed playing.  When I first rolled him, I had one real goal: In a world destroyed by aberrations, justify "why" these aberrant monsters (the Knights of the New Path) were in Sanctuary.  If I had more time, I would have had Byran explore more of his goals; most of which surrounded systematically dismantling the leadership of Exile Collective, and rebuilding it solely under the guidance of the Knights of the New Path.

While I don't think I was entirely successful in achieving Byran's goals, it was certainly a fun ride.  Some of his highlights (absent spoilers) included:
•   Exploring and discovering some of the more hidden gems of EFU lore
•   Becoming a Knight of the New Path
•   Becoming the "Warden" of the Vaults
•   Becoming a "Sword of Amblecrown"
•   Earning the Knight PRC
•   Consistently spiting Ormulax and Intryzz (and their PCs)
•   Collecting some truly unique and powerful items
•   Collecting more than a few Rings of Final Sanctuary
•   Fighting a number of iconic NPCs: to include Dread Masters, Swords of Kingsley, and the Pride of Jultar.
•   Using his "code" to commit both very good aligned and evil acts—IE, one day giving up his leg to save some random PC adventurer who never logged in again, simply because he could have been a good "soldier in the crusade."  Another day, hiring assassins and planning murders for those who he felt were distractions.
•   Engaging in a fair amount of behind the scenes scheming against the Spellguard (Thanks to RWG and KOP for helping keep the conflict between the EC and Spellguard alive.)

I need to look through all of my screen shots before posting a few, but I certainly will.

Thanks to all the great PCs, players, and DMs I had the opportunity to interact with.  I'll see you guys again when my schedule frees up.

This suggestion is a pretty simple one: alter the Paladin Oaths to allow Paladins to quest with evil PCs so long as their goal is to redeem the evil PCs or perform an overtly "good" act. I think it would add a lot of RP opportunity to a class that is somewhat strangled by the setting without compromising what a Paladin should be. Obviously, there should be a lot of RP that occurs before this could happen, but that is kind of the value of doing something like this.

The intent is not to offer an "excuse" to allow Paladins to quest with evil PCs on a regular basis, but there are plenty of circumstances that would see a Paladin and evil PCs in the same party. Again, I think the two most obvious circumstances for this to occur are "redemption" and "performing an overtly good act."

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Iestryn Delvar
December 14, 2015, 04:59:49 AM
I really, really had a blast playing Iestryn. To date, he has been my favorite PC.

Iestryn started in Sanctuary as a wide-eyed Uthgardt from the Red Lion tribe. Identified at an early age as being ~different~, he was raised in a Tormite temple until the Darkening. While in Sanctuary, Iestryn had two very simple goals:
  • Be good aligned in Upper Sanctuary at a time where everything, everything, everything was evil, and..
  • Rise in the Watchers, and try and turn them into a good aligned faction
It was a difficult trek, but incredibly rewarding. Along the way, I had the opportunity to interact with some very cool PCs; too many to name here, though I feel a number of screen shots will highlight why these PCs were so cool.

Here are a very, very small selection of screenshots. More to come when I figure out what is spoilerish, and what isn't.

Charisma Barbarians are still fun.

So close, yet so, so far.

But it all works out in the end.

Hi there,

Just reporting a broken transition from inside the Watcher's Barracks into Sanctuary.  Thanks.

QuoteApplication: An application is not needed to join in all cases, but may be helpful. Unusual or unorthodox concepts should be paired with an application. Applications are required to advance in rank.

Recommended Alignment: Non-Chaotic. (exceptions possible)

Recommended Race: Non-Monstrous.

Recommended Class: Non-Druid, Non-Monk, Non-Sorcerer, Non-Wizard. Characters with Light Armor Proficiency, or better mandatory. (exceptions possible regarding classes)

Recommended for new players (entrance is simple, there is room for intrigue and promotion for all players)

In a purely PC driven effort, the Watchers are undergoing a change in structure and function. Recent IC events are forcing the organization to adopt a much more militarized stance than that of law enforcement. While law enforcement will remain one of the core responsibilities the Watchers handle, it is far from the only one. Sanctuary is expanding. With that expansion, they will need an army. The Watchers are that army.

The Watchers are broken into three Branches: The Defensive Branch, The Frontier Branch, and the Investigative Branch.

The Defensive Branch of the Watchers is much more concerned with the military operations of the organization. They are the 'soldiers' of Sanctuary more than the 'police' of Sanctuary. Overseen by a Lieutenant, and the Sergeants underneath his command, the Defensive Branch deals with threats both inside and outside of Sanctuary, acts as the primary military organization of Sanctuary in times of war, and puts the muscle behind many of the cases developed by the Investigative Branch.

The Investigative Branch is the primary law enforcement entity within the Watchers. It is supervised by the Chief Inspector, who oversees various other Inspectors, and their standard Watcher subordinates. While it is the responsibility of all branches of the Watchers to enforce Santuary Law, the Investigative Branch focuses on the development of cases, the gathering of information, the development and running of sources. They are the true 'police' of Sanctuary.

The Frontier Branch of the Watchers acts as the institution's primary scouts. Overseen by the Adjudents, and much like the Investigative Branch, the primary responsibility of the Frontier Branch is to develop intelligence for the Defensive Branch to act upon, with the only difference being that they focus beyond the Shield, while the Investigative Branch focuses within.

New PCs wishing to join the Watchers should, from day one, identify which branch they are interested in! This will ensure that your PC is set up for success ICly to achieve his/her IC goal. While being the Watcher who is the "jack of all trades, master of none" is a viable concept, do not be afraid to specialize from the very begining; I can assure you, we are set up to handle it.  There is no better place to play a soldier, sailor (Greater Sanctuary Navy?!), spy, ex-mercenary, dirty cop, or just your average good guy than the Watchers.

If you have interest in joining the Watchers, please find me in IRC as 'dan', or on the forums as 'Rookie.'

Bug Reports / Issues loading EFU
April 16, 2015, 01:51:15 PM
Hey there,

I just recently reinstalled NWN Diamond from GOG.com, ran the critical rebuild for 1.69, installed the EFU launcher in admin mode, and downloaded all the necessary haks, overrides, etc.  I double checked to ensure they were in the right spots, and they are.

I can create a character, but when I try and enter the server, the game crashes halfway through the loading screen for the starting area.  I'm not sure what the issue is, or if anyone has experienced this before.

I run windows 8.1 off a partitioned mac using bootcamp.  All my drivers are up to date, but I will be double and triple checking that here in a few minutes.  I'm not exactly a computer literate person, so if more information is needed, please let me know.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Veerin Rykov
March 29, 2015, 01:20:55 AM
Veerin was an Ordinant who was a terrible person in his past life.  He went the route of the Society in some means to earn redemption, and found a place there.

My big goal for him was to try and have more of a Society influence in Lower.  He made some buddies, and got a foothold, but never got that official ball rolling.

Overall he was a blast to play.  Playing an Ordinant is my favorite thing to do on this server.  Thanks to everyone I interacted with; you were all awesome.

On a side note, I'm moving and starting a new job next week, and will be needing a break from EFU until I get settled.  Until then, have fun guys!

(I'll sort through some screenies later.)
