General Discussion / Taking an extended break.
August 07, 2019, 01:38:38 AM
First off I know many in this community may not know me very well but I've been playing on the server since the middle of February this year. I've played a small slew of 'off side-characters' and three characters that I would call my main ones.  I enjoyed the early days on the server as Dagna Alestorm a dwarven lass who's just there to kick ass and protect her friends. To Stannis Ironblood a man searching to prove himself to become an arbiter and Drake Gaslon a man who was tossed around the peerage houses like a ball.

I had a lot of fuck ups and both of my 'main characters' deaths were on me and 100% awesome regardless. This server has SO much to offer and I feel like the past two months I've done my current character Drake a dis-service by not being able to dedicate time to EFU like I had with both Dagna and Stannis.  This server is really amazing. When a friend of mine recommended it to me, at the time they were involved with a lot of other storylines and I knew that it was likely we'd not get to play with each other and still I had a blast!!

The people in this community are top notch.  I've made new friends here. Found small sections of the server to carve a path of adventures together and the way story lines change how our characters interacted was amazing to me.

Every server has flaws but if I'm honest for me personally there weren't that many worth mentioning. Because in the end whatever grievance I may've had came down to character choices, which is an IC thing to be handled IC  or an EE which can't really be prevented.

Ultimately, I've not had the chance to pour myself into Drake currently. With life interrupting my play time this summer and holiday season just around the corner I thought it I should formally announce a break. I'm not gone forever and though this may've read like a 'goodbye/breakup note' I wanted to make it clear that nothing that the server, staff or players have done are influencing this choice. It's solely a choice because I feel I can't play as much as I want and that my time OOCly has to be spent elsewhere.

So the TLDR; Server's great. Life sucks sometimes. GTG will be back.

I've done the quest multiple times now with no issue. However just today a group and I. Could not get the last encounter to spawn. We ran all over,  tried transitioning out and in but to no avail.  We killed everything in there and waited around for about ten or so mins.

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Stannis Ironblood

So the Story of Stannis Ironblood comes to an end. He lived longer than my last character and he was certainly an interesting play. From the second day of creation he became an Acolyte of the 100 Scrolls. He had no idea what they were but he saw the Arbiters as a means to bring order to 99. He made plenty of friends along the way and most of them have died or forgotten about him thanks to a certain feast. He turned out much colder than I intended but that's the glory of character development. In the end he became prideful and eager to prove himself. He never did make it in as a full fledged arbiter. He struggled with it often and as he began to get desperate to prove himself, he was done in. The risk one takes when wanting to be the best. Below are the handful of Screenshots that I gathered while playing him.

This was a picture of him attending his second tournament. He didn't partake in it cause he didn't have 'potions' which he easily realized was what someone needed to be good.

Here's a screenshot of him, Alexandra,  Cedric – Who all became friends of his. As well as Rhonda and Dare.  They took on a Troll for a Dwarven lass wanting to avenge her brother not to mention the Army she had at her disposal. At the time he was unaware of the whole 'changelings' thing. He was promptly educated after this and would not step into the ponds again.

Here was the item I obtained from that quest!

Here's a snapshot of the aftermath of Adrian Winespill vs Hafit? I think it was Hafit yeah. It got insane after big fight was breaking out. This stuff sort of enforced the idea that there wasn't really any 'lawmen' out in this crazy 99.
[hide][/hide]

Here's my character sitting in for the Raksasha vote. Writing down all those who verbally voted yes. A good showing of a lot of characters. Most not around anymore!
[hide][/hide]

Here's a shot of Joscelin and Stannis as they went down into the depths of the Crypts to face a horrible evil! A lichling! They vanquished it together but I didn't get a screenie of that.
[hide][/hide]

A small unknown by most fact. Stannis had a loyal hound Karn. Karn was a good boy. He lives mostly in Ninety Seven. Stannis would visit frequently to feed him. Stannis NEVER brought him to Ninety Nine cause he knew he'd likely parish. Hopefully Karn finds a good home now that Stannis is dead.

Lastly not story or plot related and might be a tad spoilerish as it pertains to a certain puzzle quest. But this was as far as I got. I could not bring myself to go anymore. It would take too much time.

All in all. I really enjoyed Stannis. He had ups and down. I had a few RL things come up that caused me to have to sit out a few times, for a few days but all in all it was fun. The character changed so much. The pressures of wanting to be an Arbiter, the Chaos of the Rings and the despair of lost friends dragged him into his roots. Into the man he was BEFORE coming here. So it was quite the journey. Thanks to everyone who tolerated him and rp'd with me. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, for me. I mostly lose.

These two particular armor types are missing from the  starting area. I'm not sure if it's been brought up before or not but while I know 'mechanically' it's not the strongest armor type it would be nice to be able to start with something that potentially fits someone's dex modifer.

I scrolled back for a few pages up to like ten. So if this topic steps on the toes of something further back just merge it.  It's a simple idea I was just curious what  actors folks would have cast for their characters. The character could be alive or dead. Same with the actor as well. Because we can't all be immortal.

For Dagna Alestorm, the choice is easy. I'd pick Joan Rivers.

She's got the voice, the humor and the general feel just as a person. So it wouldn't take much acting range for her to pull it off. She'd have to be uglyed up some though. Cause Dagna was not the prettiest lady around.

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Dagna Alestorm

Dagna wasn't my first character on the server but she was the first one I put effort and time into.  I didn't know anything about the server when I made her. I just had a basic idea of a former Dragon Hunter that enjoyed drinking ale.  I met so many folks on her and made a lot of strong bonds with other characters. Unfortunately I've nothing from her short days in Driftwood. Nor the day to day intereactions with some of the various friends of hers. I wish I had more screenshots but this is what I've got.

This was the first awesome weapon I got on the server. A stone mallet but it lasted me for nearly a month. I got it only my second day on the server. It was traded to me for some what if's by a large rock gnome. I think his name as Baravon? Or something like that.

This was the first time I met Argus. The second dwarven friend she'd make. He was drunk at the time and was amazed to see a woman dwarf. Ontop of this she's wearing armor that was sold to her at a cheap price by Beodda. There's a bit of the drunk conversation of Argus and her.
[hide][/hide]
I don't have a direct picture but Frank was the one who converted Dagna to the faith of the Gateway. She became a loyal follower and began traveling around with him quite a lot. Due to this they were able to get into some crazy adventures together. This is where I got my first DM Custom peice of gear! It was perfect for her character.
[hide][/hide]
This is from the last day together with her friend Volantis, Frank, Hanna, Valindra, Teniulle, Grimgor, Shalkis and Alfrida.  They're not all in the shot but there's a bit of dialog as Frank got paralyzed.
[hide][/hide]

Her time was shorter than I liked but I had to play the character true to her colors. She died fighting and she died doing something she believed was right. I didn't expect an ugly, groaty voiced, socially inept dwarf to make as many friends as she did. Perhaps because she didn't involve herself in politics much nor really care about any of the 'big' changes within ninety nine she was able to just see folks for who they were and 'judge' based on that.  I enjoyed my time with the Driftwood Company and the Blooded Shields alike.  She's my first REAL character on the server and I can't bare to delete at the moment but as it is I look forward to my next major character on the server.

I just hit ranger level 6 on my character Bianca Bradford only to find out that  while I get the +1 Dmg Vs Elves and +1 dmg vs orcs. Not receiving the +1 AB to orcs or elves. On top of that I do not get the +1 ab and dmg vs humans that both the Favored enemies provided.  I was meaning to talk to a DM about it. See if it's an easy fix or if it was intended. If it's a fix coming down the road I'll keep the FE's as I have them. If not  I hope that I can at least switch them out. Thank you.

Off-topic Discussion / Out of Context Dialog
March 31, 2019, 12:20:44 PM
Just figured I'd start something up. It's sometimes fun to take a break from the seriousness of it all and look at some words spoken by characters, npcs and the like and see how funny they are without the context. Like this one for instance.

Bug Reports / Web Wall Bugs - Earth Seam
March 31, 2019, 09:55:17 AM
Within some of the quests there. There's these walls of web that you're unable to 'reach' with melee weaponry.  Once engaging in attacking them it always positions you in a spot you can't get to them. Generally, we've had to use items/can-trips or something to try and get them down. Thanks.
