General Discussion / Natasha Velstra Tournament

The drop rate when the chapter first started on tinkering materials was (seemed to be) much higher, and having recently made a tinkering themed character I've noticed I haven't seen any drop naturally yet. I've managed to purchase two from other PCs but outside of that I haven't seen any on my recent characters. I haven't had the time to explore the tinkering system very thoroughly, and it's completely possible the system produces its own interesting products without bundles when you've gotten more knowledgeable about the system. But I noticed the low drop rate of bundles of material which seem to be involved in making some of the more interesting items and decided to make the suggestion to increase their occurance.

Suggestions / Chairs/table in Sunpurse Mansion
August 26, 2019, 06:39:52 AM
It'd be nice if the Sunpurse Mansion could get a table(s) and some chairs maybe in the bunkroom area so faction members and their guests can have a place to discuss things sitting down that isn't directly open to the public. Being a traditional house all about dignity it's awkward to have full conversations standing behind locked doors, or sensitive discussions while new players wander in asking the Reeve to tell them about House Sunpurse an arm's length away.

NPC: Icarus Sneech
Location: Ring 99 - Mongrelwoods - Interior

Icarus Sneech, the surgeon NPC in the Mongrelwoods, claims he'll offer a random object from his bag for 250 gold but actually charges 500. I've used the service a few times to test it on some character I didn't care about and the item quality makes me believe it's meant to be 250 gold.

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Saul
June 08, 2019, 08:09:08 AM
Just getting back into Saul after a few days off and clicked the wrong transition. Ended up in the midst of an enemy PC bonanza and true to Saul he would bow to no inferior. Nobody was willing to duel him 1v1 so he refused their demands and got executed for being a bandit

He was a fun PC through until the end. Sad he couldn't do more before biting it but them's the breaks.

He was a big fat dynamo

The transition to enter Smeech's Infirmary in the Mongrelwood near the transition to Pauper Ponds does not work.

For a while I was thinking about playing a cleric of Pzatharun and thought it would be neat to be a changeling cleric. Looking around the animal domain is the only one which offers polymorph self, but it's at a spell level which can take a character's lifetime to reach and requires a relic powerful enough to most likely require an application or DM intervention which can be difficult to come by in some of the sparser timezones. By the time a cleric reaches 9th level generally they're already fairly established and rather than their concept being a changeling cleric for the majority of their character's lifespan they'll have been just another cleric who happens to suddenly become a changeling once they're already extremely powerful. Although there are plenty of other ways to represent affinity for changelings and the controversial nature of Pzatharun's faith without having access to a polymorph ability yourself it'd be nice to have a concrete and reliable way of cementing yourself as a changeling early on rather than suddenly becoming a figure to be hunted very late in the game.

I'm not great at the game mechanically and I don't have a lot of experience with spellcasting classes or how changes to spell lists can effect balancing, but given the isolated and often conflict heavy life of changeling PCs in the new chapter hopefully a change like this might not be overwhelmingly powerful as compared to the Animal Domain from the last chapter. If the animal domain is a NWN default domain and can't be altered maybe adding a Changeling domain would be appropriate with a domain power that somehow reflects Pzatharun's affinity for shapechanging and chaotic fickle nature by transforming the PC for a length of time into a random form.

Suggestions / Butchers Spawnpoint
May 21, 2019, 08:28:23 AM
Krown's Meat and Hooch, the Butcher's faction HQ, doesn't have a spawnpont for members of the faction. It's be convenient to have one, preferrably near the bunks

Antoine succumbed to the Curse of Mortality. Lord Darkskull is tougher than I remember him being.

By now pretty much everyone knows his general concept, but he was a pretty boy who was born to a very rich father who gave him everything he wanted, and after coming to the City he decided he'd find a new  sugar-daddy in Oscar Tchammorar and became Captain Adamantine the Merchant Guild/Adamantine Bank's walking advertisement. It was a wild and fun ride. I'm really glad I came onto the scene right in time for the Ib'javi plot which was amazing for the character.

Eventually he cursed at a Feast event to never be able to respawn or be resurrected again and also to have a strong brotherly love for Errilam. The boots he got were so nice, and the event so fun, I decided to roll again at the next Feast and this time got cursed with partial amnesia, permanent wisdom drain, a hatred of Ticker Square, and the loss of all his belongings. Practically naked, no idea who any of his friends were, and seething with hate for Ticker Square's mistreatment and underpayment of him he went to the Peerage where he eventually ran into Ser Errilam Winespill who he had immediate and strong friendship with and agreed to become his squire to learn to be less of a pathetic dweeb.

I was really looking forward to seeing how the new viciously anti-Ticker Captain Adamantine would be. The complete dropping of the character Antoine had been portraying to reveal a dimmer version of the petty selfish child that Antoine was underneath it all was an exciting breath of fresh air for the character for the very brief time it lasted. Unfortunately Lord Darkskull is a tougher boss than I remembered and Antoine was struck down after chewing through all his newly purchased healing potions, and some bad luck with rolls and teammates getting knocked out of the fight.

I can't think of a lot more to say right now I'm tired after getting off work, but I'll throw screenshots up eventually. It was really cool having a character with his own action figure and I really appreciate all the DMs who'd occasionally possess random commoners to yell about how cool he was, especially that last one where Antoine broke that little boy's heart.

Edit: I just remembered Antoine had this plan to join Orza that never panned out that was one of my favorite publicity stunts/scams he wanted to try so I wanted to mention it.

So he was going to arrange to duel Magnus through Dekker and try to get everyone in Ticker Square to sponsor him with money and potions, and have it planned out ahead of the that when Magnus won he'd threaten to kill Innocents if Antoine didn't join him or something equally cliche.

So Antoine would throw the fight without drinking any of the good potions or spending any of the money and basically skip town to the Peerage with Orza and be Dekker's left hand man in return for help supernaturally overcoming his lack of fighting talent.

But Dekker died before I could try to arrange any of it and Antoine didn't trust Magnus on his own not to just murder him and take his stuff.

The "black dragon" quest is a level 1-4 quest near Ring 100 in Ring 99. In the first month of the new chapter it was killing a lot of new players and was changed to require 2 players to enter. Months later the quest is very rarely done as players now have a hang of the game and getting past level 4 is usually accomplished within hours of character creation, making the odds of finding a suitably levelled group very slim. Now that the flow of new players to the server has slowed down considerably I think the quest should return to it's former party requirement.

If necessary the quest could be moved away from being on a direct path from the start area to Ticker Square to keep new players from encountering it automatically, but I don't think this will be a great issue any longer. The quest is cool and almost impossible to do these days and I'd like to be able to do it again.

Location: Earth Seam - The Grand Fissure

Compared to the current difficulty of most level 2-5 quests on the server this one is very high, and offers low reward in both experience and loot. It's also in a randomly spawning seam making it more rare of a find than other level 2-5 quests on the server which offer more substantial reward to lower level players.

I only managed to get 3 hours of sleep before work, but it was totally worth it. Here's a video from my perspective. Apologies in advance for my poor camera angles, and for missing most of the big final fight. I also made the mistake of not getting any video of my loot on Abed Tarazi before he died, and I expected I might perma-death on this event so there's some shots of my character's items mixed into the action that I didn't want to have to edit out.

Very fun event.

MORT'S MISSING CHILDREN EVENT VIDEO

Edit: Sorry that the video is so jittery, as always, and the text quality seems to be blurry and impossible to read here on my work PC though it wasn't at home. Hopefully it isn't the same for all of you. I really need to figure out how to fix that.

In my opinion having gone through it only twice the seam explorable Mr Froaghe's Stairway's reward is low for the difficulty of the explorable.

It's possible I'm missing secrets involved due to the confusing layout of the area, or that the dead transition encountered on one of the returning staircases (reported as a bug just in case) is intended to lead to more rewards. But in my experience it's one of the more challenging/deadly explorables and my groups have left both times expending some major supplies without scripted exp gain or loot to split.

Last Run's Reward From Placeables:
Chilled Gem
Malachite
Notched Short Sword
Salutiary Tonic
Potion of PfE
Helmet (Good Stats Won't Spoil)

Hopefully this sounds more like a suggestion than whining. It's a fun explorable with a cool concept that's a challenge for higher end parties I just think it could use more useful items for splitting among a successful group.

Killed the boss and scoured the entire end of quest room thoroughly trying to get the completion event to trigger but it never went off for us. Couldn't turn in the quest.

ABED TARAZI
THE GOLDEN BASTARD OF HOUSE GLITT

Nobody ever asked him why his name was still the Golden Bastard after he traded in his golden armor for Glitt fullplate. Not one of you. I had a good snarky reply to it too and you all let me down.

I wasn't hoping to die today, but sometimes when you roll the dice you end up a heal potion late and a dollar short. It was a wild and really enjoyable ride. Abed was my first character in CoR, and was thought of as an excuse to play with my good friend BTH in the faction he liked the most. In the end I'm very glad BTH pulled me into Glitt, everyone loves an underdog story and it was really enjoyable molding the image of the faction into the loud frat house that it is (BTH gets more credit there than I do). A big thank you to all the members of Glitt who came and went during my time there. I wasn't hoping to die today, but sometimes when you roll the dice you end up a heal potion late and a dollar short.

STATS:

BACKGROUND/CONCEPT:
A lot of people were surprised Abed was lawful because of his foul mouth, drinking, love of violence, and undiplomatic attitude. To keep it short I liked the idea of being able to play an amnesiac character without it being a cheap anime cliche for once with the new setting's reliance on it. Abed was a soldier's bastard had onto a camp follower, when the war ended and the woman returned to her border town with her son the town was pillaged by former warriors turned bandits. Abed was taken as a toddler into the marauding gang and raised as child slave-soldier into a vicious merciless bandit who's life of horrors at the hands of monsters had turned him into a monster himself. Waking up in the City of Rings and stripped of all but hazy glimpses of his history Abed was horrified and appalled at the person he had been in his life before. Having been branded as a bandit in the nation of Calimshan Abed assumed every person he interacted with could see him for the monster he was on sight, and desperately seeking to turn away from banditry to an honest life he signed on with the only honest employer he thought would take in such a monster as him: Lord Bernard Glitt. With a muscle-memory love of violence, and a hard jaded shell of a personality that kept him alive in a more vicious life, Abed teetered constantly on the edge of suicide with his only lifeline being the honorable and honest life afforded to him by working for Lord Bernard Glitt. Recklessly loyal to his Lord and House, and with a very black and white sense of morality, Abed entered into the City of Rings to accomplish his one and only goal: Redeem himself.

DEATHS:
I died a lot. I always thought I must be creeping up on the top number of deaths for a character but I never breached the top 5. I'm not very good at this game.

VIDEOS:
EE won't let me take screenshots, but OBS does let me take some really poor quality videos. Unfortunately because of the lack of screenshots I don't have any loot picks to share, but here are Abed's finest fights. Anyone who's flipped through my youtube channel has seen them all, it's pretty much just an archive of Abed and some bridge duels, but here they were with some description or context.

TRIVIA NIGHT

A joint idea between BTH and myself for what Glitt's contribution to the King's Tournament should be, and supported by Gip[DM]. The idea was to have a pig stuffed full of magic ointments and oils and covered in grease, and a free-for-all brawl for the grand prize. The pig would run around spraying grease spells everywhere and causing chaos, and if someone managed to get the last hit on the pig they'd gain all the enchantments from it's magic blood and get a huge advantage. And of course like every GLITT tradition Trivia Night had a three drink minimum.

THE BOOT

The original concept of THE BOOT came from when Hound's character Harvis Cross and the other Stonebuilders that would eventually go on to become Butchers ambushed Abed while he was buying potions in Ticker Square. After one of the Stonebuilders cut in line in front of Abed, and Abed wouldn't let it go, he was soundly beaten and tossed into "The Cage" and made to break rocks for freedom. Abed was very easy to forgive being assaulted by anyone as he viewed fighting as just boys-being-boys, but he couldn't forgive the embarrassment and he resolved to get revenge by embarrassing Cross in return by capturing him and making him drink beer from Gortha the Invincible's stinky old boot. Having been unsuccessful in catching Cross a trial run of The Boot was done when he and Jandar fell ass backwards into catching the necromancers' accomplice Mazeed al-Rarimann after their attack on the Ponds. After being forced to drink from THE BOOT the man was declared innocent by all because that's punishment enough.

SEWER TOURNAMENT

I didn't really need any particular piece of loot for Abed's build, but I really hate having to haul around and keeping track of thousands of cure minor wounds trinkets on every character just to heal 5 or 10 damage outside of combat. It's one of my least favorite parts about the game and I try to get regeneration on any character that I can, which is one of the few reasons I've always been so fond of playing RSD fighters in the past. So when the fights were being picked I jumped at the opportunity. Even though we'd seen like 3 fights before this one I forgot which direction the monsters spawned from, and was facing completely the wrong way and didn't see the enemy until it was right next to me. I got my ass kicked for most of the fight and got lucky with a stabilization roll to come back and win the day. Although the cloak wasn't the most powerful piece of loot in history it came in real handy when hunting rats when I died down to five again and again.

TIL DEATH DUEL US PART

I stole the name from Vlaid who scolded me badly for not using it as the original title. I won't go into great detail about the events surrounding the fight as most parties involved (sans me) are still alive, but even before the fight began DrD insisted that I get a recording to post so this goes up with his blessing. A great fight all around, and I was really convinced I was going to win there for a bit, but I always get the PvP jitters bad and between nerves, my poor skills, bad luck, and Errilam's masterful combat skillz Abed was finally slain. And as per his wishes,  he was kicked headless into the Peerage Canal with the rest of the garbage. EDIT: Replaced with Gloinar's video for quality purposes.

THUS ENDS ABED TARAZI
GLITT GLITT GLITT!

Edit: Loot picks. If I find more I'll post them.
